RE: Problems with MX - Can anyone help please !!!

2003-11-12 Thread Ian Vaughan
I think Univers is by IBM

The steps below are what happens when trying to set up a datasource to
this database through Coldfusion.

Steps Involved.

1. Install ODBC Driver for Universe (IBM) -

2. Setup ODBC connection locally Control Panel/Administrative
Tools/Datasources ODBC -

3. In Coldfusion Administrator setup an ODBC connection using the system
DSN version you have created in step 2 above.

But when running the cfm page I am receiving the following error

Error Executing Database Query.
[MERANT][SequeLink JDBC Driver][ODBC
Socket][IBM][UVODBC][2301529]Invalid
argument value.

Even though in the Coldfusion Administrator the datasource verifies as
OK ?

I have MDAC 2.3 installed as im using MX 6.1 ?

Any other ideas??

TO be brutally honest I have never even heard of Univers. What
is the
	nearest likeminded database server?

Have you tried setting up the datasource manually (first -
before CF Admin)
through the ODBC wizard (Control Panel)? Alternatively using
ODBC socket?
Also you might try updating to the latest MDAC - 2.8 I think by
now - at

RE: OT:Transparent Div question.

Thanks Bryan,

Doesn't seem to make any difference though.
Could it be anything to do with the fact that the div1_txt div is within
another div (transcontainer div)?

It's quite annoying really as I have the whole thing sorted apart from this
one div issue, oh well one of those things I guess !

Hello All,

I've got a slideshow app,using data from a DB I build a series of
divs and
switch between them using JS and timeouts. (in a nutshell)
Everything works hunkey dorey except for one small problem with one of
the
Div's:

The page consists of a top blue bar (title and subtitle),bottom blue
bar
(generic contact info) and a middle area (content area - consisting of
a
table and an image).
The top and middle areas change with each cycle of the loop but
because the
page background is white I want to create a default top Div so that
the
different content top divs can be transparent and the change over of
div's
is smooth.

Basically I have tried setting the content top divs with
background:transparent; in the style and have played around with the
z-index
but, no matter what I try the default top div (the big blue bar)
covers up
all the content top Divs (blue bar with White and orange text)

Surely can't I setup something like:

div id=defaultTop style=background:darkblue;
/div

Not sure if this is going to help, but remember that the visibility property
still renders the container and hides its' content whereas the display
property when set to 'none', does not render the container.

Send me your rendered source code that is not working and I will try and
help..

email me off list.

RE: Flash Remoting question

2003-11-12 Thread Dave Watts
Are there any issues with having multiple installations of
flash remoting on the same server?

There can be, I think, but I have both the .NET and CFMX versions working on
my laptop. I know there's an issue if you install CFMX onto a J2EE server
that already has Flash Remoting (like JRun by default).

In my case, the .NET stuff and the CFMX stuff are on separate virtual
servers, and that works fine.

I have a CFC that handles all the checking, validating, etc...

When I put the cfloginuser tag inside the cfc and set its attributes it
works, however if I try and set properties within the cfc and then call the
getter functions to complete the cfloginuser tag, it does not work. I am
trying not to tie the cflogin stuff into the cfc so that I can use this in
other apps where we do not wish to use the built in role based security.

THIS WORKS (cfloginuser is insde the cfc)

cfoutput
	cflogin
		cfif NOT isDefined(cflogin)
			cfinclude template=form_login.cfm /
			cfabort
		cfelse
			cfif
objAuthentication.login(form.j_username,form.j_password) IS true
cflocation
url="" addtoken=No /
			cfelse
cfset request.message = Please, try
again. /
cfinclude template=form_login.cfm /
cfabort
			/cfif
		/cfif
	/cflogin
/cfoutput

THIS DOES NOT WORK (loginuser is not inside the cfc):

cfoutput
	cflogin
		cfif NOT isDefined(cflogin)
			cfinclude template=form_login.cfm /
			cfabort
		cfelse
			cfif
objAuthentication.login(form.j_username,form.j_password) IS true
cfloginuser

name=#objAuthentication.getUsername()#,#objAuthentication.getUserId()#

password=#objAuthentication.getPassword()#
	roles=ADMIN,GU /
cflocation
url="" addtoken=No /
			cfelse
cfset request.message = Please, try
again. /
cfinclude template=form_login.cfm /
cfabort
			/cfif
		/cfif
	/cflogin
/cfoutput

Why would one work and not the other?

Thanks,

Mike

converting workstation from CFMX 6.1 Standalone to Apache/CFMX 6.1

2003-11-12 Thread John Paul Ashenfelter
Folks,

I've got a (win2k) development box that has been running CFMX 6.1 =
standalone. I've customized the jrun-web.xml file a bit to add a few =
directory mappings and such, but basically it's just serving =
http://localhost:8500.

Problem is that I'd like to move it to Apache 2.048/CFMX6.1 for many, =
many reasons. I've got Apache up and running fine but having weird =
problems with CFMX 6.1 -- I've run the Apache_Connector.bat to modify =
Apache and the httpd.conf looks normal for CFMX 6.1, but while the CF =
templates run, the relative pathing is really messed up -- all the =
images disappear for example with bad links=20

I've got 3 production servers running Apache 2.048/CFMX 6.1 on Win2k in =
production, so I certainly have done the Apache/CFMX install before -- =
and I copied the virtual hosting section of one of those functional =
servers over to the development box (changing to appropraite IPs, =
virtual host names) so pretty confident *that* part of the configuration =
is right -- problem is with the Apache/CFMX integration, not Apache =
itself.

So basically the question it, should I just uninstall CFMX from the box =
and then reinstall it pointing to Apache or is there some instructions =
for manually setting up this scenario I've missed. I *have* noticed that =
the standalone install has a j2ee-web.xml file that my production =
servers do not, so guessing there's a few steps I've missed... Is there =
somewhere I can find the difference

RE: How to determine if a scheduled task is already running?

2003-11-12 Thread Haggerty, Mike
Um... perhaps I am missing something here, but the scheduler.log file
lists the name of the task and the result of running it.

Couldn't you either manually check to see if it is running, or else
write some script that checks to see when it was last run?

scheduled task is running?I'm using CFMX 6.1 on Win2K.

RE: Outputting an XML Object to browser

2003-11-12 Thread Jeff Beer
thanks to all who have replied.

I have it outputting now, and when I view the source it looks like an XML
document. However, in the browser, it's all one long string of text - I'd
like the browser to recognize it as xml.

Once again, I'm using cfsavecontent to wrap up the nodes, then outputting
with:

cfcontent type=text/xml reset=yes
CFOUTPUT#myDoc#/CFOUTPUT

Subject: RE: Outputting an XML Object to browser

I've created an XML object from a query (using CFSAVECONTENT)
and it CFDUMPs just fine. Now I simply need to output that
as XML to the browser (or calling application). I keep getting:

The XML page cannot be displayed
Cannot view XML input using style sheet. Please correct the error
and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.

Invalid at the top level of the document. Error processing resource

Here's the output code I'm using currently:

 (myDoc was created with CFSAVECONTENT)

 CFSETTING showdebugoutput=No
 cfcontent type=text/xml Reset=yes
 cfoutput#ToString(myDoc)#/cfoutput

I've also tried creating myDoc with CFXML - same error
 result, and I've tried this:

 cfset myXmlObj = XMLParse(myDoc)
 !--- cfdump var=#myxmlObj# ---
 CFSETTING showdebugoutput=No
 cfcontent type=text/xml Reset=yes cfoutput#myDoc#/cfoutput

I don't think you need to use ToString with something you create using
CFSAVECONTENT, although I don't see why it would screw things up either. I'd
recommend that you skip the CFSAVECONTENT, and use CFXML to create your
document, and use ToString to output your document.

Has anyone seen this before?I know only a few people would be running the

CFMX integration with virus scanners?

2003-11-12 Thread Howard Fore
Hi,

I'm working on an application where the users will frequently upload
document files from Word, Excel, Project, etc. through the HTTP Upload
method. IT is wondering how we can interface the application with a
virus scanning engine so that as soon as the file is saved to the
server, it will be scanned and dealt with. Does anyone have any
experience they could share about hooking a web app to such an engine?
I've looked at the Symantec Antivirus Scan Engine but not enough to
tell if it will do what we want. Also, the engine should run on Linux.

Thanks.

cfprocessingdirective and Unicode

2003-11-12 Thread Matt Robertson
Can anyone see a more efficient use of cfprocessingdirective than what I
describe here? This is my first try at implementation.I'm developing
strictly for MX 6.1, if that matters.

I'm using cfprocessingdirective pageEncoding=utf-8

Its my understanding this is technically redundant but making the
statement explicit is a best practice. Is that incorrect?

Presently I'm planning on plugging in the code in all files that either
a)output to the screen, b)interact with the db, c)interact with a file
stored on disk in utf-8 format or d)if form or url vars are being
processed.

The statement is to go in individually, one at a time, on every template
including includes and called modules.Am I overdoing it?

I am also doing cfcontent type=text/html; charset=utf-8 and using
setencoding on form and url vars, but will do these once in the app in
an include and application.cfm, respectively.

Any advice pro/con the above would be appreciated.

repair, virus-infected files from your ColdFusion environment. It is the

Have a database table that is appended to each time the task runs.
Have something reliable check the most recent entry, and do something if it's
over a day old or whatever.

Sooner or later you have to have a scheduler that you trust to run things
though :-)

We use Mon for this.

IIS4 FTP Service Does Not restart on server reboot

2003-11-12 Thread David Collie
POSTED ON CF-OT Yesterday... any takers?
I'm looking for a solution... I was thinking that if I can't fix it... what about a batch file that checks to see if the service is running and starts it if it is not?Anyone see any probs with that?

--- original message --

Hi there,

Can anybody give me pointers on this? With regards to NT4 Server, IIS4,
up to date with the major patches from MS

We have an old box that is used for static HTML pages and FTP service is
utilised to allow uploading for users to specific directories using NT
permissions.

We also have Perception Assessment software and the infrastructure
geezers tell me that this piece of software requires that the server be
restarted every morning to ensure that the software works correctly.

Thing is, every couple of days the FTP service (not the WWW service tho)
just fails to start and then of course the support calls start flooding
in, somebody's gotta run through and restart the service.

Which is getting annoying :-)

Had a look at the event viewer and there is nothing out of the ordinary
in there that doesn't happen every day due to the restart

Can anybody give me pointers on where to look/fix/boot to fix this
problem?

Cheers

Custom tag to see list of cached queries!

Hello,

I have written a CFX custom tag for CFMX, called cfx_queryCache, which allows you to get a list of all your cached queries and flush individual queries based on its key.

I'd be interested in any ideas for improvements, both functionality and improving the Java code. It's open-source and available from http://tamuri.cfdeveloper.co.uk/

Thanks,

Session and Client variable problems?

2003-11-12 Thread Schuster, Steven
Ok, here it goes...

I have one domain (call it IP 1.1.1.1)

On this domain I have multiple sites, but they use redirects...

So, we have sites

A, B, C

If you ping any of these sites you get IP 1.1.1.1 they simply route to
different directories based on the server_name variable.

Ok so that explains that.

Each of the separate sites have an Application page that is set up basically
with the code below. Each sites has the exact same info in the App.cfm file
except for some path stuff that I use.

cfapplication name=eProduct
clientmanagement=Yes
setclientcookies=Yes
sessionmanagement=yes

SESSIONTIMEOUT=#CreateTimeSpan(0,8,0,0)#

APPLICATIONTIMEOUT=#CreateTimeSpan(0,8,0,0)#
SETDOMAINCOOKIES=Yes

Ok, now on each of these sites you can order items. I do that with the code
below using a client variable.

cfset SC_cart = client. Attributes.Cart

So basically here is my problem

I want the cart to be globally available to all sites. I though setting my
domain cookie flag to yes would accomplish that but apparently in
conjunction with using client variables for my cart that is not the case.

Anyone got any ideas???

Thanks,
Stephen

JavaScript question

2003-11-12 Thread Eric Creese
I am writing a small database data dictionary app. Since the db has over 500 tables I created a small form at the top of the page where I can start to type in the first few letters of the tables and it will parse the list down of available tables to choose from. Once I get the table I want, I want to hit the go button and it will take me to the table definition lower in the page beneath the form. The parsing piece works, the problem I am having is trying to get the url to post correctly through the form to go down to the part in the page the data is.

Here is my code. any ideas?

RE: CFFILE Deletinng Files

2003-11-12 Thread Dave Watts
I'm getting an Access Denied Error. WHY please helpy. :)

Perhaps the CF server doesn't have permissiony to delete the file, or
perhaps the file is locky.

I'm sorry, I couldn't resist that. There are a lot of reasons why you might
not be able to delete a file, though. If CF is running as SYSTEM (on
Windows), it usually has rights to delete any file on the machine by
default, but if you've changed filesystem ACLs, that may not be true. So,
it's more likely that the file is locked. If you did anything to the file
within the same CF program, or if the file was requested by a browser, it
may well be locked. You can shorten this file locking time within IIS's
configuration. You might want to read this stuff:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;265279

You might also find it useful to post more details about what exactly you're
trying to do, and the environment in which you're trying to do it.

RE: Session and Client variable problems?

2003-11-12 Thread John Burns
I did this for a content management system for my clients.I wanted them to
be able to log in and edit the information on their site. Then, for my
convenience, I wanted to log in (once) and be able to just from site to site
and edit stuff without having to log in. Because of the domain/cookie issue,
what I did was create a separate domain that the people log into. For
instance, you might create cart.domain.com and have all of your different
carts point to that domain. Then they always stay on the same domain. Not
sure if that helps or meets your needs.

Has anyone seen this before?I know only a few people would be running the

Multiple Server Versions

2003-11-12 Thread Barney Boisvert
We've got a dev server running a few instances of CF for J2EE, and its great
for working on different CVS branches of our apps. However, now we need to
work on a couple apps that will be deployed to Standard servers. We'd like
to just leave everything on the same dev server, but I'm concerned about
potential screwups stemming from developing an application on the J2EE
version and deploying it on the Standard version.

That a baseless concern? If not, anyone have any clever ideas to have two
distinct installs of Standard on a single machine (aside from using
different Apache installs and different ports?).

We're running Apache2 on linux along with CF, if that matters at all.

TIA,

I've created an XML object from a query (using CFSAVECONTENT)
and it CFDUMPs just fine. Now I simply need to output that
as XML to the browser (or calling application). I keep getting:

The XML page cannot be displayed
Cannot view XML input using style sheet. Please correct the error

Here's the output code I'm using currently:

 (myDoc was created with CFSAVECONTENT)

 CFSETTING showdebugoutput=No
 cfcontent type=text/xml Reset=yes
 cfoutput#ToString(myDoc)#/cfoutput

I've also tried creating myDoc with CFXML - same error
 result, and I've tried this:

 cfset myXmlObj = XMLParse(myDoc)
 !--- cfdump var=#myxmlObj# ---
 CFSETTING showdebugoutput=No
 cfcontent type=text/xml Reset=yes cfoutput#myDoc#/cfoutput

I don't think you need to use ToString with something you create using
CFSAVECONTENT, although I don't see why it would screw things up either. I'd
recommend that you skip the CFSAVECONTENT, and use CFXML to create your
document, and use ToString to output your document.

setdomaincookies doesn't help you if you don't have a domain in play.numeric IPs don't count. :(

Found this out the hard way.Discovered my cfid and cftoken values were resetting themselves on every page view when I was working with setdomaincookies=yes in place prior to assigning a domain name. Now I develop without the setting and put it in only after a domain gets assigned to an IP.

Ghost variables

2003-11-12 Thread Venable, John
Hello All,

I have a very troubling issue with an application I wrote. I have a
tabbed interface to a job tracking application. When a user selects the
profile that they want to view or edit, I throw that profileID (pid) into
the session scope, then I duplicate the session scope into the request scope
for 'general' use so I don't have to worry about locking. Here's the code:

	cflock timeout=10 throwontimeout=no type=exclusive
scope=session
	cfset Session.pid = form.pid
	cfset Request.Ses = Duplicate(Session)
	/cflock

Now I have a user that says that he chooses a profile say profile 150, the
profile page displays correctly, but when he clicks on another tab, I have
one for enrollments, he will get the information for another profile, say
200. All I am doing on the enrollment page is a few queries with the where
clause: WHERE ProfileID = cfqueryparam value=#request.ses.pid#
cfsqltype=CF_SQL_SMALLINT

I cannot replicate his problem. It seems like it might be browser cahce
related, since the URL of the page remains the same and only the request
variable will be different. Does this make sense? How can I fix it?

Thanks

No you bring up a good point. Even though each install is separate, CPU
useage is still shared out and can't be isolated. If someone makes a
mistake (say an endless loop) on the dev side and it makes the CPU jump
up to 100% usage, the production sites are going to suffer.

Subject: _javascript_ question

I am writing a small database data dictionary app. Since the db has over 500
tables I created a small form at the top of the page where I can start to
type in the first few letters of the tables and it will parse the list down
of available tables to choose from. Once I get the table I want, I want to
hit the go button and it will take me to the table definition lower in the
page beneath the form. The parsing piece works, the problem I am having is
trying to get the url to post correctly through the form to go down to the
part in the page the data is.

Here is my code. any ideas?

RE: Odd db error

2003-11-12 Thread Nathan Strutz
It's a DataDirect 3.2 JDBC generic error. It happens under load. AFAIK,
Macromedia is looking at it.

Solving it is difficult...

First, make sure you've installed this patch:
http://www.macromedia.com/support/coldfusion/ts/documents/cfmx61_sqlserver_c
pu.htm

Second, check this thread on the CF forums to get instructions on how to
downgrade to the DataDirect 3.1 drivers (from CFMX 6.0) -- I didn't have
luck with this one:
http://webforums.macromedia.com/coldfusion/messageview.cfm?catid=6threadid=
684306

Third, you can use your vendor-specific drivers (for example SQL Server, use
Microsoft's JDBC driver), check this page for info:
http://www.macromedia.com/support/coldfusion/ts/documents/cfmx_config_mssql2
000.htm

OT - Scsi hd

2003-11-12 Thread Robert Orlini
Sorry this is OT, but it's only one of the few times I've asked.

I need to upgrade my server running CF. I have SCSI HD's and an Adaptec Array adapter. I installed the new HD and then one of the older larger HD's which I will put the OS (windows 200) on it. I setup the cd-rom as the boot and put the 2000 cd in it. However, the system boots, recognizes the HDs, the light comes on the cd but it then reboots and does not start the Server 2000 setup.

Did I explain enough or is there more to this than meets the eye?

Thanks as always and excuse the OT on this please.

RE: JavaScript question

2003-11-12 Thread Mosh Teitelbaum
Ah, whoops. That's what I get for not looking at all of the code.

OK, so first, you need to change your button from TYPE=submit to
TYPE=button and revise your goTo function as follows:

	function goTo() {
	 var selIdx = document.SearchForm.cbSearchSelect.selectedIndex;
	 location.hash =
document.SearchForm.cbSearchSelect.options[selIdx].value;
	}

The function was not being passed any parameter and it made reference to a
variable (number) that did not seem to exist. Also, it was not getting
the value of the currently selected select list option. The above code
corrects these problems.

Then, change your select list's OPTION code to only include the anchor name
and not the filename as in:

	cfoutput query=gettabs
		option value=#tablename##UCase(tablename)#/option
	/cfoutput

Hopefully this will work for you.If not, let me know what the next error
message is and we'll take it from there 8^).

Just use a WHERE clause in your QofQ, and you can effectively delete rows.

Robert,

Do you have the driver disk (probably a floppy) that came with the
Adaptec card?I am thinking that you will need to specify an additional
driver for the Adaptec card when you do the windows 2000 install.(Hit
F6 during the install when it tells you to.)

I seem to remember a server of mine momentary, when doing an install,
flashing to a BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death), then rebooting, if I did not
load the driver for my Adaptec card.

Sorry this is OT, but it's only one of the few times I've asked.

I need to upgrade my server running CF. I have SCSI HD's and an Adaptec
Array adapter. I installed the new HD and then one of the older larger
HD's which I will put the OS (windows 200) on it. I setup the cd-rom as
the boot and put the 2000 cd in it. However, the system boots,
recognizes the HDs, the light comes on the cd but it then reboots and
does not start the Server 2000 setup.

Did I explain enough or is there more to this than meets the eye?

Thanks as always and excuse the OT on this please.

RE: OT - Scsi hd

2003-11-12 Thread Schuster, Steven
When you install 2000 it will ask you for any 3rd part SCSI disks. It's a
quick screen message you may miss. To prompt for the disk you must press the
F6 key during this message. If you miss it the HD will not be recognized and
you'll have to reboot and try again.

It will ask you for the disk (floppy) or (cd) provided with your SCSI drive
when you purchased them. Just insert the disk, select the appropriate drive
and off you go.

If you do not have the disk then you are in bad luck unless you can get to a
PC/MAC get on the net and download one.

Import/Export - Excel to/from Access/SQL Server

2003-11-12 Thread Stan Winchester
I have a client who is running an ecommerce site with an Access database
backend, which will hopefully be upgraded, to SQL Server 2000 very soon.

The issue is he has 7,800 records in one table and 43,000 records in another
table; both tables will be doubling in size very shortly. My client wants to
do all of his data entry in Excel, and then do an import into his tables to
add new records, and edit/delete existing records. I had thought about doing
an import/export routine to/from an Excel file, but the export alone pegs
the server at 100% CPU for almost 25-30 seconds. I am interested in setting
up the most efficient method that will minimize the load on the server.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

We do this routinely by having the Excel file ftp'd to a known location and
then doing a DTS to import into the DB. You can also schedule a DTS to
export the Excel file and email to the client.

Hope this helps

RE: Import/Export - Excel to/from Access/SQL Server

2003-11-12 Thread Samuel Neff
I've been in the same situation except the client wanted to use Access and
not Excel (primary goal was custom reporting, not just
export/edit/re-import).

I used XML to transfer data from the web server to the client application.
I wrote server and client modules that each handled the appropriate
serialization and de-serialization.It's a lot of work, but it worked out
well and client was very happy in end.

Best Practices

2003-11-12 Thread Mickael
Hello,

I am in the middle of reworking an app and trying to eliminate many of the templates that were created by me (in my cut paste, make a new template days instead of making smarter templates)

What is have in essence are 6 reports that are practically the same the differences are they run the same queries on different tables, and update them as well.

Each page is a report is a self posting page that has reports that need to be checked off by the user as completed.

So now this is what I am trying to do.When the user clicks on the report I have appended ?Reportname=myreport to the link.

Now I have a case statement that uses #url.reportname# that will set all my variables for that page.Until now it is fine. The only problem that I am running into is when I try posting the page to itself to the the update (set the completed from 0 to 1) of course my reportname variable is non existant. What would be the most best way to do set up this? When I try to post the same page of course my URL.ReportName does not exist so my switch statement does not work.

Any pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Mike

OT: Joins in Excel?

2003-11-12 Thread Jim McAtee
I have a client with a small website run from an Access 2000 database. She's
requested a spreedsheet of the database whatever the hell that is.I
assume she's refering to the main table, which comprises the site membership.
Of course that table is normally joined with several others in the database,
such as membership type, etc.

I could write a CF script to join the tables and dynamically produce an Excel
spreedsheet that can be downloaded from the web server. But I was wondering
if I just cut and pasted several tables onto different worksheets in an Excel
file, can I do something like a join of the main worksheet with the others
in the same file?

Re:Import/Export - Excel to/from Access/SQL Server

2003-11-12 Thread Stan Winchester
Barney,

I agree if this was a one-time event, then I would probably proceed with a CF import/export to and from Excel to Access. The routine would actually be a regularly run on a regular basis.

Jim Gurfein suggested DTS to import/export, which sound like a viable solution, though my concern is data integrity. I'll setup data constraints when I build the SQL Server database, though I wonder if there is there a way to force data integrity in Excel?

Thanks, Stan

Comparing Values

Hey guys.I have a query that selects about 2,000 rows (by project id) from a table. Then I use those values to compare with the same table using another query (but from a different project ID.Any numbers that aren't the same are appended to a variable named error_list.I'm basically using a CLOOP query using the first query to loop over the second query. So it's basically like #firstquery.recordcount# loops and checking each value.

pseudo code

CFLOOP query=firstquery

CFQUERY name=secondquery
SELECT name
from images
where project_id = #url.id# AND name = #name#
/CFQUERY

CFIF secondquey.recordcount EQ 0
CFSET error_list = listappened(error_list, name)
/CFIF

/CFLOOP

CFOUTPUT#error_list#/CFOUTPUT

Right now, it takes like minutes to get results!Even if there's only 1 value in the list!Is there a better way to do what I am doing?Or some way to make it faster?Cos this is slow!Thankie!

RE: Comparing Values

2003-11-12 Thread Heald, Tim
Use valueList() to get a comma delimited list from the c=id column of the
first query then use IN in the second query

sorta like this:

cfset idList = valueList(firstQuery.idField)

cfquery name=secondQuery datasource=blah
 select columns
 from table
 where table.idField in (#valueList)
/cfquery

Should head you down towards a quicker solution. The other idea would be
to alias the table against itself and do a join against itself something
like:

cfquery name=getStuff datasource=blah
 select t.columns, ta.columns
 from table t, table ta
 where t.this = ta.this
OR
 where t.this != ta.this
/cfquery

Without knowing the table and the desired result though I am not sure if
this is what your looking for at all.

ReSolved: Comparing Values

2003-11-12 Thread brob
Using the IN thingy took less than 10 seconds vs. 2 or 3 minutes!Wow!I wonder why my way took so long! (well for one thing it was doing 2000+ queries) hehehe

Use valueList() to get a comma delimited list from the c=id column of the
first query then use IN in the second query

sorta like this:

cfset idList = valueList(firstQuery.idField)

cfquery name=secondQuery datasource=blah
select columns
from table
where table.idField in (#valueList)
/cfquery

Should head you down towards a quicker solution. The other idea would be
to alias the table against itself and do a join against itself something
like:

cfquery name=getStuff datasource=blah
select t.columns, ta.columns
from table t, table ta
where t.this = ta.this
 OR
where t.this != ta.this
/cfquery

Without knowing the table and the desired result though I am not sure if
this is what your looking for at all.

Subject: Comparing Values

Hey guys.I have a query that selects about 2,000 rows (by project id) from
a table. Then I use those values to compare with the same table using
another query (but from a different project ID.Any numbers that aren't the
same are appended to a variable named error_list.I'm basically using a
CLOOP query using the first query to loop over the second query. So it's
basically like #firstquery.recordcount# loops and checking each value.

pseudo code

CFLOOP query=firstquery

CFQUERY name=secondquery
SELECT name
from images
where project_id = #url.id# AND name = #name#
/CFQUERY

CFIF secondquey.recordcount EQ 0
CFSET error_list = listappened(error_list, name)
/CFIF

/CFLOOP

CFOUTPUT#error_list#/CFOUTPUT

Right now, it takes like minutes to get results!Even if there's only 1
value in the list!Is there a better way to do what I am doing?Or some
way to make it faster?Cos this is slow!Thankie!

But my form method is post not get wouldn't that cause
 that to fail?

I haven't followed the thread too closely, but if your question is whether
you can use URL parameters at the same time as form fields, you can. The URL
parameters get put into the HTTP request header, and the form fields get put
into the HTTP request body.

So, you could have a form like this:

form action="" method=post
input type=text name=foobar
...
/form

and in your action page, you could have code like this:

cfoutput
#URL.bar#br
#Form.foobar#
/cfoutput

Round and Format - Best Way?

2003-11-12 Thread Les Mizzell
If AOP.NET_PRICE equals #1256.98, I need to not only round it off to
1257:

#Round(AOP.NET_PRICE)#

.but also format the number to show the comma at the thousands

#NumberFormat()# doesn't round, so without a horrible nested mess,
what's the best way to get this:

RE: Round and Format - Best Way?

2003-11-12 Thread Barney Boisvert
You guessed it:

#numberFormat(round(AOP.NET_PRICE), ,)#

You could use a temp variable if you want, but that would be less readable,
in my opinion. The exception would be if you're using the rounded value
more than once, and it's not always going to be numberformatted (like in a
computation).then a temp variable makes sense.

cheers,

CFMail Send Problem

2003-11-12 Thread Mark Leder
Hi All,

I have a weird problem occuring with an email send out using CFMail 6.1 from
a SQL2000 db.Seems that SOME recipients of the message get a blank/empty
message body (subject line, to and from fields are OK).We've done some
checking and it doesn't seem to be email client specific (for example, I've
tested on Outlook 2002 and 2003 and AOL 9 with no problem, but we have
others using Netscape 7.1, Outlook 98-2000, et al receiving blank messages).

My thought is that there may be a problem with the charset encoding or with
the syntax of cfsavecontent.

Here's the process of what happens:

1) On the application.cfm page for the Admin area

!--- URL and FORM encoding ---
cfset setEncoding(FORM, ISO-8859-1)
cfset setEncoding(URL, ISO-8859-1)
!--- output encoding ---
cfcontent type=text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1

2) Message data from form field (enctype=multipart/form) insered to
MS-SQL2000

3) Query retrieves data from SQL 2000, in particular the
qMailMessage.txtMessage is the body of the message.

4) Message composition

cfoutput
cfsavecontent variable=VARIABLES.textCopy
#qMailMessage.txtMessage##crlf#
cfif qMailMessage.unsubscribeLinkID NEQ
1#Replace(qMailMessage.unsubscribeLinkText, Chr(10), #lf#,
ALL)##crlf#/cfif
cfif qMailMessage.signatureLineID NEQ
1#Replace(qMailMessage.signatureLineText, Chr(10), #lf#, ALL)#/cfif
/cfsavecontent
/cfoutput

5) Message sendout

!--- Send out to the subscribers ---
cfmail from=#VARIABLES.mailFrom# #VARIABLES.mailFromEmail#
	query=qSubscribers
	group=emailAddress
	groupcasesensitive=no
	to=#firstname# #lastname# #emailaddress#
	cc=#copyTo#
	bcc=#blindCopyTo#
	subject=#VARIABLES.subjectLine#
	failto=#VARIABLES.mailFailTo#
	server=#REQUEST.mailserver#
cfmailpart type=text#VARIABLES.textCopy#/cfmailpart
cfmailparam name=Reply-To value=#VARIABLES.mailFrom#
#VARIABLES.mailFromEmail#
cfmailparam name=Message-ID
value=#CreateUUID()[EMAIL PROTECTED]
/cfmail

===

Remember that in CFMX 6.1 the post method has been deprecated. As a result
you do not need to use the method attribute as it defaults to post anyway.

You would still require it for get and in my opinion it is good coding
practice to still use the method=post attribute when writng your code for
legibility at least.

RE: Best Practices

2003-11-12 Thread Andy Ousterhout
If the user always has to click on a button to move to the next step, you may
wish to place the reports needed in a hidden form variable rather then in a
URL variable. You may find that this increases the clarity of the code,
especially when someone has to come back to the page at a later date.

Subject: Best Practices

Hello,

I am in the middle of reworking an app and trying to eliminate many of the
templates that were created by me (in my cut paste, make a new template days
instead of making smarter templates)

What is have in essence are 6 reports that are practically the same the
differences are they run the same queries on different tables, and update them
as well.

Each page is a report is a self posting page that has reports that need to
be checked off by the user as completed.

So now this is what I am trying to do.When the user clicks on the report I
have appended ?Reportname=myreport to the link.

Now I have a case statement that uses #url.reportname# that will set all my
variables for that page.Until now it is fine. The only problem that I am
running into is when I try posting the page to itself to the the update (set
the completed from 0 to 1) of course my reportname variable is non existant.
What would be the most best way to do set up this? When I try to post the
same page of course my URL.ReportName does not exist so my switch statement
does not work.

Any pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Mike

Network

2003-11-12 Thread brob
Hey guys, right now we have an app that allows our people to view files (intranet app), and tag them (tagging the ones with a document number on the top). We're viewing like 70+ tiff images a minute. It is fine when one user is hitting the server. But when we get 5 people to hit the server, it frequently takes a bit longer for each image to show up. We can't have that, as this guy can tag anywhere from 70 to 85 images a minute.

The images vary from 50k to 200k in size, and i am confused why that would slow down the network I thought a closed network in general is pretty fast.Is there any way to speed up the network?right now we use a 10/100mbps hub.and also i am wonderin how do u know if your network is running at 10mbps or 100mbps??

Or maybe it would help if we got a faster hard drive?right now it's a 7200rpm would it help to get a scsi hard drive, in terms of spitting out an image to the network?

Thankie!

70 to 85 200 k images per minute? I think you are maxing out your network
bandwidth.

Ever consider converting them to jpeg format (compressed) to reduce file size
and thus bandwidth requirement?

To find out what a particular node speed is, mouse over the network icon in the
system tray

Remember that in CFMX 6.1 the post method has been

This isn't the case. POST and GET are ways to make HTTP requests, and CFMX
can't deprecate them - it has nothing to do with how the browser sends data
to the server.

If you're referring to the CFFORM tag, which generates an HTML form for you,
it will always generate a form with METHOD=POST, but this doesn't mean
anything has been deprecated - this has always been the case with CFFORM, as
far as I can recall.
