I read a CentOS bugzilla http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=3853 that
indicated that the functionality may exist in the kernels yet, but
just the user space tools were missing. After doing some testing, the
persistent caching does not appear to be in the kernels, either that
or process outlined in the bugzilla entry and
http://people.redhat.com/steved/fscache/docs/HOWTO.txt are missing
something.

I also tried the Centos Plus kernel to see if it's be enabled in there
and the results appear to be the same.

Apparently I need to use either Fedora 12 if I want to use this
feature now, use CentOS 5.2 and not update as waiting till CentOS 6 is
not really an option. I really hate using bleeding edge and not
updating and running with packages with know security vulnerabilities
(even on our internal networkd) seems like a poor idea. ::sigh::

[CentOS] Persistent NFS Caching

2009-12-01 Thread Paul Berger
Has anybody got persistent NFS caching to work after 5.3 update
removed the tech preview?

I have cachesfilesd installed & running and using nfs-utils with fsc
patched back in but it appears to not be working, any pointers?

Well it does not seem to be a CentOS or Windows firewall issue since
you can mount the share via command line.

Are you specifying a your username (tim) and windows password in the
pc configuration in BackupPC? You probably would be getting a
different error message if those were not entered or were wrong, but
just to cover the bases because I have DOH moments and forget such
things.

The other option is to specify the IP address as "ClientNameAlias" if
the windows system has a static IP. If the IP address is not
statically mapped you may have look at using the DHCP settings and
specify that the host is a DHCP host.

Hope some of this may help, I just setup BackupPC and had two windows
boxes (Windows 2000) that I wanted to backup with it and had no
issues.

Not to fan the fire more ... but I see 5.4 on the tracker

So it should be "soon".

When I first saw it I took it seriously ... there was a thread not
long ago that wanted basically the same thing as the first 1/3rd. I
read the first sentence and thought WTF dude but then read a bit more
and thought DOH! to myself.

You can try the quick how-to I posted here:
http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos/2007-October/045424.html

I've had some issues with the display showing corrupted data depending on
the X server being used. SVGA always seems to work, the latest Intel one
seems fine also.

They have not used CentOS for some time I think. AsteriskNOW recently
switched from using rPath to CentOS when they released version 1.5.

Re: [CentOS] iFolder on Centos

Doh,
I could not find the source code on the www.ifolder.com website for the
current version ... the only place I could find recent source code was the
opensuse build factory.
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/dl9pf/openSUSE_10.3/src/

Anybody have a link to the sources they are distributing on the iFolder
website, I would be interested in seeing.

Re: [CentOS] iFolder on Centos

2009-04-08 Thread Paul Berger
I tried it a year or so ago and had some luck building version 3.6, but was
having issues with the web admin bombing out trying to administer users.

What I remember from then was I pulled in a bit of the mono stuff from
fedora, pulling in dependencies as I found them from fedora or openSUSE (if
needed).

To avoid the trouble it would probably be simpler to run openSUSE 10.3 in a
virtual machine and install it on there as there are released packages for
that version of the 3.7.2 version.

There is a guide on how to build & install it on ubuntu ... this should at
least give some clues as to what the dependencies are and any gotchas.
