[cayugabirds-l] Elm Beach Road, Town of Romulus
- First 2015 group of Mallard ducklings this morning - seven. - On Sunday we noted a family of Canada Geese - eight goslings. This is definitely a first in our so-far fifteen years on Elm Beach. The number of offspring is, I believe, accurate, though the parents are so cautious that they take the goslings far offshore when a human is spotted, and circle diligently to keep them in safe territory. - There were TWO pairs of adult Canadas during the past couple of weeks, so perhaps/hopefully there will be a second family on the lake soon. - Not birds, but winged creatures: there has been a group of 3-11 Tiger Swallowtail butterflies 'puddling' in a damp depression along the road for the past few days. -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
[cayugabirds-l] RFI: nesting kingfisher???
Hi Cayugabirders, Anyone out there have any leads on the whereabouts of nesting Belted Kingfishers locally? I've been seeing them carrying fish from the lake inland along Salmon Creek while I've been at Salt Pt recently, but no idea where a nest might be. Thanks for any information. [cayugabirds-l] Worm-eating Warbler at Sapsucker Woods
Nick Mason found a nice Worm-eating Warbler at Sapsucker Woods this morning -- it was foraging low near the Sherwood Platform on Wilson Trail North. I wonder how often rare warblers (Yellow-throated, Worm-eating etc) end up in the Finger Lakes this time of year... -- Benjamin Freeman Ph.D. candidate Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Cornell University Ithaca, NY, USA benjamingfreeman.com -- Cayugabirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/CayugabirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/cayugabirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/Cayugabirds 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/CAYU.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --

[cayugabirds-l] Hooded Warbler
West of Lansing Station Rd. , Lansing, In wooded area by creek just south of #457. Heard clearly finally got a couple good, quick looks at the male bird. It was funny, a Gray Catbird was nearby imitating the Hooded Warbler, altho it wasn't the best imitation! Several American Redstarts all along the road, including an immature male singing in woods near the steep bare bank across another creek from dark brown house at #508 on east side of road. [cayugabirds-l] Grey-cheeked thrush singing in my yard woods
This is the second time in last five years that I have had a singing Grey-cheeked Thrush in my yard. I came out of the house to get into my car, when it sang for a few seconds. I ran back inside to get my recorder when it stopped singing. Like last year if it stays overnight I may hear it tomorrow. But it may leave before I get chance to ehar to it as I am not going to be in today evening. It was very birdy in the morning around 6.00 am. House Wren, Robin, Chickadee, Red-bellied , Tufted Titmice, Catbird, Chipping Sparrow and Tree swallow were singing all simultaneously! No sign of Cardinal these days. May be busy feeding his young. There are four Great Egrets at the Knox Marcellus marsh. Still some shirebirds though they are very far off and small. The glossy Ibis is still there.
