Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Cisco: Provide a reasonable transition path from CCIE Voice to CCIE Collaboration

2013-06-05 Thread Michael Miller
This post was made on the Learning @ Cisco Facebook page:

To all of our CCIE Voice professionals. Here is a statement from Fred
Weiller, Director of Marketing at Learning@Cisco:
We are listening to the feedback from our valued CCIE community, and will
be adjusting the CCIE Collaboration requirements. As a quick preview of the
evolution of the CCIE Collaboration certification, a current holder of the
CCIE Voice designation will now be able to migrate to a CCIE Collaboration
credential by taking the CCIE Collaboration written exam only. We
appreciate all of the great feedback and patience of the community while we
update our webpages to reflect this change. We will be communicating
further details about this modification as soon as possible.
It seems the request for a migration path via written exam will be the way
forward.

Thanks,

Mike

First, let me touch on the most important point you have brought up:

Honestly, it's really great to see how everyone came together, spoke
loudly, and made a difference. Even if the decision isn't reversed, the
past few days really demonstrated how dedicated and passionate everyone is
to their field and hard-earned certifications.

Absolutely outstanding! Everyone has done a great job of keeping this
topic on Cisco's radar. Keep it up!

Second, I am at the PBT in SJC. Rowan mentioned the CCIE but it was just
an acknowledgement that our message has been received. The right thing
comment was actually made by another person (name escapes me). Rowan may
have echoed the sentiment but no guarantees/promises were made. This isn't
bad news. All feedback we have received thus far has been a positive trend
in the right direction. Even if it has been incremental.

So, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Cisco will want to close
this down as fast as possible. Whatever the answer is, we can all be
satisfied that we refused to roll over on this. Again, the volume of
support within the community is quite impressive. Don't back off the
throttle now. Keep pushing, stay on message, and (as always) be polite.

I'm sure many of you are already aware of this news, but one of the heads
of Collaboration @ Cisco (I believe Rowan) has made a brief statement today

the Cisco UC Master program confirmed CCIE Voice will be grandfathered into
the CCIE Collab track. I don't believe this is confirmed so please don't
hold me to it, but feel free to visit the threads for updated information.

Lastly, a community moderator confirmed that Cisco is reviewing all the

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] CME customer Background issue

2012-03-19 Thread Michael Miller
Chase,

Based on your config, the TFTP commands serve up the file, but it appears
in the root directory of the TFTP server (tftp://List.xml). Try using the
alias keyword to serve the file to include the path.

I believe the syntax is something like:

tftp-server flash:/Desktops/320x212x16/List.xml alias
Desktops/320x212x16/List.xml

Chris,

I too failed my first CCIE lab (R/S) attempt. I know it can be hard to get
back in the swing of things, but perhaps after a few days of well earned
rest, you'll have a new perspective on things.

Thanks,

Mike

Well guys, I took my first lab attempt on Tuesday and got my results, I
failed. Looking at my score report it was extremely close, which is both
encouraging and disheartening. Some things I would like to share from my
 experience:

 1. The VM lab PC you have to work with and the SSH client is really poor.
I found I had to click on the screen to get it to update, I lost a good few
minutes figuring out why my screen wasn't updating.
 2. Be very careful if it tells you to leave something open for the Proctor
to grade. I had a section working and confident of my answer but I
remember closing a window toward the end of the day, not realizing this
 until back at the hotel.
 3. Double check every IP you enter, I lost some precious time by putting
the wrong IP in one section. You don't want to add additional
troubleshooting. Double check, it is worth it.
 4. Try to verify every section, and don't take anything for granted.
There was one section I did and was so sure of my work that I didn't go
back and read the question and re-verify, this was a huge mistake.

Overall I am trying to stay positive, failure is hard, but next time I
will be more prepared for the environment and gained some knowledge on what
to watch and lookout for. Going to take a break over the holidays and hit
 it again next month.

 Hope this helps someone.

 · Stay away from GNS3, you will end up troubleshooting GNS3
instead of troubleshooting real voice issues.

 · You will need a server with at least 16GB ram; don’t forget
that you have to have 5 virtual servers. You don’t need FXO for the
current version. I agree with Emanuel, I would get four 2800 series
routers, you would need to have PVDMS, T1 and E1 cards, CUE module, switch
module, a layer 3 switch, and at least 6 type B phones. You can get it
a little bit cheaper from ebay, or closely follow this group study treads
and time to time people sell their equipment all at once maybe you can
bargain and get it really cheap.

 · If you haven’t seen the CCIE blue print yet. I suggest you
check the following link. You will have a good idea what you will need
 after you checked the blueprint.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] WAN qos question

2011-12-05 Thread Michael Miller
1.) I thought IOS would refuse attaching a class to a dlci without frts on
the physical interface.

In my experience, it is possible to enable FRTS on a PVC, but you may
receive a warning message. If I remember correctly, the message simply
states that FRTS commands are required on the physical interface. I
wouldn't be surprised if the behavior differs between versions of IOS
and MQC vs. legacy FTS, though.

Thanks,

Michael

I ran auto qos on the hq side, changed values as needed and pasted the
modified policy in the hq router.
I then took the same policy and pasted it into the SB router config and
 bound it to the dlci.
All seemed to be ok until I tried to get phones registered.
I could get a dhcp address but never register.

I knew something with the WAN qos was screwed up.
I've done it to myself in practice and in the real lab.

It turns out that I didn't have frts on the physical interface.
Once I put it on, everything started working.

 My questions are:

1.) I thought IOS would refuse attaching a class to a dlci without frts on
 the physical interface.
2.) Without frts configured on the physical interface, wouldn't the class
assignment on the dlci (384k) effectively be ignored?

I know what the config problem was, but I understand what it was actually
causing to happen at the Pvc level.

An instructor of mine said that once upon a time it was possible to swap

If you pass the exam, it will say PASS in the block that he indicated was

your lab hasn't been scored! This isn't good, as it has been over two days.
In this case, I highly suggest you contact certification support so that
they can check on the status of your exam. By the way, you still receive a
score report if you pass the exam.. It just isn't too informative! ;)
