Interest in Prime manuals?

2017-08-31 Thread Ethan Dicks via cctalk
Hi, All,

Been helping a friend clean out his garage and we ran across a cubic
foot of Prime manuals, mostly software and applications, probably from
the early to mid 1980s (I did not see clear indication on casual
inspection). These have been unfortunately stored in a place that has
gotten damp so they are *not* pristine. The couple I looked through
were not so bad the pages were glued together, but there's a definite
smell of must and mold.

I leafed through the prime directory on bitsavers and did not
recognize any titles. Is there another repository of Prime docs I can
check to see if these have already been scanned? Is anyone so
interested in Prime docs they want to pay shipping (or take possession
at VCFmw) for slightly-damaged manuals?

If I don't hear a clear and resounding affirmative, the owner will
toss these very soon, as in tomorrow or the end of the weekend at the
latest.

Don't have contacts with John Keys and no word on him but I and the few others
I have contact with here in Houston are okay as far as I've been able to find
out so far. Flooding stopped literally right across the street from us.

More Stuff for VCFMW

2017-08-31 Thread Marvin Johnston via cctalk
I just found out I can't fit a whole house of stuff in my van :). So
I'll be posting some larger/heavier stuff that I may or may not bring
depending on if this stuff is something I'd have to bring back. So:

$25 each - Four imac G4 computers, working w/keyboard/mouse,

$35 each - Two imac G5 computers, working w/keyboard/mouse (marginal
vintage)

$50 each - 5+ LD-V1000 laserdisk players, not working but circa 1980's
used on some Cinematronics laserdisk games (earliest is Space Ace.)
These are all unused, but unlikely to be working. They all have a Z80
controller inside.

$1500 - Cromemco System 3 with hard drive/Cromemco monitor and a LOT of
original manuals/software (guessing maybe couple hundred+.) It worked
when I first got it 20 - 30 years ago from a Cromemco dealer. I don't
remember seeing a keyboard, but it might be there.

$600 ??? - PDP-11/05, (12" high?), rough condition, no documentation

$1000 - Two TRS-80 model 6000 with lots of 8" disks (100+.) No idea if
they are working. I *think* one is missing the keyboard. Runs Xenix and
some of the original system disks are included.

$300 - Next slabs with keyboard, soundbox, and cable. I used them years
ago to record and playback when I was practicing the piano :). But no
idea if they are working or not at this point.

$100 each - two Dual 8" Floppy Drive rack mount unit. Untested but came
out of a data center years ago and never checked out.

$

Basically, I'm downsizing so I have room to work on the Polymorphic and
Lobo Drives (and other computers/peripherals) that were built in the
Santa Barbara area.

Let me know if you are interested. I'll be leaving either next Tuesday
or Wednesday (early) for the trip back east.

Thanks!

Marvin, KE6HTS

Re: Off Topic Any customs brokers on the list?

2017-08-31 Thread william degnan via cctalk
Paul,
I used my business incorporation (EIN) to get items through from Canada to
the USA by car, through customs I contacted the FedEx Trade Network and
purchased a single transaction bond premium from them. I declared the
computer items as "display exhibit props" avoiding computers so as not to
confuse vintage computers with working current production computers. They
created a AWB / BL Number for me to use to get through customs, etc. It's
kind of a pain so get all this in advance if you're trucking anything
through from Canada into the USA. Easier to get the items into Canada I
seem to remember.

In 1993 AIX PS/2 would hardly have been news anymore. Sounds about right
for announcing stuff running on the 601, but it's a bit early for Solaris
2.5.1.

I have 2 PPC machines running Solaris 2.5.1. One is a Motorola PowerStack
E100, the other an early IBM PReP (6015-40P IIRC). The docs also mention
that it runs on the PPC thinkpads (820/850/860).

It's actually quite nice, it feels quite snappy and full featured. The only
oddity is that when you install it, you need to boot some special
openfirmware emulation from floppy disk which can then load the rest from
CD.

I only have the OS, but I heard there's a version of the Sun Workshop
compiler that has PPC support. I'd love to get my hands on that ;)

There's also a version of OS/2 for those machines, but it's hardly more
than a proof of concept.

however. I get a Could not connect to mysql error.

Anyway, I really appreciate you pointing me in these directions. I love a
