Removing a character from a list?
Hey all, I have a question that is probably a bit of a basic list question. I am doing a search kind of situation, and I'm trying to make it a little intelligent. Basically, if there are quotes, search for literal matches, if not, check for spaces. That kind of thing. Well, my question is, if they enter "word1 word2" word3, then it searches for that last word with a space in front of it, so it finds nothing. How do I remove that space? So that it searches for "word1 word2" and then for "word3"? What I have so far is cfif #left('#keyword#',1)# is '"' cfquery !-- Query stuff in here --- where cfloop list="#keyword#" index="keywords" delimiters='"' name LIKE '%#keywords#%' or/cfloop 0=1 /cfquery Stuart D. -- Archives: http://www.eGroups.com/list/cf-talk To Unsubscribe visit http://www.houseoffusion.com/index.cfm?sidebar=listsbody=lists/cf_talk or send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with 'unsubscribe' in the body.

Will, Thanks for that tidbit of info :-) I honestly was unaware of that - I had previously setup a Win2K server with CF 4.01 and didn't have any ole db issues. - Jay Which I'd like to point out is NOT Microsoft's fault. OLEDB not installed? Right now I'm testing a new server we've been setting up for the past week or so, and I've come the conclusion that OLE DB hasn't been installed properly. I downloaded the MDAC Com Checker and when I check to see which OLEDB components are installed I get a CoCreateInstance failed error. So, I figure I could just download MDAC and reinstall, right? Not the way MS planned things out - I can't install the most current version of MDAC because Windows insists I already have it installed. What's the easiest way to proceed now? The only option I can see it to reinstall Win 2000 and hope the OLE DB stuff gets installed the second time around. Anyone have any better options? Installing versions of CF prior to 4.5.1 on Win2K will break OLEDB. I was able to fix this by putting the Win2K CD in the machine, and selecting "Upgrade your operating system" from the menu. This will fix OLEDB, but will break any third-party device drivers, so you'll then have to reinstall them. Recently, someone posted a command-line upgrade option, but I don't remember what it was, and I don't know whether it works. If you search the previous list posts, you can probably find it. I have my "Limit simultaneous requests to" set at 5, how can I monitor this so I can see how often and when this limit is being hit, or how many requests are being queued at any given time? You can use NT Performance Monitor to view this information, or you can use the CFSTAT console application, which will display this info and let you pipe it to a text file. What seems to be the common setting for this, my application has lots of dynamic queries that could be small or pretty hoggish so its harder for me to determine this number. Im sure server HP has lots to do with it as well. The only way to determine the correct value for your server, with your applications, is to load-test the server with the applications on that server. britta, :~~ : From: Britta Wingenroth (Design Department) [EMAIL PROTECTED] : : This is a multi-part message in MIME format. : Content-Type: text/html; :~~ that above is a major problem on this list and causes alot of code to be majorly unreadable. when posting to this list, please do it in plain text only. :~~ : I'm having trouble passing a parameter on with a Java : code new window function. RE: Application.cfm Question...
One other thing I forgot to mention in my previous mail is that once it finds the first application.cfm file during the search from the current directory upwards, it stops. It does not search upwards for any more application.cfm files. So, if you have an application.cfm file in your root, and another application.cfm in a subdirectory of /control, and you open any template in the /control directory, it will pre-pend the application.cfm file from the /control directory and nothing else. dBIII+ -Original Message- From: Gary McNeel, Jr. [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, April 25, 2000 4:42 PM To: Cf-Talk Subject: Application.cfm Question... Are application.(variablename) variables truly persistent. I am a bit confused here. I know that only one application.cfm file is executed automatically at any given time (others would have to be CFINCLUDEd). I have a main application.cfm file in the root of the site. I set the cfapplication (application and session management, name, etc.). I then set a few application variables like application.dsn and application.sitename, etc. That's about it. (ex: main root application.cfm) cfapplication name="BugTracking" setclientcookies="Yes" sessionmanagement="Yes" sessiontimeout="#CreateTimeSpan(0,0,20,0)#" applicationtimeout="#CreateTimeSpan(2,0,0,0)#" cflock timeout="30" throwontimeout="Yes" type="EXCLUSIVE" name="#Application.ApplicationName#" cfset application.dsn = "BugTracking" !--- Sets the datasource to use --- cfset application.sitename = "Item Tracking" /cflock A directory level down I add another application.cfm that does a very quick security check for user access to this area (yes/no field in db). In the CFQUERY I use a datasourcename="#application.dsn#". I have, in the past, just copied the application.cfm from the root into the other folder and deleted anything not necessary, leaving the cfapplication and application variables, then adding any other code. ex: sub directory application.cfm cfif isdefined("cookie.PeopleID") cfquery datasource="#application.dsn#" name="qryAuthen" SELECT PeopleID, PeopleFirstName, PeopleLastName, PeopleDACStaff FROM tblPeople WHERE PeopleID = #cookie.PeopleID# /cfquery cfelse cflocation addtoken="No" url="../mainMenu.cfm" cfabort /cfif Today I went ahead and deleted everything EXCEPT the little security query (above) to see what would happen. Now the application can't seem to find my application.dsn variable. Does the running of another application.cfm file flush the variables created previously? Shouldn't the application variables be available for the life of the application AS LONG as they are not flushed (STRUCTCLEARED or DELETED) or changed? Why would running another application.cfm, that does not delete or change the earlier set application variables, make them unavailable to the application? Do you have to re-create the application.cfm file for each subfolder? in your subdirectory application.cfm did you name the application again? RE: passing variable with Javascript code
Britta, Tough to read your code when you send with HTML format, but I think I have your answer below. (I'd wager that HTML messages get ignored by a large number of otherwise helpful folks here, as they're coming across in plain text since the latest embedded script virus scare.) All you need to do is append that variable name and value to the Javascript function URL, like so: cfoutput script language="JavaScript"!-- function productwindow() {product = window.open("products/1detailtemplate.cfm?code=#code#","Product_Detail", "l= ocation,menubar,height=500,width=500"); } // --/script /cfoutput Then on your 1detailtemplate.cfm page, get the value with URL.code. You can also pass values with a Javascript form submit function, but I usually find it faster and easier to append URL variables. This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --=_NextPart_000_001F_01BFAEA1.784356F0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable I'm having trouble passing a parameter on with a Java code new window = function. If ,in your database, you are using paths to the images in your database, rather than BLOB fields, couldn't you just add the path to a default image as a default value for the column in the table? - Original Message - From: Jay Sudowski [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 26 April 2000 03:06 Thanks for that tidbit of info :-) I honestly was unaware of that - I had previously setup a Win2K server with CF 4.01 and didn't have any ole db issues. I think it depends on the order of installation. I installed CF 4.01 on a Windows 2000 Advanced Server, and it completely broke OLEDB and partially broke ODBC. I suspect that had CF 4.01 been pre-installed on an NT machine which was subsequently upgraded to Win2K, then OLEDB and ODBC woulf be fine. How can I retrieve country where user locate (and state if country is USA or Canada) if I know user's IP-address? You need a reverse look-up on the DNS (or words to that effect). We did it in VBScript (which sucks somwhat). If anyone has done it in CF I'd be interested to know how. Re: Removing a character from a list?
You don't actually need to remove them from the list, just from the string in the loop, so cfif #left('#keyword#',1)# is '"' cfquery !-- Query stuff in here --- where cfloop list="#keyword#" index="keywords" delimiters='"' name LIKE '%#trim(keywords)#%' or /cfloop0=1 /cfquery /cfif ...should work. Your bigger worry is the if statement at the top, what is it's purpose? I could be wrong having not seen the rest of the code but I think it is totally unnecessary. Also if someone was to enter "w1 w2" w3 w4 as their search string your query would search for w1 and w2 together and then w3 and w4 together as there is no quote between them to delimit them in the list. There are many ways you could solve this, and more experienced people than I will read this and give you a better solution than I ever could, but you need to put some more thought into your query by the looks of things. -- James Smith - [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://ask-ted.com - Thiele Euronet Directories Limited = VI VI VI The editor of the beast. - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, April 25, 2000 8:21 PM Subject: Removing a character from a list? -- Archives: http://www.eGroups.com/list/cf-talk To Unsubscribe visit http://www.houseoffusion.com/index.cfm?sidebar=listsbody=lists/cf_talk or send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with 'unsubscribe' in the body.

Re: Help with Filername facility
What I would do is create a unique directory (i.e. with an incremental name: tempdir01 etc.), then set this as the destination in the Upload. Then you can use CFDIRECTORY to find the new file, get the name and extension by parsing the string, move it to the intended directory and then delete the temporary directory. Long winded but it'll work. Re: OT: Restart of PCAny
Is it possible to restart PCAny remotely ? S.O. told me it is with NT 4 Server ? If even also with NT 4 Workstation ? yeah, lots of ways. You can make a cold fusion page that CF_EXEC's a batch file: net stop "pc anwhere NT service name" pause a few seconds net start "pc anwhere NT ervice name" or you can get the Fictional telnet daemon for Win 32 from www.fictional.net And telnet into NT and do cmd net stop "pc anwhere NT service name" cmd net start "pc anwhere NT service name" you can also kick CF like this. If pcA hangs often (it does for us), then you might try this Danish Delight: www.danware.com for NetOp. It's highly recommended and supposedly much faster than pcA. They have a very long eval period!! vbg But the telnet backdoor into NT is useful for lots of stuff. RE: Application.cfm Question...
Whoops. Here's a classic case of not understanding the question before answering it. (Hey! It was 1am!) Sorry 'bout that. I'm booking passage off-planet now. ;) dBIII+ -Original Message- From: Daniel Wm Brick III [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, April 26, 2000 1:08 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: Application.cfm Question... Application variables are only persistent because application.cfm file is pre-pended to each and every template that is opened (not CFINCLUDED) by the CF server. The rule goes that the CF server will first search the current directory where the CF template is located for an application.cfm file and pre-pend it. If not found in the current directory, it will search upwards from the current directory until it finds one. I believe the search stops at the web root. Hope this answers your question. dBIII+ -Original Message- From: Gary McNeel, Jr. RE: (OT) CGI problem
The cgi program is used to access data files. We would like to keep all these data files on one specific machine, so they can be accessed from other multiple machines. I'd like to be able to access the data files using unc conventions; i.e. \\machinename\e:\clientname\datafiles\nameoffile However, the cgi account is running as a local system account, and my sysadmin is telling me there is no way to make the local system account a member of the global domain. (we have our own p.d.c. Of course, if i log on with my administrator account (which is a global domain account), or any other global domain account, i can see and access the data files on the other machine. Have any of you come across this problem ?? Does anyone have any recommendations or approaches to the problem ? What web server are you using? If you're using IIS, the CGI program will run using the IWAM_MACHINENAME account, which you could change to a different account. To change the account used, I think you need to use the Metabase Editor or write a WSH script to change this. The values I think you'd have to change would be Schema\Properties\Names\WAMUserName and Schema\Properties\Names\WAMUserName. Alternatively, you could change the permissions that the IWAM_MACHINENAME account has, I suppose, although that might be harder to get by your network guys. If you're running another web server, you can probably change the account used by CGI programs by changing the account used by the web server itself, although I don't know for sure. RE: CFM templates not accessible to clients -- Resolution
Regarding the security issue I had posted a week ago: I finally broke down and opened an incident with Allaire. The young lady who returned my call (thanks, Laura!) explained that: (1) I must first grant NTFS access to any users who need access to the site to the following directories: x:\Program Files\ColdFusion\BIN\ ... ColdFusion binaries x:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ ... The site itself x:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\... Windows (Yipe!) (2) I must then stop the following services: Coldfusion Executive Coldfusion Application Server Coldfusion RDS World Wide Web Publishing (3) Finally, I have to restart the services in the reverse order. Right now, my site is wide open to anonymous users. For most of the site, that's OK -- but there will be some areas that will be restricted. The site is scheduled to go live tomorrow, after which I will set up another site in which I can try out different security schemes to determine what will work best for us. My ideal would be to have intranet users log in to NT, and then have all security on the site handled via NT challenge/response. Because we have some users in remote offices, and others who dial in, this may not be practical due to firewall issues. Anyway, thanks to all who assisted me in resolving this problem. JGB -- Original Text -- From: Jeffrey G. Brown@MIS@CM_PRODUCTS, on 4/18/00 4:32 PM: To: internet[[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Gentlebeings... Bear with me, please, as I am somewhat new to Coldfusion and NT administration. I began development of our intranet site in VBScript on IIS 4.0, and then we switched to CF. The VBScript site, named cimnet2d, is still online, and all users can view it. The new site, named cimnetcf, is totally CFM-based. Admin-type users can see it, but not non-admin, ordinary users (hereafter referred to as 'Joe User'). The directory trees for each site have exactly the same ACL permissions set throughout, and the IIS 4.0 settings are the same. Both directory trees are configured for Win NT 4.0 NTLM authentication (no anonymous or basic), and have been given Read access throughout to members of the Authenticated Users group. I finally realized that Coldfusion itself might have something to do with the access problem, and tried an experiment. A very simple file, containing only HTML (no VBScript or CFM code), named 'simple.htm' was placed in the cimnet2d home directory ( which has always been accessible to Joe User). Log in as Joe User and access it with IE 4.0. Result: access good. Rename it to simple.asp: access good. BUT, rename to simple.cfm: no access! Same results in the cimnetcf home directory. The problem, thus, lies not in the directory permissions for the site or the IIS authentication settings, but in access to some Coldfusion resource. The ACL for the \programs\coldfusion directory tree on the server contains only SYSTEM and the Domain Admins group. Adding a user to the Doman Admins group gives him access to cimnetcf; not practical for security reasons, obviously. Windows NT is running the CF Server under the SYSTEM user. What resource(s) must I make accessible, and to whom, for the CF site to work for all authenticated users? How, in general, can I effectively integrate CF with IIS/NT 4.0 security? Many thanks... That is quite simillar to the URL the cf_stockgrabber tag that you built, I tried adapting your code but without any success at all If one could find a site that allowed you to personalize a portfolio, then doenload same in csv file then I think it would all be doable. This is fine I think for personal use but using to supply content to a public site is of course not acceptable due to copyright. It may be of course that this is exactly why Yahoo has amended their site. It may be that if the tag works on US quotes one could adapt it with London Symbols which I think could mean trying it with a -L or *L after the symbol. Let me know if that works. RE: does everyone always encrypt?? decrypter?
CF uses DES for encryption. This is used because it has good performance while maintaining decent encryption. The "cracker" as you put it simply decrypts DES. If Allaire were to change the encryption algorithm templates encrypted by the previous algorithm would no longer work unless the system first interrogated the file to discover it's encryption method. This would incur an unacceptable performance hit in high volume applications. Allaire has stated in the past that encrypting templates does not provide complete security, but it does provide enough so that the typical user can not read the plain text. Once someone has uninterrupted access to any code it is only a matter of time before it is cracked. I apologize if this was posted yesterday. I sent it and never saw it show up on the list... I am having a problem with CFFTP. In [EMAIL PROTECTED], Jeff Fongemie ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) in a fit of unbridled passion, wrote: I'm just curious, do people here always encrypt their cfm templates? I often don't, but I'm beginning to think it might be a good idea to start encrypting form action scripts. Any logic, reasoning people use for when/ when not to encrypt?? Barring any security holes on your web server, there is no real need to encrypt your files. Encryption is usually used by folks who write shrink-wrapped applications. There was awhile ago a bug on IIS that allowed incoming visitors to actually download the source code of your CF apps, bypassing CF App Server altogether. This has long been fixed, but I'm sure there's another bug or two similar to this yet to be exploited. The point: Beware coding sensitive data into your CF templates. Make sure your security is tight. (Like, don't do something dumb and allow public FTP read access to your CFML directories!). Make sure your server is up to date. Blah blah. another crazy request from the boss
Here I go again. This isn't really a Fusion question. But I think the people on this list are among the best of the best in the web design field. I need to locate a package/custom tag that will allow me to do cross-browser slide shows with streaming sound bites. Sounds fun, doesn't it. The directive calls for static slides. No problem, I can use JavaScript to scroll through these. However, I have to find a way to do a secondary call to a Windows Media File or Real Audio file that launches when the slide is called. This sound file needs to a) stream b) launch in the background or with minimal controls and c) hopefully be cross-browser 4.0+ compatible. I have looked at StreamCams from Lotus. RE: What happened to this list?
Sorry to hear that, Judith. I think of myself as an inventive, intermediate programmer, but hardly a guru. I need as much help as I can get with all the projects. And I try to recipricate that help to all involved. More than that, however, I've used the list to start a lot of interesting topics (COM, XML, WAP/WML, etc...). And all of those discussions have been invaluable in terms of the resources then have given me for further research and understanding. My take is, people should judge you by the person you are. you'll run into problems if you decide to store ALL of the information as cookies. the thread that was on here before on the subject seemed to resolve to a limit of 20 cookies per domain on any given browser. client variables are stored on YOUR end, and the only limits on size/number are those that you impose. the keys (CFID and CFTOKEN) are the only things stored as cookies on the client browser. they are the unique keys to the DB, and let you get around the browser limit on cookies. This took me about 2-3 weeks, but fortunately for me I'd had extensive experience with O'reilly's webstore (perl script) beforehand and knew exactly what I was looking to achieve before I set out. This would incur an unacceptable performance hit in high volume applications. Not true. Allaire does not simply encrypt the file as-is...they include a custom header to the encrypted file which they use to easily determine the encryption method. Regards, Howie Allaire has stated in the past that encrypting templates does not provide complete security, but it does provide enough so that the typical user can not read the plain text. Once someone has uninterrupted access to any code it is only a matter of time before it is cracked. Haven't had time myself, but am wondering if the name change in the tag might mean a change in the cracker??? Re: Custom tag for generating email
CFMail does this already. Here's an example from the manual: CFMAIL QUERY="GetCustomers" FROM="[EMAIL PROTECTED]" TO="#EMail#" SUBJECT="Contact Info Verification" Dear #FirstName# - We'd like to verify that our customer database has the most up-to-date contact information for your firm. Our current information is as follows: Company Name: #Company# Contact: #FirstName# #LastName# Address: #Address1# #Address2# #City#, #State# #Zip# Phone: #Phone# Fax: #Fax# Home Page: #HomePageURL# Please let us know if any of the above information has changed, or if we need to get in touch with someone else in your organization regarding this request. Re: Custom tag for generating email
I've got one that allows users to add or delete their email from a database, then, gives you the ability to email the list in bulk. It also give the admin the ability to add and delete email addresses. It checks for dupes and sends notices when folks add or delete their address. The newsletter can be typed in from the browser on the admin page. Comes with Access datasource. Allows admin to view addresses. Email me off list. Re: another crazy request from the boss
IBM Hotmedia can do java based cross browser slide shows with streaming sound, you prepare the images and other required files in whatever other programs you use and them create the slide show in hotmedia. Its free by the way, and can do quite a bit more than slideshows. http://www.ibm.com/hotmedia - Original Message - From: Nick Call [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, April 26, 2000 4:20 PM Subject: another crazy request from the boss Here I go again. Excellent setup, but it is not what the man wants. Any takers? Thanks in Advance. RE: Custom tag for generating email
Why not make a database of the users you want them do a cfmail with the message and make the to address the users in the database.
