[OSL | CCIE_Voice] ProctorLab Phones 7960/7962
Q. Do all the PL voice racks actually have 7962 phones connected to the sw ports ?. I have been using the racks for some and know about the various 'mis-configs' inserted for troubleshooting - but when you apply the same phone config for 7960 phones ports and these phones appear in sh cdp and the 7962 don't - it makes you wonder if the 7962 phone is actually connected. Normally I have my hardware phones on via a remote vpn link , but on this session i don't and and trying to use pview. How do you do the OWLE Labs using + dialling when you only see 7960 phones on the PL racks ? Unfortunately this is not the first time I have come across missing 7962 and have also heard this mentioned by some attendees on a recent IP expert bootcamp. So what do you do to verify whether the rack has 7962's ? I guess IPEx/PL don't guarentee every rack has 7962 phones as when on a bootcamp they had to tweak the configs [using ILMED ?] to ensure the the candidates actually had the 7962 phones on their PODS they could do the labs. I have emailed the support team to verify but they have not/do not reply. Seems i'm screwed on this session. Any opinions ? .Sanjay___ For more information regarding industry leading CCIE Lab training, please visit www.ipexpert.com Are you a CCNP or CCIE and looking for a job? Hello Krishna Kevin I made a typo when i wrote the email [paramspace english location flash:bacdprompts --- on Viks Vol1 walkthrough Missed the / !!] I loaded the final configs for lab 9a and of course it worked. I saved and reopened the notepad txt file into notepad ++ and indeed it shows extra spaces on some lines I edited all the spaces at the start of the lines but not sure I checked each line at the end before the config paste into the router !! .. [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Vol1 Lab 5c q5.2 [VPod 12] cannot call from BR2 to UCM phones 4 digit dialing
Hello, Long time returnee to IP Expert/PL Labbing [ last time was in Lab v2 era]. My Setup: using PL over VPN using 5 7962 connect via local PoE 3550 switch and 2811 ISR using router config as per PL document. More of a general question Vol1 Lab 5c q5.2 [VPod 12]: Had started Lab 5c on a previous session and had VPod11. Could not complete all 5c - its very long first time around so had returned to complete 5.8 onwards and this time had VPod12 Previously when I had VPod11, on q5.2 I could successfully call from BR2 sccp and sip phones to the UCM BR1 and HQ phones and vice versa using 4 digit dialling. On VPod 12 , after sucessfully configuring the SIP trunk and HQ Xcoder , I could not call from both BR2 phones to the UCM, but could call from UCM phones to BR2. I checked my config via the solution guide and also the Vol1 walkthrough but could not spot the problem. The debug voip dialpeer showed i was hitting the correct outbound voip DP and in debug ccsip messages i could see *SIP/2.0 503 Service Unavailable* . [ I do not have the debug output or configs to post as i did not have logging on my terminal sessions switched on] As it was getting late in the day, I reverted the rack and loaded the 5c final solution to verify that I had a config fault that i had not spotted so that i could return to this another day - only problem was that I still had the same problem in that I could not call from BR2 phones to the UCM using the 5c final solution. I also noticed that the Xcoder config was missing on HQ in the final solution . My question is are the final configs totally working solutions so you can verify your work ? - had anyone come across this problem using Vpod 12 [ i have gone thro the OSL and found on Feb 2010 archive [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Lab 5c - Calls from BR2 CME SCCP / SIP to UCM HQ / BR1 SCCP Fails ] .. Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] SIP phone registration when using PLabs hardware only
Hi Brian, Thanks for the quick reply. I have seen the Proctor guide appendix A-B and indeed upgraded one of my 7960's to SIP firmware which was on the UCME router, but the 7961 SIP firmware is not. [ only saw 7960/62 SIP I think]. I suppose the question could be rephrased can I load the 7961 SIP firmware on the BR2 flash router myself and leave it there for future lab exercises - it would a be pain to load and remove it for each session. [I'm assuming here that for a SIP phone to register properly that the SIP firmware ALWAYS needs to be on the flash with the phone SIP firmware downloaded and embeded on the phone.] I have sent supp...@ipexpert.com asking a similar question last week and am just awaiting a reply [ I think today is a holiday in the USA] IPexpert labs need type 2 phones and I have seen a lot of people looking for SIP files on the forum because it does not come natively with the CME software. I see lots of people have then downloaded from cisco via CCO but I suspect that they are using their own hardware and not purely PL like me . Since I now have type 2 phones [have 7975 aswell registered to CUCM - no problem here as callmangler comes with all the SCCP and SIP loads], it would be good if PL just had the firmware on the flash. Has anyone else registered non 7960/62 SIP phones to PL labs where PL do not supply the SIP firmware ? if so how did you do it ? .. Look in your My ebooks section under: CCIE Voice Workbook v6.0 Volume 1 (CCIE v3 Blueprint) (by section) CCIE Voice: BLS Volume 1, Proctor Guide Appendix A-B - Updated Apr 27, 2009 This Appendix A-B guides you nicely through the process. As far as firmware, if a lab you are working on expects a certain firmware, it should be on the flash of that router. If not, use the web-based support once you are signed into proctorlabs. Someone should be able to assist you. Brian On Mon, Sep 7, 2009 at 8:52 AM, Sanjay Psp1...@yahoo.co.uk wrote: Hi Chaps, I'm using the PL labs setup exclusively to do the IPExpert voice v3 books via a hardware VPN connection . I've noticed in the workbooks that in the prerequisites at the beginning of the chapters e.g 3A that a 7961 is preferred for SIP. In a session a few days ago [pod 21], I noticed that there is no SIP firmware loaded/provided on the BR2 UCME router except for the 7940/60 and 7942/62. Question: how do i register my 7961 [already upgraded with the correct v8.x loader SIP by registering the phone to the callmanager] when there is no SIP firmware provided for the 7961 on the UCME. Options a) upload the 7961 SIP files on the router myself -[ does PL really want users loading firmware on to the flash (also any SIP phone software licence issue ?) ] b) must use a 7962 instead for the PLabs only route [ which i don't have ] ? c) I have 7960's but they don't support all the SIP functions. d) I tried registering the 7961 SIP phone from callmanager to the UCME direct but it failed to register in the end ... presumably I still had the load SIP41.8-5-2S under voice register global which points to other sip files needed for the phone loaded on the flash which currently are not there .also i had no tftp-server files pointing to the 7961 SIP files I've seen the Cisco/IPexpert documentation for SIP phone setup which seems straight forward if the all the firmware files are loaded onto the flash - thats no problem. Any pointers in the right direction would help - I'm sure i have missed something really obvious. warmest regards Sanjay ___ For more information regarding industry leading CCIE Lab training, please visit www.ipexpert.com ___ For more information regarding industry leading CCIE Lab training, please visit www.ipexpert.com

Vik, Mark re Volume 3 lab 2 SRST config PDF file page 203-205 The BR1 SRST config seems to be missing voice translation-profile 4DigitFallBack in the PDF for 4 digit dial to HQ when the WAN is down. Looking at the updated configs [Voice_Volume3_Configs - Lab 2 BR1-RTR.txt] its missing from there aswell. So how does the 4 digit dial to HQ work in SRST mode ? Presumably the dialled digits match dial-peer 101 and should get translated to 10 digits [using voice translation-profile 4DigitFallBack] for a LD call to HQ. i.e 1003 -- 12122241003.
