Sometimes it's too heavy and doesn't come apart. I remember when our RP04 was
delivered in college; it had to go down some stairs. The local rigging company
did that.

For moving heavy stuff up or down stairs, a "refrigerator dolly" might work.
If that isn't strong enough, the next option would be a safe dolly, which
suggests hiring a safe dealer for the job would work well. After all, safes
often weigh a lot more than the heaviest DEC product.

So far, my algorithm has been:

 - field-strip the SOB;
 - if still too heavy, fall back to neighbor + 6 pack.

That's a great idea!

I was looking at motorcycle/mower lifts (under $100 at Harbor Freight)
as a way to avoid the strain on my back. Lifting a 100 lb. tape drive
is beyond my waning abilities. It's a tough truth--when I was younger,
I could toss around a 90 lb. bag of Sackrete without much effort. Now I
have to bribe a neighbor with beer to help me out.

My biggest problem with heavy the stuff is stairs. Perhaps your gizmo
could be adapted to an appliance dolly...

This is awesome. Wish I lived in your neighborhood.
But on the BOM, seems like the last item could lead to two completely different
variants.

“Hereholdmycoffeeandwatchthis!” … I dunno, it just doesn’t have the same fatal
air about it….
