[KCFusion] CF5 Installation problems
Hello, I recently downloaded the CF5 upgrade, however the install fails every time, I get as far as the dialog box indicating that a previous version has been found which can be migrated, once I click OK it never goes any further, in task manager (NT4 SP6a by the way) it indicates the install app is running... Anyone else seen this? Any ideas? Thanks, Ron. [EMAIL PROTECTED] __ The KCFusion.org list and website is hosted by Humankind Systems, Inc. Ok, there are two new links at http://www.kcfusion.org . The Common Function Library Project link points to the site created by Raymond Camden and Rob Brooks-Bilson. I down loaded all of the user defined functions that they have assembled on their site and created a custom tag that will load up user defined functions into the scope of your choice (application if you want to use them for the life of the application respectively). The other link in the download section called Packaging UDF's contains the vtm editors for each package and a tutorial.htm that shows how the tag was built. Down load the zip file and read the doc and then lets discuss it online. In this spirit, I started off as a CF developer and now do mostly ASP, VB, SQL Development. I really like CF, and I still use it occasionally for side projects, and am trying to keep up with it so that my skills don't get stale, but I just don't use it very much in my current job anymore. I AM however, teaching myself JSP and one thing that keeps popping up is that JRUN is one of the more popular JSP Engines. When I tried to download it and intall it it seemed to install fine, but then none of my webs on my local machine worked. The PHP, ASP, CF, JSP AND EVEN MY HTML pages all returned the same error. (I don't recall exactly what it was now) so I quickly uninstalled it from my machine so that I could continue with the ASP, PHP and CF development. I downloaded the Free Developer edition of the JRUN 3.1 Server. Running on Win 2K Pro SP1 and IIS 5. Am I missing something? or perhaps I just don't know enough about it to set it up correctly. Any help would be appreciated. _ Lee Brandt Systems Analyst Intertec Publishing voice: (913)967-7414 cell: (913)238-2921 fax: (913)514-9310 emails: [EMAIL PROTECTED] -Original Message- From: Bryan LaPlante [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, July 09, 2001 12:28 PM To: [ KCFusion ] Subject: [KCFusion] Meeting I see that Ryan has been trying to get some response from the group about what your interests are. Re: [KCFusion] Meeting
One thing that is true about Kansas city is that we are a head quarter town. Companies here are under a great deal of pressure to keep up with current technology and Java seems to be the choice for building new systems or upgrading legacy systems. Cold Fusion does not have as many customers here as they do in Dallas, Chicago, St. Louis and other similar sized towns. That is why I say let's talk about what every we want to but still give all the support to our CF developers that they need. I like your idea about getting paid to go to the meetings. There has been some talk at Macromedia about a new form of user group that exists inside the walls of a company. As more information develops on the resources that will be available to a company that wants to start such a group I will forward that information to the group. Re: [KCFusion] Meeting
Looks like I'll be in town tomorrow night. If anyone wants me to speak on any subject they think I might know something about, I'll be happy to give it a shot. Otherwise, I have written a couple of things lately that might be of interest: * A wrapper for GPG so that you can do PGP encryption from within CF without paying NAI's exorbidant server licensing fees. * A program that will seek out queries that can be parameterized, and automagically edit them to use cfqueryparam. * Use of cfflush to keep a browser's attention during a CF-based flat file import. Also, notes on how to accomplish that sort of thing (since list functions tend to behave badly in that context.) Daryl, *Your idea on CFFLUSH would be good. *I have also heard a few others ask about using CFGRAPH (brief demo would be nice). *I am interested in hearing about the functionality of connecting Flash CF/databases. RE: [KCFusion] Meeting
The only reason I'm not at more meetings is that I'm buried in work. My most consistent participation in any technical/professional group is via email list, for the aforementioned reason. I can't think of a flaw in how KC Fusion is set up, but many of the presentations seem too advanced. Talk about Java Beans, C+, VB, etc. goes right over my head. It's kind of a bummer to be sitting there just looking polite/interested until the meeting is over. Oh, and there's no way I could make it to an afternoon meeting. [KCFusion] Response to Mark's questions
I don't recall there being any meeting in the last 2 weeks??? The last one I attended was the Cost Xpert one where Girish discussed how to analyze project costs (estimation) and used CostXpert.com's software as a brief example. #1 - Bryan will have to answer #1 (archive) #2 - I have broached the subject of a listing of members and we can discuss this again tomorrow if people are interested. Kory from Sprint would like to create a Sprint specific listing, and I would like to see a comprehensive listing of members and local companies that use CF. #3 - Classroom like discussion/learning might be beneficial. How about we run it for 1/2 of the meeting time so that other topics can be covered? We could cover 1-2 main functions or topics in the classroom setting per meeting. #4 - Daytime meetings - my preference would be for evening time. If your manager supports you (which mine do not), you could leave early on the day of the meeting (or sleep in late). For the rest of us, driving to the Plaza and back to work during the business day is not practical for a 1-2 hour meeting. It also limits our flexibility to have longer meetings. I have not been able to participate in some of the evening 'socializing' events afterwards, but occasionally people go out for a drink and continue their networking afterwards. I'm glad to see more people responding to Bryan's encouragement email! Ryan __ The KCFusion.org list and website is hosted by Humankind Systems, Inc.
