Re: Check this (BEWARE, POTENTIAL EMAIL BOMB, THO APPEARS BROKEN)

2000-05-01 Thread Eric A. Griff

Hehe,

IF YOUR EMAILLER ACTUALLY SHOWS THAT AS AN ATTACHMENT, DO NOT OPEN IT.
Though it's probably just broken (and can't run).

Talk about a failed attempt at a potential email bomb.. The header was
scrozzed, and in the usual cryptic, recursive design, hehe.

Must be a script out there to create these or something, since they all
seem to be the same base code.

Actually kind of interesting if you read the script. I had not realized
that the variables were reduced to random characters like that in the
Virus itself.

Sort of educational when it does not actually infect anyone.

Now, if everyone could just post in plain text... (and outhouse express
can even tell which addressbook entry wants plain text or not...)

2000-05-01 Thread Leong Yew

I thought it was pretty obvious. This person probably subscribed to the list
with an email address that had an autoresponder attached to it. So every
time a message was sent to that address from cf-talk, the autoresponder
automatically sent this default message back to the sender (the list).

CFTRANSACTION: Will it fire if script times out?

2000-05-01 Thread Dave Notik

All:

Simple question, maybe not such a simple answer: Will CFTRANSACTION fire
and roll back a transaction enclosed in it even if the ColdFusion script
itself fails somehow, e.g. it times out at a certain point server-side?

Please advise. Muchos gracias, in advance...

Actually, I'm rather enjoying them. I can recite them and it's so nice
to be thanked for something. It's so long since anyone thanked me for
anything it's making up for it. Remember when you used to go to stores
and bought something and the shop assistant would count the change into
your hand and thank you for coming in?Nowadays they sullenly slap a
handful of coins into your hand and glare at you until you skulk away.

Last week, I bought a drink for $1.80 and a newspaper for $1 and the
teenaged shop assistant used the cash register to add them up!! She
walked 5 steps to the cash register, added the two items, then came back
to tell me it was $2.80. I laughed out loud and she looked puzzled. I
said to her "YOu needed the machine to add those two things
together???" and she went bright red, looked very embarassed and said
"Yes, it was silly wasn't it"

Actually, I think she didn't need the machine, it was just a habit. She
always used the machine to add up and this was no different.

But it amused me and my family for the rest of the day.

RE: Annotating a HTML document

2000-05-01 Thread Andy Edmonds

>>Any ideas on how to actually parse the document to add a unique key to the
paragraph tag?

Parsing is easy...

...the hard stuff...

Instead of using CFFile, how about placing a custom tag opening call in the
application.cfm and a closing tag in onRequestEnd?

Then, in the custom tag, thistag.generated content will be your page. The
custom tag could look for a url parameter to get into action.

Tagging annotations so that they survive page modification is a non trivial
problem alas.

If find it funny how in my current Outlook view I see the subject as:

"Thank you for choosing Smart Web Tech your online business provider. We
have received you (16 items)"

That's about accurate, if you discount the incorrect grammar. =)

ODBC Data Source troubles

2000-05-01 Thread Pablo Nevares

I was wondering if anyone has had issues adding ODBC DSNs using the
Microsoft Text Driver (*.txt, *.csv). My last two attempts at it have ended
in ColdFusion Server not being able to verify the DSN.

The csv file is basically in this format:

-
"Date", PackagesSent, SiteTours, InitialOffers
"03/15/2000", 0, 0, 0
similar rows
-

When I try to verify the DSN I get "Failed", and the normal CF warnings
about what to check. I've added Access databases through here fine, but I
always have problems with plain text files. =) Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Cold Fusion interacting with Authorware

2000-05-01 Thread Scott_Brady

For an intranet project I'm working on, we're having difficulty getting the
ReadURL function in Authorware to read CFM files. Here are the details:

1) We have a CFM file that reads in a value from a database and outputs those
on screen (if you were to run those CFM files from a browser).
2) In Authorware, we set a variable like this; userString:=ReadURL("
http://homedev1/scorp/cafe/jump_page.cfm")
3) In a display icon, we are outputting the value of userString.

The puzzling thing we have is that some CFM files work and some don't, and we
can't figure out why. And some CFM files will not work, but if you just re-run
the piece, it
works just fine (it's not consistent). For instance, the HTML generated by our
cafeteria menu
(database-driven "menu.cfm"), displays as userString just fine. However,
jump_page.cfm in the same folder doesn't display. (we don't get an error
message, just no output). We've taken all of the CF tags out of jump_page.cfm
to test it, and it doesn't work. (but jump_page.html, which is the same thing
just renamed, does)

I've searched an authorware newsgroup on deja.com but not found any help there
and
tried Macromedia's discussion groups as well as Allaire's forums, with no luck
at this point.

Have any of you come across this problem or have any suggestions for
what could be the problem?

Here's the code of jump_page.cfm (after stripping out the cold fusion stuff):

 Login page

Thanks!

Scott

Annotating a HTML document

2000-05-01 Thread Peter Tilbrook

I have a client that requires the ability to have members of a site
"annotate" (ie: add comments too) a static HTML document. Changes made by
one member could be viewed by but not modified another member while other
members could add additional comments.

I was thinking of using CFFILE to read the document into a variable and
parsing the text to make each paragraph "clickable" to another template for
adding comments by modifying the tag to become a unique hyperlink, eg:
Click to annotate>.

Any ideas on how to actually parse the document to add a unique key to the
paragraph tag?

Thanks!

disappearing form fields

2000-05-01 Thread Bryan Love

Does anyone know why form fields might disappear and thus cause a cold
fusion error when trying to resolve them? This problem seems to be computer
specific; it will happen on one computer but not on the five computers next
to it (same LAN). The computer on which it is happening has been restarted
but to no avail. We have checked browser settings, version, caching, and
everything else under the sun.
This site is on a secure server and thus uses SSL on every page.
The computer on which it throws errors is a Windows 98 machine (so are the
others that don't throw errors).

Anyone?

Cookies do allow you to specify dates and times, but the CF documentation on
using CFCOOKIE to do this is pretty thin. One way you can do this is with
the CreateTimeSpan function. I suspect that you can do this with other CF
date-time functions as well. For example, I can create a cookie which will
expire in one minute like this:

Re: Checkbox Search Within Range Again

2000-05-01 Thread Josh Black

Not a problem Instead of

 AND Acres LIKE '#Acres#%'

change it to

 and (acres >= 1 and acres <= 5)
 and (acres >= 6 and acres <= 10)
 and acres >= 11

like below:

SELECT ParcelID, APN, County, Acres, ID
FROM Property
WHERE 0 = 0

 AND ParcelID LIKE '#ParcelID#%'

 AND APN LIKE '#APN#%'

 AND County LIKE '#County#%'

 and (acres >= 1 and acres <= 5)
 and (acres >= 6 and acres <= 10)
 and acres >= 11

ORDER BY ParcelID

Does that make more sense? HTH

RE: how do you print info from a view

2000-05-01 Thread Ron Anderson

Mirza,

Are you looking at the data from the SQL query Analyzer?
You can print directly from the QA, but here's what you can do.

Select the option to view the Results in a grid (icon on the toolbar).
Select the columns you want, just like in Excel, then right click.
You can either copy and paste it or save the selection as a CSV or TAB file
for printing.
I usually paste it in Excel

Re: VB COM Examples

2000-05-01 Thread WBB

Hi Shannon,

I don't know if that would work or not (I've never tried it) but you might
consider sending the resultset or collection back as a formatted WDDX (a
string works fine for this) packet and read the packet in with CF..

Re: Creating formatted documents on the fly n CF

2000-05-01 Thread Max Paperno

Reed,

I've had good success using a product from Caere called OmniForm Internet Filer (or
something of the sort). This is similar to Adobe's PDF/FDF forms but is easier to
work with (not to mention less expensive). The forms themselves are written using a
text markup language (using Caere's visual design tool which will import various
formats as well as do scanning/OCR) and can therefore have CF code embedded in them
(and then processed via CFINCLUDE, for example). This would be similar to a RTF
solution (which is also a text markup language) with the added benefit that you can
specify which parts of the generated forms are modifiable, if any. On the client
side, one needs a little (free) browser plugin to interpret the resulting forms.

Might be worth your time to check out.

Cheers,
-Max

VB COM Examples

2000-05-01 Thread Shannon Hall

Examples,
I am looking for examples of com implementation for coldfusion. I am
working on a com object in VB, which has methods for returning a string for
the coldfusion tags, this works fine. What I am looking for now is a way to
return a resultset, or a collection for colfusion to loop through. Has
anyone done this? Alaires site makes no referrence to it, although it does
say it supports com implenetation.

Thanks for the suggestion but I'm a newbie and can't figure out how/where to insert
that code. Here is PROPSRCH1.CFM. Any help would be appreciated.

SELECT ParcelID, APN, County, Acres, ID
FROM Property
WHERE 0 = 0

 AND ParcelID LIKE '#ParcelID#%'

 AND APN LIKE '#APN#%'

 AND County LIKE '#County#%'

 AND Acres LIKE '#Acres#%'

ORDER BY ParcelID

Property List

Found #Property.RecordCount# matches

Parcel ID:
N/A #ParcelID#,
APN:
N/A#APN#, #County# County, #Acres#

Critical system error

2000-05-01 Thread Jacob

I keep getting the error below. I am using a Cold Fusion 4.0 interface to
update a table in SQL 7.0 SP2. This error only occurs in one table and not
any other table in the database.

There is 1.7 GB of drive space on the C drive (SQL program) and 4.3 GB on
the D drive (backups). Resources are not tied up. Running NT4 SP4
on Dual Intel PII 333Mhz with 512 MB Ram.

I updated the ODBC drive to MDAC 2.1.

DBCC CHECKDB (cfexam) executed by sa found 0 errors and repaired 0 errors.

Any ideas???

-
Error Diagnostic Information

Error occurred for unknown cause.

Normally the reason for this error is that a critical system resource (such
as memory or disk space) has been expended. You should check the available
disk space on all of your drives to make sure you have not run out. You
should also make sure that you are not running out of memory by running the
Performance Monitor and observing the effect of your application on free
system memory.

Another reason for this error may be that your ODBC driver is generating a
general protection fault. To help verify that your driver is funtioning
properly you should attempt to submit the query which is causing this error
to the data source using another ODBC application (such as MS Access or MS
Query).

Thanks
Jacob

CF Clustering

2000-05-01 Thread Doug Ford

Hi Folks,

My company is interested in doing CF Clustering, but
I am looking for some quick and dirty answers.

1) Is the "round-robin" process handled by CF or by a
router?

2) How efficient is the clustering within CF?

3) Any other opinions, thoughts or suggestions
are always appreciated.

Thanks,

Doug

RE: ArraySort

2000-05-01 Thread Dave Watts

> Can ArraySort be used on a two dimensional array. If so what
> would a typical example look like?

You can use ArraySort on two-dimensional arrays, because in CF, a
two-dimensional arrays is actually a one-dimensional array in which the
members are themselves one-dimensional arrays. So, the two code snippets
below are functionally identical:

Now the first, or outer, array doesn't seem to expose anything that is
sortable - it's only got other arrays as members. If you did try to sort
aFamousFatGuys, you'd get an error. The members of the outer array are
themselves arrays, and those arrays contain sortable values, so you could
sort aFamousFatGuys[1] or aFamousFatGuys[2].

RE: Allaire KB Article 14020 Modification - Cluster Cats Load @ 100%

2000-05-01 Thread Ryan Hill

Yannick,

My cluster machines are running SP5 because SP6 breaks some CF things in
IIS, but I am running 4.5.1 on the entire cluster. Do you have to enter a
user/name pass when connecting to that page in Netscape? If you do, then
you don't have allow anonymous connections turned on for the site and you
need to do that in order for the services to work properly. Viewing the
page in your browser and accessing the page through a service account are
two different entities altogether.

Hope this helps,

Re: Checkbox Search Within Range

2000-05-01 Thread Josh Black

On your propsrch1.cfm page, when you're selecting the records to display,
you could include something like this in your query

select * from property where 0=0
 and (acres >= 1 and acres <= 5)
 and (acres >= 6 and acres <= 10)
 and acres >= 11

It's a bit of a hack, but it'll work.

dropdown navigation and Netscrape 6

2000-05-01 Thread Chris Giminez

I know this is not CF related, but it was discussed on this list a short time ago.

There was some discussion of using dhtml navigation (drop down menus) like microsoft
(and millions
of other sites) uses.
Shortly after spending a couple of hours implementing one of them (and loving it) I
downloaded
Netscape 6 and found it did not work at all. Netscape 4-4.7 had no problems. I was
hoping it was a
bug since it's a preview release, but it appears not to be.
See http://www.netmechanic.com/news/vol3/javascript_no4.htm

I don't know enough about dhtml and what WILL be supported to know if this type of
navigation can be
done in any way or if designers will be forced to load an applet to accomplish this
navigation
style.

Standards Schmandards Netscape. At least make it backwards compatible.

RE: What is the max Load of CF??? And clustering

Unfortunately for you, there is no meaningful way to answer this question.
There are just too many variables. How intensive is the process that each
user follows? How many database queries are required for each user? How
intensive are those queries? How much memory will be used for each user's
session?

> When you cluster a Cf server:
> Does the load simply get disbursed between both servers?

Generally, in a clustered web server environment, load gets distributed
across the clustered servers. There are variations in this. You might
distribute only the initial request, but then have all subsequent requests
from the same user go to the same server, which would allow you to use
Session variables. Or, instead of using the "sticky session" clustering just
described, you might have a fully load-balanced environment where each
request goes to the least busy server.

> Is it a true (or close to true) 2x (assuming two servers)
> load handling improvement?

This depends on what causes the bottlenecks within your application. If
you're running very intensive database queries, you can have as many
clustered web servers as you want, but in all likelihood, they're hitting
the same database server or cluster, so you won't see a performance gain in
that case.

> Can clustering be done on the fly? (with only a few reboots)
> Or do I have to install two servers at the same time as a
> clustered pair?

You'll generally have to install additional software on each server, but
this can be done after the fact, so to speak. If you use the ClusterCats
option provided by CF Enterprise Edition, you'll need to reinstall CF to
install ClusterCats, if you didn't choose that the first time you installed
CF. I wouldn't call clustering setup "on the fly", exactly, as there's a
decent amount of setup required.

If the query has no records then the code inside the loop will NOT get
executed. CF checks for remaining records at the beginning of the loop, not
the end, so if there are no records then the loop code doesn't run.

You can't use a where clause in an Insert statement. You probably want

CF skips the whole code within the loop. You'll have to trap for no records.

RE: Regular Expressions

2000-05-01 Thread Danny Zigrino

Character classes and negated character classes [], [^] often change the
meaning of what the contents mean. While not an expert, I have learned that
character classes are for one character at a time. I think what Howard Owens
suggested in the previous response suggests a good work around:

", scope.infile, 1)>
", scope.infile, 1)>

#outContent#

Furthermore, if you combined this type of search with a variable to keep
track of where you have already searched (in place of the 1), you could
convert this to a loop that would search globally for all instances.

more accurate and realiable than the cold fusion?

but the CF is server side and NOT dependent on the clients browser. and i
believe the only time that CF actually send actual javascript to the client
browser is when using CFFORMs.

re: Disabling Form Elements

2000-05-01 Thread Lomvardias, Christopher

Jonathan,

You might find the code below helpful. It "grays out" in IE and also
effectively disables the fields in both IE and NS. NS doesn't support the
"gray" part unfortunately.
