Setting Focus to Field

2000-05-15 Thread Perez, Bismark

Hello there,

I was looking in the Allaire tutorials and found a way to set the focus to a
field as soon as the page is loaded, the problem is that it does not work
for me, can somebody tell me what I'm doing wrong...

Re: AS/400 Screen Scraping data and reading data???

2000-05-15 Thread Dave Hannum

For a "similar" type of system, for online course registration, we use a product
called CrossPlex. It is a pretty good screen
scraper that outputs data into arrays that you can parse using CF, JavaScript, ASP,
whatever you want. It allows us to hit
real-time on our CICS system.

Is the info been entered into the /400 in real time? do they needed in real
time... if not, one approach you could use is to save the data from the web
into a file (incremental record) on a /400 folder and have a CL run an RPG
(every xx min/hours) that will populate the data (kind of a copy of the
screen program)...

Hello all,
I am dealing with quite a Complex project where the
data from the Web Interface has to be pushed through AS/400 Screens
for the RGP program on the AS/400 to process for the finanacials.
I came across a Software called ScreenSurfer and the CF_Surfer
tag, has anyone development with this software or a better software?

Is there any possible straight forward way, i could push data
through these AS/400 screens, I cannot write into AS/400 databases
cause, the RPG program does quite a lot of processing for financials
through this screen.

Would anybody know of any other methods/Software to achieve this?

Appretiate it.

Not true. Try it out and see. It may not be *intended* for outputting
HTML, but the resulting code gets sent to the browser all the same, just as
the Application.cfm file does.

BTW, you need 4.0.1 or higher to use OnRequestEnd.cfm.

CFFILE - System requirements?

2000-05-15 Thread Todd Ashworth

Are there any "system requirements" for using CFFILE as far as the client is
concerned? We have a plain, generic, nothing fancy CFFILE setup on a page.
It works for us and for many others, but there are a few people for whom the

RE: Boolean fields in Foxpro

2000-05-15 Thread Michael O Reilly

Bill,

Apologies for not replying. The ISDN link for web and e-mail died on
Thursday and didn't come back until today.
After removing the Boolean field from the table, I discovered that the
numeric field I assumed was working correctly had been causing my problem
all along.
I am now able to add, modify and delete records using SQL.
I now have another problem. In Foxpro, records are marked for deletion. They
are only actually deleted when a PACK command is issued.
SQL delete command's only mark the record deleted.
I want to schedule a .cfm which will pack all the tables once a week.

Do you know anything about sending 'PACK' command to Foxpro within SQL.
I'm sure this problem would affect all Xbase derived databases.

Yeah, without FoxPro it becomes much more difficult to figure out what is
happening. You are correct, the database container contains the complete
structure of all the tables in the database. It also contains any
relationships between the tables and any triggers.

Have you tried to have the client send you a copy of the table structure? I
would have them do the following in FoxPro:

USE IN 0
SELECT
LIST STRUCTURE NOCONSOLE TO FILE

Then have them send you the file created in the 3rd step. You should get
something similar to the following:

Structure for table:D:\WORKING\WORK2\TEMP1.DBF
Number of data records: 117
Date of last update:12/13/1999
Code Page: 1252
Field Field Name TypeWidthDec Index Collate
Nulls
1 CUSTNO Character 6
No
2 CHECKNO Character 6
No
3 TRANSDATE Date8
No
4 PAYEE Character 40
No
5 AMOUNT Numeric 9 2
No
6 JOBNO Character 6
No
7 TYPECharacter 1
No
** Total ** 77

What you are looking for is your field and it's type. Make sure it is
"Logical". The field has to be a Logical field to accept true and false.

Re: Web registrars may take back your domain name

2000-05-15 Thread Nick Baker

This article contains a very misleading error.

"The Buyers' Guide explains that it's relatively easy to wave goodbye to
one registrar and transfer your domain name to another."

Apparently, no one attempted to verify this with an actual transfer. I have
been attempting to transfer a domain name from Bulkregister to Network
Solutions for over 2 months. At this point the problem has been with
Network Solutions. They have admitted that they do not, yet, have the
mechanism in place to handle these kinds of transfers.

The domain name problem doesn't stop there. The reason for initiating this
transfer in the first place was inadequacies in Bulkregister's
capabilities. After I obtained a domain name that was registered with
Bulkregister I could not make any changes. Only the original Registrant
could, i.e., they didn't have a simple mechanism in place to allow a change
in Registrants.

One has to wonder if - the authors interpretation of the court ruling was
in fact verified by competent attorneys.

And, yes these same comments are being sent to the author and mag.

Re: Anyone have any knowledge of CFCONTENT?

2000-05-15 Thread Randy Adkins

Well I thought of having them all ZIP files but trying to make it where
the audience does not have to have WIN_ZIP or any ZIP compression software
loaded to access these files.

But so far I believe I have no choice.

RE: Anyone have any knowledge of CFCONTENT?

It seems no matter what I do with text files or .cvs or whatever, they are
opened when using cfcontent. What I've done, is give them a different
extension and use the mime type of 'application/unknown'. That seems to
work beautifully.

I am trying to use CFContent to serve up files for downloading.
I have various of file types ranging from TXT, XLS, EXE, ZIP, and DOC
files.
EXE and ZIP files are working correctly.
However if I use TXT, XLS, and DOC files, they will be opened in the
browser
or I get a message of:

 HTTP Error 405
 405 Method Not Allowed

The method specified in the Request Line is not allowed for the resource
 identified by the request.
Please ensure that you have the proper MIME type set up for the resource
you
 are requesting.

Please contact the server's administrator if this problem persists.

 I have XLS as : xls - application/vnd.ms-excel
 I have DOC as: doc - application/msword
 I have TXT as: txt - text/plain

Do you think I should change those MIME Types to exe -
 application/x-msdownload.
Or is there a better way?

 Please see the code below:

First Page for displaying Download Button: This file works fine.
Query DOES exist just not displaying Query.

#file_topic#
#file_Desc#

Second File: CF_Mimetype ( Custom File to get Mime Type from Database ):
 This file works fine.

 support_file_download.cfm
This file gives error or downloads EXE and ZIP files:

Large CFSwitch or Switch in CFSCRIPT

2000-05-15 Thread Bill Killillay

Does anybody know which is faster when it executes. A Large tag based
normal CFSWITCH statement, or using CFSCRIPT and just using the Switch
syntax with in that? When I say large, I mean anything with over 5 cases in
them. I have some that reach as many as 18 or 20 or more. Any input would
be great. Please respond off list also as it seems to reach faster then
does the list sometimes. Thanks.

Form Wizards and too many buttons

2000-05-15 Thread Amy Steel

Hello, everyone. I'm pretty new to the ColdFusion world, so please forgive me if I
ask something that seems a little obvious. I'm still learning the ropes.

In the Feb 2000 issue of ColdFusion Journal, there's some code that creates some
killer form wizards. One problem, though. The WizForm.cfm custom tag that collects
info from "screen" to "screen" also includes the buttons (back, submit, next). This
is fine for a straight wizard, but I want to pass the info in a CFMail tag to an
e-mail that is stored in one of the form variables. I can get everything to work, but
when I send the info to the processing page where the CFMail tag is, it sends the mail
and shows the user a confirmation page - - - with a back, submit, and next button on
it! It's making me crazy. How do I get these buttons off of here.

Re: Advice on approach

2000-05-15 Thread John Allred

Thanks, Nick.

This makes sense, as it's probably simpler than trying to maintain two
sets of tables. However, there may be a downside: I have five templates,
plus a search form that look at these links. Four of them list all of
the links in various ways. For each, I would have to add the display
flag. Given that the number of links is likely to climb to nearly 10,000
at some point, do you think there would be a performance penalty?

Thanks so much for the opinion.

And as you mentioned you are running NT2k, in other words Windows 2000,
only CF4.5 has been tested with this, so if you using anything older, this

I don't know about CF support, but I hear that a lot of people are using
things like nCipher's products to do this. It is a hardware encryption
accelerator, which also has hardware based PKI.

I think that would be better than removable media.

Also, their cards are tamper resistant -- nothing cooler than seeing a PCI

A current client wants (against my recommendation) to store credit card
details so as to enable future purchases of customers to be more automated
(a subscription based system). Obviously this needs to be done in as secure
a manner as possible. I just wondered if anybody could give me some
pointers to proven ways of doing this in CF.

My thoughts would be to use some public key encryption system to encrypt
the sensitive data and then have the administrator supply the private key to
the CF application for the limited time that the data needs to be worked
with (perhaps on a per-access basis), I am advantaged by the fact that this
will be on a local server to the client and so the private key could be
stored on some removeable media (i.e disk) physically locked away from
prying eyes and only inserted into the server drive at the appropriate time.
Is there some way to employ strong public key encryption from within CF ?

  Better ideas ?

Thanks...

RE: Is there a way to get one template to stop the process of another template?

2000-05-15 Thread Lon Lentz

This was asked of me by someone else here. I believe their idea here is
to set up a few
templates which we could access remotely that would allow us to kill an
infinite loop or
server slaying count...without us having to drive back to do it on site.

No. The called template would have to stop processing on it's own. There's
no way for another template to "monitor" the action of another and
intervine. You would have to set some variable in the called template
which would cause it to stop running. This of course is not what you want
to do, but I don't see any alternative. If you tell me what you're trying
to accomplish maybe I could give you some ideas.

CF 4.5.x doesn't use that much by default; it depends on what you're doing,
and how much stuff you load into memory. For example, to enhance application
performance, you might decide to cache recordsets in CF. This is a good
thing, performance-wise, but if you do this, CF will have to store them in
memory. Likewise, some database drivers tend to require lots of memory to do
something, and afterwards, CF won't release the memory in the assumption
that it will be needed later. This isn't an issue, as long as there aren't
any memory leaks within CF or within any components used by CF. I'm fairly
confident that there aren't any memory leaks in CF itself; I've done a bit
of testing for that. I'm not confident about database components in general,
though.

As for Win2K, I can't say anything about how CF runs on it in a production
environment. I run it on my laptop, and it works fine, but I don't get that
much traffic on my laptop.

Okay, well that's completely unacceptable. I'm using CF 4.5 and I haven't
run one script since I rebooted, and it's using 15 megs of ram. I am also
going to be offering it in a shared hosting environment, and 180 megs of
unacceptable also. I checked MS' Site and they are having problems with
Win2k leaking memory in the first place and I tried to get the SP1 for 2k
but they are still in beta with it. It's got to be a mem leak because
homesite is using 22,000k and sql server hit 80,000k with VERY light usage.
If cf 4.5 uses that much memory by default, I'm going to have to switch back
to asp.

Re: Advice on approach

Hi John,

Personally, I'd have a StatusFlag on my Link Table. Let people submit
links directly to the Links table and set the StatusFlag to 0,
(Pending). Create yourself a password protected admin script that let's
you update the StatusFlag, then once the Links have been approved, set the
StatusFlag to 1 (Ok). The page on your site that lists the links then
only needs to query the records that have a StatusFlag = 1.

Advice on approach

2000-05-15 Thread John Allred

I accept submissions for links to be listed on one of my sites.
Originally, this was merely by E-mail. Then I set up a form, so I could
get as many fields filled in as possible and save some research time.
The form generated an E-mail to me and the sender.

Now, I'd like to have submitters enter the info directly in my database.
Should I let them enter it in my main tables, or should I create
separate tables and, once I approve the submissions, copy them to the
main tables?

If I do it the first way, I'd need to set up a flag to allow display,
once I've approved the submission. Any thoughts on the best way to do
this?

TIA,

Uploading SQL Server databases

2000-05-15 Thread James Sleeman

Hi all,
up to now I have had the pleasure of only needing to use Access databases for
our CF projects, however a possible upcoming task and at least one of the since much
larger completed tasks will soon require the power of a database server, at this point
in time, MS SQL Server.

Now we don't host locally (that is, we don't own or run our servers), and I am just
unsure of how the process for initially getting my SQL Server databases to the remote
server (FTP access) and then replacing them with newer versions as the development
progresses (I know, I know, get it right first time :-) ) and bringing down the active
ones once the (finished) application is up and public to maintain our local (internal)
copy.

Of course as far as Access went, I just upload the database file and tell our host to
setup a DSN for it, then I can just up/download it as I please with later versions -
but am I able to do this with the SQL server files, are there any pitfalls ?

Any advice appreciated...
James Sleeman

I think you're over complicating your business rules; if you store the

Storing Credit Card details securely

2000-05-15 Thread James Sleeman

A current client wants (against my recommendation) to store credit card details so as
to enable future purchases of customers to be more automated (a subscription based
system). Obviously this needs to be done in as secure a manner as possible. I just
wondered if anybody could give me some pointers to proven ways of doing this in CF.

My thoughts would be to use some public key encryption system to encrypt the
sensitive data and then have the administrator supply the private key to the CF
application for the limited time that the data needs to be worked with (perhaps on a
per-access basis), I am advantaged by the fact that this will be on a local server to
the client and so the private key could be stored on some removeable media (i.e disk)
physically locked away from prying eyes and only inserted into the server drive at the
appropriate time. Is there some way to employ strong public key encryption from
within CF ?

  Better ideas ?

Thanks...

calling a custom tag from another custom tag?

2000-05-15 Thread AKBAR

hello all,

is there a way to invoke another customtag from one custom tag?? i mean, i
am invoking a cutom tag which shows a list of all items and in that custom
tag, i am providing a edit button for all the items. this edit function is
again a custom tag. so how can i proceed with this?? is this viable?? is
there a security threat?? bcoz wat i feel is that i am not at all closing
the parent custom tag.

so any ideas?? has anyone tried to do similar thing??

thanx in advance
