right then and there u dont but im assuming u want to actually dispaly the resulting data in somewhat or any kind of a viewable format
com.bluefinger.mediator.getMeA()
looks pretty crappy on a screen by itself and 99.9% of the page viewers will have no idea what it even means, but if ur writing div id=content !--- navbar to the right side of main content 20px --- ul li#datafrom.com.bluefinger.mediator.getMeA()#/li /ul /div then position it with css if ur good enough to position everything without looking, then i bow at your feet but i look at bluefinger.com and it doesnt validate so u must not use that anyways what i say i do is that im starting to use the forward thinking style of sites and use them without tables or frames(which i would never use anyways), make them accessable to everyone. and maybe if u were really good u could do it without looking but most of us will never be there. if all u write is the cfm code then give it to a designer then of course u dont need it, thats just basic common sense but some ppl do more than just writing cfm code :) -- Original Message -- From: Thomas Chiverton Reply-To: Date: Tue, 2 Nov 2004 09:55:16 + On Tuesday 02 Nov 2004 04:15 am, dave wrote:
I'd argue that you shouldn't be desiging or working on the two halves (front end presentation, backend gubbins) at the same time, certainly in a project of any size or complexity.
thats not really true, if ur making forward thinking or compatible websites u really need to be able too see the positioning Why do I need to be able to see the positioning of something when I'm half way through writing com.bluefinger.mediator.getMeA() ? -- Tom Chiverton Advanced ColdFusion Programmer Tel: +44(0)1749 834997 email: BlueFinger Limited Underwood Business Park Wookey Hole Road, WELLS. Verity not installed?
Hi Everyone. I have just installed a new system with CFMX6.1 on a Linux (done it lots of time before) and it all installed ok. I then started to do some configuration for my application in CF Admin and when I got to the bit to set up Verity collections I clicked the 'Verity Collections' click on the right and in the window on the left, instead of showing me the collections interface it says: You must configure your application server to enable Verity. For instructions, see Installing and Using ColdFusion MX. I have never had this before and I have looked the the Installing and Using ColdFusion MX document on the MM website and I can't see any mention of this. Anyone have any ideas what is going on and how I can fix the problem? Data Migration Suggestion
I'm working out the logistics of moving a site to a new server and need some advice. The current server is going to stay active and has a MS Access datasource (outside of my control) that my application reads from. I need to be able to replicate this data into a MySQL database on a scheduled basis since my application will no longer be on the server that holds the Access database. My thought is to create a page on the old server that can dump out the data I need in some format - need suggestions on this first. Then I can create a scheduled task on the new server to make a HTTP call to the dump page to grab the data. Since the data in question is date driven the pickup page would pass a date field for start and a date field for end. I think I have the concept correct - MX is installed so could I do this as a web service, and if so could someone point me to a tutorial? This doesn't need to be rocket science, I only have two days to implement this change but I can tweak it later. Suggestions? Thanks! Re: Verity not installed?
I have CFMX 6.1 on FC2 at my office...I will try to recreate this issue (haven't done any verity on it yet). Unfortunately gmail is blocked on the network there, so I won't be able to post any further on this for a bit. I will let you know ASAP though... I do have CFMX 6.1 on RHEL3 using Verity without any issues...not sure why it would be different on FC2. -Josh -- Exciteworks, Inc Expert Hosting for less! *Ask for a free 30 day trial!* http://exciteworks.com Plans starting at -$12.95- including MS SQL Server! ~| The annual ColdFusion User Conference is being held Sat 6/26 - Sun 6/27/04 8am-5pm in the Washington DC Area. http://www.houseoffusion.com/banners/view.cfm?bannerid=44 Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:4:183118 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/4 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:4 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.4 Donations Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
RE: Verity not installed?
I have just installed a new system with CFMX6.1 on a Linux (done it lots of time before) and it all installed ok. I then started to do some configuration for my application in CF Admin and when I got to the bit to set up Verity collections I clicked the 'Verity Collections' click on the right and in the window on the left, instead of showing me the collections interface it says: You must configure your application server to enable Verity. For instructions, see Installing and Using ColdFusion MX. Andrew, What flavour of Linux are you running? Macromedia only support Verity on a small number of distributions. As I'm running Debian and don't use Verity I'm not 100% sure which distributions are supported, however I *think* RH and Fedora are supported. AFAIK there are slightly different ways of activating Verity on each distribution. Though not supported by Macromedia, Verity can be enabled on Debian also. The following may help you - snipped from cf-linux mailing list When verity is not enable, this is because the system can not load the libCFXNeo.so. This was my case , trying to intall CFX6.1 in Debian I search for what dependencies this .so file need (using ldd) and found that libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2 was missing. So I found the .deb package that has this file, install it, and the verity could be enable at my debian system. The package can be found here : http://packages.debian.org/stable/oldlibs/libstdc++2.9-glibc2.1 ~| Sams Teach Yourself Regular Expressions in 10 Minutes by Ben Forta http://www.houseoffusion.com/banners/view.cfm?bannerid=40 Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:4:183119 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/4 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:4 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.4 Donations Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54

Well I would love to not worry about it. If there is no good solution then I wont but I will at least try. I need to do something, the best solutions would be to be able to force a wrap. Still hunting for Newsletter system...
Hello all... Well I am still on the Hunt for a good eNewsletter Application. I have found several that will do the job but the one big problem I keep running into is the pricing and reporting. We have over 1.7 million emails and growing and we need to port from our current newsletter system to a better one. It seems most good systems want to charge you by how many email records you have stored in the database. So the cost gets pretty high and so far it seems for a million records it would cost between $8K to $14K. The big things I need to have the system do are: 1) Handle Multipart message, Html/text or mixed mode. 2) Large email storage on MSSQL 3) I don't care what language it's in 4) The most important thing is reporting. We need to know click through rate, what links were clicked the most, how many bounces etc. I am looking at the 2simplifi, E-mail Contact Pro system and it seems ok. It does not have a lot of reporting but it may work. I was wondering if anyone here has used this before or could recommend something better. Even though we have over a million records we only send about 10,000 to 20,000 emails at a time. So if the email system has a limit on how many messages it will send at once rather then how many are stored this would work for us. Thanks... Re: Logging all users actions...
I wrote my own after not liking the limitations of CFLog. I have a project where the client, a government agency, requires *detail* in spades. Stuff like this can take up a LOT of space. You will need a clbo/ntext/longtext field to store it all and be sure of no problems. I generate a table in a loop rather than using a cfdump as it results in much more compact html and storage. Plus you can write in exceptions for things like passwords which is a nasty security hole if you let it store those. The use of evaluate() there is a bad habit, I know. Rather than just allowing a dump of the form scope into the db (which allows you to pick apart exactly what the user entered) you can dump the form scope and/or selected others by creating your own tailored data dump outside the tag and feeding that in via the datadump parameter. I use gridMonger to display the data in Expanded mode, which lets me view data in columnar format, sort it on any column, search for specific items and view details in full screen. The UseDB parameter comes into play if the db is Oracle (a value of 4) and I have to plug in a sequence value. Code is below. Re: Altova have a free XML editor!
Yeah, we use XMLSpy Home Edition in our ColdFusion MX Master Class to teach the XML portions of the class, and it's really useful for basic XML work, too. We also license another useful XML product called Xselerator, which we use for our actual production work. Also worth a look if your budget's between $100 - $200. Re: Split ouptut to MULTIPLIE sheets in Excel.
If you are using a fairly recent version of Excel, you can format your data as XML and Excel can read that in. Create a dummy file in Excel and export it as XML for the syntax. I have some reports that have a requirement of being in Excel format. However, the returned datasets have the ability to be more than 65,000 records. Re: mod command to alter row color
Two more ways to skin this cat. First a real old one tr bgcolor=#iif(GetData.CurrentRow MOD 2, DE(variables.RowColor1), DE(variables.RowColor2))# and what I use now. Store the row colors in a var in application.cfm or something: my.RowColors=##EDEDED,##FBFBFB; and then use this in the table: tr bgcolor=#listgetat(my.RowColors,(GetData.CurrentRow MOD 2)+1)# No clue as to their relative efficiency to other things posted here. I suppose the second method could accomodate more than two colors without difficulty.
