right then and there u dont but im assuming u want to actually dispaly the resulting
data in somewhat or any kind of a viewable format
[quote]com.bluefinger.mediator.getMeA()[/quote]
looks pretty crappy on a screen by itself and 99.9% of the page viewers will have no
idea what it even means,

but if ur writing

div id=content
 !--- navbar to the right side of main content 20px ---
 ul
  li#datafrom.com.bluefinger.mediator.getMeA()#/li
 /ul
/div

then position it with css

if ur good enough to position everything without looking, then i bow at your feet

but i look at bluefinger.com and it doesnt validate so u must not use that anyways

what i say i do is that im starting to use the forward thinking style of sites and use
them without tables or frames(which i would never use anyways), make them accessable
to everyone.
and maybe if u were really good u could do it without looking but most of us will
never be there.

if all u write is the cfm code then give it to a designer then of course u dont need
it, thats just basic common sense but some ppl do more than just writing cfm code

:)

Nothing to do with me, and neither is greatbigblue.com :-p

same as what i am saying, i like dreamweaver cause i use both views where as eclipse
doesnt have that, i dont see why u r thinking that only translates to backend code
cause it doesnt 7 thats what i am saying

Verity not installed?

2004-11-02 Thread Andrew Dixon
Hi Everyone.

I have just installed a new system with CFMX6.1 on a Linux (done it
lots of time before) and it all installed ok. I then started to do
some configuration for my application in CF Admin and when I got to
the bit to set up Verity collections I clicked the 'Verity
Collections' click on the right and in the window on the left, instead
of showing me the collections interface it says:

You must configure your application server to enable Verity. For
instructions, see Installing and Using ColdFusion MX.

I have never had this before and I have looked the the Installing and
Using ColdFusion MX document on the MM website and I can't see any
mention of this.

Anyone have any ideas what is going on and how I can fix the problem?

Best Regards

Andrew.

Ah yes, but that won't push the td out if its in a valid a href tag
and I would hope that it would be anchored to a meaningful bit of text
eg. Resource Bundle CFC, which should wrap nicely, as long as the td
isn't like 10 pixels wide or something silly like that.

Does anyone know of a good way to make sure that long text doesn't stretch a table
cell?
[snip]
Anyone have a simple solution?

Will, your best solution is probably moderators and administrators, but
failing that *Antidisestablishmentarianism is the longest word in
English at 28 characters, if you discount medical and chemical names
(which are generally Latin anyway), so you could always dump anything
over 28 characters and call the user rude names at the same time. Of
course this will only work if the text doesn't have html in it.

Hope that helps

Each log file has an archive button in the CF Administrator. Just press
that and the log will be renamed with a number appended to the end.

Data Migration Suggestion

2004-11-02 Thread C. Hatton Humphrey
I'm working out the logistics of moving a site to a new server and
need some advice.

The current server is going to stay active and has a MS Access
datasource (outside of my control) that my application reads from. I
need to be able to replicate this data into a MySQL database on a
scheduled basis since my application will no longer be on the server
that holds the Access database.

My thought is to create a page on the old server that can dump out
the data I need in some format - need suggestions on this first. Then
I can create a scheduled task on the new server to make a HTTP call to
the dump page to grab the data. Since the data in question is date
driven the pickup page would pass a date field for start and a date
field for end.

I think I have the concept correct - MX is installed so could I do
this as a web service, and if so could someone point me to a tutorial?
 This doesn't need to be rocket science, I only have two days to
implement this change but I can tweak it later. Suggestions?

Thanks!
Hatton

Yep, this is possible...Just archive through the CFAdmin (the archive icon).

Or, go to the directory and move the files to the directory of your choosing.

Re: Problem with Session Variables timing out

2004-11-02 Thread Doug James
The value set in CF Admin is the maximum time a session variable will be
alive. If you need 60 minute session, you have to set CF Admin to 60 min
and cfapplication to 60 min.

Doug

Larry White wrote:

There's also a maximum allowed session timeout inn CF admib, besides the default
value. What's that set to? All sessions for a given user
should expire at the same time.

Hi, all...

I've got a security system that allows teachers to log in
to a Site Manager which sets a Session.User_ID variable for them,
then the database is queried to see if they have a classroom site,
and, if so, a Session.Classroom_ID variable is established to allow them
access to their classroom site.

I'm having problems with the Session variables timing out after 20 minutes,
although I've set the SessionTimeOut variable in the CFAPPLICATION tag
(there's only one Application.cfm page) to 60 minutes using
SessionTimeOut=#CreateTimeSpan(0,0,60,0)#

Any idea why that wouldn't override the 20 minute timeout default in the
CF Administrator?

And wouldn't the SessionTimeOut affect all session variables...in this case
Session.User_ID and Session.Classroom_ID?

CF 4.5.2 / Windows 2000 Server

Thanks,

Rick

Re: Verity not installed?

2004-11-02 Thread JT News
I have CFMX 6.1 on FC2 at my office...I will try to recreate this
issue (haven't done any verity on it yet). Unfortunately gmail is
blocked on the network there, so I won't be able to post any further
on this for a bit. I will let you know ASAP though...

I do have CFMX 6.1 on RHEL3 using Verity without any issues...not sure
why it would be different on FC2.

RE: Verity not installed?

2004-11-02 Thread Dave Wilson
 I have just installed a new system with CFMX6.1 on a Linux (done it
 lots of time before) and it all installed ok. I then started to do
 some configuration for my application in CF Admin and when I got to
 the bit to set up Verity collections I clicked the 'Verity
 Collections' click on the right and in the window on the left, instead
 of showing me the collections interface it says:

 You must configure your application server to enable Verity. For
 instructions, see Installing and Using ColdFusion MX.

Andrew,

What flavour of Linux are you running? Macromedia only support Verity on a
small number of distributions. As I'm running Debian and don't use Verity
I'm not 100% sure which distributions are supported, however I *think* RH
and Fedora are supported. AFAIK there are slightly different ways of
activating Verity on each distribution. Though not supported by Macromedia,
Verity can be enabled on Debian also.

The following may help you - snipped from cf-linux mailing list

When verity is not enable, this is because the system can not load the
libCFXNeo.so.
This was my case , trying to intall CFX6.1 in Debian
I search for what dependencies this .so file need (using ldd) and found
that  libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2 was missing.

So I found the .deb package that has this file, install it, and the verity
could be enable at my debian system.

The package can be found here :

http://packages.debian.org/stable/oldlibs/libstdc++2.9-glibc2.1

Word 2003 and CF 5

2004-11-02 Thread Jason Reichenbach
Has anyone used CF5 to access MS Word 2003 objects? All was fine with
2000, but now none of the properties seem to work.

The following example results in the Range, Close and Count
properties/methods not being found:

CFOBJECT TYPE=COM
NAME=objWord
CLASS=Word.Application
ACTION=Create

CFSCRIPT
 /* This returns the 'Documents' collection of the Word object */
objDoc = objWord.Documents; /* Specify a document to open */
newDoc = objDoc.open(c:\jellystone\tempdir\bs7.txt);
actDoc = newDoc.application;
objActDoc = actDoc.ActiveDocument;
objWords = objActDoc.Paragraphs;
docRange = objWords.Range();
docRangeText = docRange.Text;
/* Close Object actDoc.Close();*/
/* Quit Word */
objWord.Quit();
writeoutput(Here we are:objWords.count);
/CFSCRIPT

Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

 since there are no spaces in this text it will stretch the table to

 would never work right.

Well I would love to not worry about it. If there is no good solution then
I wont but I will at least try. I need to do something, the best solutions
would be to be able to force a wrap. Otherwise I will just put a space
after every 28th character in a long string.

If its someone using a CMS system saying look, i can break you design

 This is going to sound like rookie question but...

 Does anyone know of a good way to make sure that long text doesn't
 stretch a
 table cell?

 Example

 table width=100

tdfff

 f
 ff/td
  /tr
 /table

 since there are no spaces in this text it will stretch the table to
 accommodate. I don't want to count chars and do this with code

 would never work right.

Bryan,
There is no HTML table element that will do what you
want, force a wrap in the middle of a word.

Your only hope would be to find something with the
style/CSS layout language that you could apply to
the cell.

I don't know CSS well enough to provide any answers,
but I do feel that nothing _else_ will solve your
problems. (Given that you've already said you
don't want to do with code/algorithms.)

Still hunting for Newsletter system...

2004-11-02 Thread Bailey, Neal
Hello all...

Well I am still on the Hunt for a good eNewsletter Application. I have found
several that will do the job but the one big problem I keep running into is
the pricing and reporting. We have over 1.7 million emails and growing and
we need to port from our current newsletter system to a better one. It seems
most good systems want to charge you by how many email records you have
stored in the database. So the cost gets pretty high and so far it seems for
a million records it would cost between $8K to $14K.

The big things I need to have the system do are:

1) Handle Multipart message, Html/text or mixed mode.
2) Large email storage on MSSQL
3) I don't care what language it's in
4) The most important thing is reporting. We need to know click through
rate, what links were clicked the most, how many bounces etc.

I am looking at the 2simplifi, E-mail Contact Pro system and it seems ok. It
does not have a lot of reporting but it may work. I was wondering if anyone
here has used this before or could recommend something better.

Even though we have over a million records we only send about 10,000 to
20,000 emails at a time. So if the email system has a limit on how many
messages it will send at once rather then how many are stored this would
work for us.

Thanks...

SOT: Javascript Type Ahead Script

2004-11-02 Thread Deanna Schneider
I'm working on an index like in those Microsoft products - where a series
of topics are listed and when you type you find the one you're looking for.
I've found a type ahead javascript that nearly does everything I want. But,
it chokes on spaces. I've looked at it and so has my colleague, and we can't
figure out why it chokes on spaces. Anyone else?

The script:

function autoComplete (field, select, property, forcematch) {
 var found = false;
 for (var i = 0; i  select.options.length; i++) {
 if
(select.options[i][property].toUpperCase().indexOf(field.value.toUpperCase())
== 0) {
  found=true; break;
  }
 }
 if (found) { select.selectedIndex = i; }
 else { select.selectedIndex = -1; }
 if (field.createTextRange) {
  if (forcematch  !found) {
   field.value=field.value.substring(0,field.value.length-1);
   return;
   }
  var cursorKeys =8;46;37;38;39;40;33;34;35;36;45;;
  if (cursorKeys.indexOf(event.keyCode+;) == -1) {
   var r1 = field.createTextRange();
   var oldValue = r1.text;
   var newValue = found ? select.options[i][property] : oldValue;
   if (newValue != field.value) {
field.value = newValue;
var rNew = field.createTextRange();
rNew.moveStart('character', oldValue.length) ;
rNew.select();
}
   }
  }
 }

//

The form code:
FORM action= method=POST id=form1 name=form1

Re: Logging all users actions...

2004-11-02 Thread Matt Robertson
I wrote my own after not liking the limitations of CFLog. I have a
project where the client, a government agency, requires *detail* in
spades. Stuff like this can take up a LOT of space. You will need a
clbo/ntext/longtext field to store it all and be sure of no problems.

I generate a table in a loop rather than using a cfdump as it results
in much more compact html and storage. Plus you can write in
exceptions for things like passwords which is a nasty security hole if
you let it store those.

The use of evaluate() there is a bad habit, I know. Rather than just
allowing a dump of the form scope into the db (which allows you to
pick apart exactly what the user entered) you can dump the form scope
and/or selected others by creating your own tailored data dump outside
the tag and feeding that in via the datadump parameter.

I use gridMonger to display the data in Expanded mode, which lets me
view data in columnar format, sort it on any column, search for
specific items and view details in full screen.

The UseDB parameter comes into play if the db is Oracle (a value of
4) and I have to plug in a sequence value. Code is below.

Cheers,

Re: OT: Sql Server 2005 Express

2004-11-02 Thread Matt Robertson
Why? Because there's no gui yet?

I'm setting up a new server this weekend and am planning on plugging
in and playing with MSDE, which apparently has a GUI now and does not
have the single-processor limit. I have MSDE running elsewhere but as
something plugged in by a 3rd-party app (LiveStats). Never tried to
use it in production.

Well if the longest word in the English language is 28 chars... Then I will
just insert a space after every 28th char in all strings(words) longer that
28 chars The test will wrap naturally. It wont matter about font sizes.

SQL for Access Help Needed

2004-11-02 Thread Donna French
I'm working on a small app using CFMX and an Access db having
trouble with some SQL that I believe should work.

Here's the code:

SELECT *
FROM Clients
WHERE Client_IntakeDate BETWEEN '10/1/2004' AND '10/31/2004'

It started as a much larger query but I've taken bit by bit away and
this is where it seems to hang up. Am I having a brainfart or
shouldn't this work?

TIA,
Donna

What's the problem? Is it that records on 10/31 are not being returned? If so, it
could be that the field is actually a date time field, and 10/31/2004 is
10/31/2004 00:00, and you may want to use 11/1/2004 as the upper bound. Or not.

Yeah, we use XMLSpy Home Edition in our ColdFusion MX Master Class to teach

We also license another useful XML product called Xselerator, which we use

Re: mod command to alter row color

2004-11-02 Thread Jim McAtee
I generally start by setting up two CSS classes, with similar names ending
in 0/1.

style type=text/css
tr.rowstyle1 {
  background-color: #ff;
  }
tr.rowstyle0 {
  background-color: #e0e0e0;
  }
/style
cfoutput
cfloop query=somequery
  tr class=rowstyle#Evaluate('somequery.currentrow mod 2')#
...
  /tr
/cfloop
/cfoutput

Or you can use IIf() if not using CSS:

cfoutput
cfloop query=somequery
  tr background=#IIf(somequery.currentrow mod 2, DE('##ff'),
DE('##e0e0e0'))#
...
  /tr
/cfloop
/cfoutput

This only works in CFMX. But you could use another function for numeric
values (like val())

 Get rid of that evaluate, it's unneeded:

 style
 tr.alt1 { background-color: #fff; }
 tr.alt0 { background-color: #ffc; }
 /style
 cfoutput
 table
 cfloop query=myQuery
   tr class=alt#currentRow MOD 2#
 ...
   /tr
 /cfloop
 /table
 /cfoutput

Re: mod command to alter row color

2004-11-02 Thread Matt Robertson
Two more ways to skin this cat. First a real old one

tr bgcolor=#iif(GetData.CurrentRow MOD 2, DE(variables.RowColor1),
DE(variables.RowColor2))#

and what I use now. Store the row colors in a var in application.cfm
or something:
my.RowColors=##EDEDED,##FBFBFB;

and then use this in the table:
tr bgcolor=#listgetat(my.RowColors,(GetData.CurrentRow MOD 2)+1)#

No clue as to their relative efficiency to other things posted here.
I suppose the second method could accomodate more than two colors
without difficulty. Just add one to the var and change the MOD
factor.

Thank you.

One question, in this part of the code: cfloop from=1 to=10 index=i

How would I make it infinite? I don't want it to end at the 10th row?

Re: SQL for Access Help Needed

2004-11-02 Thread Donna French
okay, since i have you guys brains for a minute or two can i run this
past you all and see if it should work...

the whole query i'm working on is for a reporting tool and here's the
pseudocode/cf code i've come up with so far:

SELECT *
FROM Clients
WHERE Client_IntakeDate = cfqueryparam value=10/1/2004
cfsqltype=cf_sql_date
AND
Client_IntakeDate = cfqueryparam value=10/31/2004 cfsqltype=cf_sql_date,
#FORM.Param1# = #FORM.Param1Val#,
#FORM.Param2# = #FORM.Param2Val#
cfif #FORM.Param3# GT 0
, #FORM.Param3# = #FORM.Param3Val#
cfelse
;
/cfif

I'm still trying to figure out the best way to build the output but
what I'm considering is using CFCASE/CFSWITCH to determine which field
(Param1, etc.) in the db is being called, then the actual value of
that field (Param1Val, etc.).

The actual HTML page is online if you are thoroughly confused by my
post to help you see what I'm trying to accomplish:

http://www.dgfrenchdesigns.com/wdv/reportingTest.cfm

THANK YOU ALL !!!

~ Donna

P.S.
I'll be adding CFQUERYPARAM to the query before I test it and start
begging for help!!! ;-)

Documentation and examples seems to be very minimal.

The latest version of Tracking-Tools (http://tracking-tools.com) uses Mach-II. I host
the site http://mach-ii.info which has a list of other (big) sites using Mach-II. The
list is http://mach-ii.info/index.cfm?event=resources
There is also a Mach-II Exchange with sample code and plugins/filters.

b) use client scope

note that if you use client scope, you can't store complex variables

scheduled tasks and the time change

2004-11-02 Thread JB McMichael
So this is the second time this has happened this year, because its
the second time change we have had.

CFMX 6.1 on Win2003 server. When the time change happens, one of my
scheduled tasks stops running. It is a daily task, that runs every 4
hours between 7:30 am and 11:59pm. Before the time change, no
problems, runs when its supposed to. After the time change it just
never runs. The last time this happened I had to delete and recreate
the task. I am trying to avoid that this time. Anyone know of how I
can get this task to start running again on its own, and to prevent
this from happening again in April?

Don't do it in CF, use CSS and javascript and ship it off to the
