Check the CGI.HTTP_REFERER variable for a referring URL. This will only work
if the client doesn't use a software firewall that stops this variable from
being sent.

JVM - 64 bit support

2005-04-11 Thread Yves Arsenault
Hello,

Is anyone using ColdFusion 7 in a production environment with 64 bit systems?

It is my understanding that in order to do this, I would have to use
version 1.5 Java to accomplish this, but according to this:
http://www.macromedia.com/software/coldfusion/productinfo/systemreqs/#coldfusion

It is not listed as a supported version (only 1.4 is listed).

Anyone using 1.5?

Thanks Tony,

Just as I saw your post I was checking out his blog

He mentions that there are some issues with JRE 1.5 ... So that does
seem to answer my question.

But, I'm wondering if I should purchase a 64 bit system and run the
1.4 JRE until the issues are worked out with 1.5 and then upgrade to
it... As it all seemed to work.

That stills prompts to wonder what that would be like in production

First off, are you looking at an Athlon64/Opteron (x86-64), Pentium4 or
Itanium system? It makes a difference. The Itanium is really bad for
32bit software support whereas the others work just fine.

If you haven't bought the system itself, I suggest aiming for something
with the Nvidia nForce Professional chipset, it gives some serious I/O
muscle.

Re: CF for J2EE vs. BlueDragon

2005-04-11 Thread charles arehart
Bryan, there are a couple of key points in that statement. First, the main
point being made about native integration with J2EE and .NET being available
only with BlueDragon is the reference to *both* J2EE and .NET. CFMX has no
native integration with .NET. Sure, you can call web services from CFML in CFMX
(and you can run CFMX on a server with the .NET Framework installed), but
that's it.

That doesn't make it natively integrated. The .NET edition of BlueDragon truly
is a native .NET implementation of a CFML engine making your CFML pages not
only run alongside ASP.NET pages (without any BD Server) but more important
they are processed like ASPX pages (in the same pipeline) providing many new
features to your CFML (access to .NET controls like grids and calendars,
powerful internationalization, enhanced mobile device support, enhanced
caching, session persistence across restarts, and more.) You can also call .NET
objects from CFML, call CFCs from ASP.NET, treat cfquery results like .NET
datatables and vice-versa, include CFML pages from ASP.NET (and vice versa),
and more.

As the site (and our docs) explain in more detail, BD/.NET is implemented as a
.NET HttpHandler. The CFML remains CFML but is processed by the BlueDragon.DLL,
a managed assembly typically stored in the GAC (for those who know .NET). The
benefit is that your CFML can leverage nearly everything in the .NET Framework.

But I won't go on about the .NET edition. The main point is to clarify that
while you can do some similar integration with CFML and JAVA in CFMX (and the
Java editions of BlueDragon), you can't do any of this with .NET from CFML in
CFMX.

Finally, since you may be wondering why we might imply any advantage against
the J2EE edition of CFMX, I'll also note that our J2EE edition is quite a bit
more straightforward. It really is just a web app. No installer needed, no
post-deployment wizard. To answer your question, yes, you could quite easily
integrate CFML and an existing J2EE web app. But, yes, you could do that with
CFMX as well.

I'll just conclude by pointing out that if you want to deploy your CFML on
WebSphere or WebLogic, for instance, and you want to use clustering with
replication of sessions, CFMX does NOT support that, while BlueDragon does. The
lack of support for WebSphere Network Deployment, in particular, is noted in
Macromedia technotes and requirements docs. HTH.

We'll be discussing the .NET edition in much more detail at the CFUnited event,
just as I did at Powered By Detroit this past weekend. Of course, our web site
offers lots of info as well, and we can offer a live web demo or answer further
questions from anyone interested. I know many on this list prefer not to have
sales pitch type discussions here. I'm just answering a direct question and
am happy to take the discussion offline.

Charlie Arehart
CTO, New Atlanta Communications
makers of BlueDragon
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

 OK...so I'm still new to Java and I'm wondering about this that I read
 on New Atlanta's site:

 Only with BlueDragon can you seamlessly redeploy existing CFML
 applications to any standard .NET or J2EE platform. Then, natively
 integrate and extend your applications using .NET or J2EE technologies.

 It's the natively part I'm a bit confused about. It makes me think
 CF for J2EE is more of an add-on of some kind when deployed on a J2EE
 server...and BlueDragon is more integrated into that environment wehn
 deployed.

I'd also have to concur with the nVidia chipset recommendation. I've

problem.

Hi all,

I have a problem with what I'm assuming is flash remoting in CFMX7
Enterprise.

Whenever I try to use a flash form I get the following:

2 Errors found.

Error C:\websites\testFlashForm.cfm:-1
macromedia.css.LocatorParser

Error C:\websites\testFlashFor.mxml:349
The class 'mx.rpc.RemoteClassRelayResponder' could not be loaded.

I can't get flash forms to work at all.

I found web pages talking about re-running the connectors and ensuring
that JRunScripts exists and I have done all of that, but it still
doesn't work.

This really shouldn't be this hard, it's a clean install. I figured
that it should work out of the box as it were.

Any help is appreciated.

SQL help - inserting a dynamic variable

2005-04-11 Thread Pete Ruckelshaus
I'm making life harder on myself than I need to. Salient facts:
CFMX7, SQL Server 2000

I'm trying to insert an address. The contact address table has the
usual fields, i.e. id, contactID, address1, address2, city, state,
zip, etc., but it also has an addressTypeID that is a lookup column
that references values in an addressType table that has typeid,
typename

What I _WANT_ to be able to do is something like this:

INSERT INTO  tblContactAddress(contactID,addressTypeID,address1, etc.)
VALUES (#contactIDValue#, (SELECT ID FROM tblAddressType WHERE
typename = 'General'), '#address1Value#',etc.)

Of course, I would be using cfqueryparam for all variables.

SQL Server doesn't like this. Is there a way to accomplish what I'm after?

Thanks!

Pete

Cookies, Client Variables, CFID/CFTOKEN

2005-04-11 Thread Matthew Small
I'm trying to fix an application written in fusebox that uses client vars,
cookies, and CFID/CFTOKEN cookies. What is happening is that if a client
logs into the application and is successful, the code suggests that both a
client variable and a cookie are written and this determines login (I have
not yet found where that occurs). Here is a snippet of the login code:

cfif NOT client.isAuthenticated AND NOT cookie.isAuthenticated

a href=index.cfm?fuseaction=users.loginxfa=home.mainLog in
/a

cfelse

.

/cfif

However, looking through the (IE) internet files using IECookiesView, I see
the cookie for my domain with three values:

ValueExpiration Date
Created in:

CFID:13968389/26/2037 8:00:00pm
Server

CFTOKEN:24624962  9/26/2037 8:00:00pm
Server

CP:   null*  12/31/2019
8:00:00pmClient

What is interesting to me is that I don't see an isAuthenticated value in
this cookie, ever.

What I need to do is force the client to log in again if the browser is
closed. I figure that forcing the CFID/CFTOKEN cookie to expire would do
the trick, but I have not found a CFAPPLICATION tag in this application
(yet), and I have not seen where cookie.isAuthenticated is being created on
the client. Additionally, the Application and Server default and maximum
timeouts in CFADMINISTRATOR are set to 2 days and 20 minutes, respectively.

Here are my questions:

1) What pieces of the puzzle am I missing?

2) Isn't CFAPPLICATION necessary to use CFID/CFTOKEN and client
variables?

3) (For fuseboxers) If #2 is true, where might CFAPPLICATION be
hidden? It's not in any application.cfm page.

Thank you,

Matt Small

Steven,

If you are running multiple instance of CF for J2EE then look into
this. When you create a new instance in JRun, Flash Remoting for JRun
in automatically deployed as an EAR. You want to remove this, as what
is happening is CF has remoting built in and the JRun flash remoting
(which is for jsp) is conflicting. If you need them both then you
should change the deployment directory of the JRun one to something

Report Builder Subreports and Stored Procedures

2005-04-11 Thread Andrew Peterson
Can you use a Microsoft SQL Stored Procedure to populate a sub-report (cfr)
either by Embedded Stored Procedure(s) within the report builder or called by
a CFM template? If so, how is this accomplished? We know that you can use a
Microsoft SQL Stored Procedure in a CFM template to populate the report. Also,
why don’t the stored procedure(s) show up under the “Queries” folder for
the ODBC data source within the “Query Builder”? Thank you in advance for
all of your help!

Andrew

I belief that you can indeed do this. We were able to get it working

get into it in far more detail. My Crystal Reports experiance should
come in well. Will let everyone know as soon as I have gotten well into it.

Flash 2004 Remoting

2005-04-11 Thread Greg Johnson
Can anyone point me to a good source on the web to see some actual code
on how to do this. Been following the stuff in the official referance
and have some 2004 books on order, but what I am trying just aint
working. I have a cfc located in the gateway/cfc directory with the
contents of

 cfcomponent displayname=Legislator hint=This cfc allows retrieval
 of Legislator Data
 cffunction access=remote name=returnhouse returntype=query
 displayname=Return House hint=This returns a list of Legislators in
 the house.

 CFQUERY NAME=qry_house_legs DATASOURCE=NC_Impact
 SELECT nvc_leg_name
 FROM dbo.tbl_leg
 WHERE (int_leg_house_senate = 1);
 /CFQUERY
 cfset Flash.Result = qry_house_legs
 cfreturn qry_house_legs

 /cffunction
 /cfcomponent

and put this in the first frame of my flash app

 //Import Classes
 import mx.remoting.Service;
 import mx.remoting.PendingCall;
 import mx.rpc.RelayResponder;
 import mx.rpc.ResultEvent;
 import mx.rpc.FaultEvent;

 //Create ReplayResponder to specify result handling methods
 var myResponder:RelayResponder = new
 RelayResponder(this,returnhouse_Result,returnhouse_Fault);

 //establish gateway and create a Service object to refer to the service
 var CFMService:Service = new
 Service(http://localhost:8500/flashservices/gateway,null,legislators,null,null);

 //set user credentials
 CFMService.connection.setCredentials(cfa,cfa);

 //call service function
 var temp_pc:PendingCall = CFMService.returnhouse();
 trace(call made);

 //Result Handler
 function returnhouse_Result (re:ResultEvent):Void {
 trace(Worked);
 }

 //Fault Handler
 function returnhouse_Fault (fe:FaultEvent):Void {
 trace(Failed);
 }

When I run it the output gives me the /*call made*/ and no errors, but
thats it.  No /*worked */or /*failed*/. :'(

  I can't get flash forms to work at all.

  I found web pages talking about re-running the connectors and ensuring
  that JRunScripts exists and I have done all of that, but it still

  This really shouldn't be this hard, it's a clean install. I figured

  Any help is appreciated.

You should be able to use anything as a datasource for a report. You just pass
it in. You just don't get the benefit of the fields automatically being
available in design mode. You have to know the names being passed in.

why don’t the stored procedure(s) show up under the

You can use query-of-query functionality to build one query from the union
of two existing queries, as long as the datatypes of the data you want are
similar in both queries. You may need to alias fields in the original
queries to get the names to match.

cfquery name=q1 datasource=ds1
SELECT storageid AS id,
   storagename AS name,
   'storage' AS type
FROM storage
/cfquery

cfquery name=q2 datasource=ds2
SELECT participantid AS id,
   participantname AS name,
   'participant' AS type
FROM participant
/cfquery

cfquery name=q3 dbtype=query
SELECT id, name, type
FROM q1

UNION

SELECT id, name, type
FROM   q2
/cfquery

RE: Create 1 CFSELECT from two sources

One way would be to combine the two queries into one. You have the two
datasources already in cfqueries just do this.

cfquery name=getOrdersForCustomer dbtype=query
Select a.*, b.* from queryA a, queryB b
/cfquery

Of course you may have to make some small changes like making the column
names match, ordering by a certain field... but this will give you one
query with all of your data

RE: Create 1 CFSELECT from two sources

2005-04-11 Thread Matt Osbun
Yeah, kinda sorta.

Keep in mind, I'm not advocating this as a solution. I've used it, and
finally decided to merge the databases into one, eliminating the Access
database.

But anyway, for awhile I was in a situation where employee information
was kept in Oracle and employee Intranet accounts were stored in Access.
I ended up creating a link table in Access to the Oracle DB, using an
ODBC reference, and building queries out of the Access tables and the
link table.

We ended up merging the account information into Oracle, though.

Hope this helps.

I was trying to add another full-text index for a column (not the same column
as the existing index...this is a new column) and the process of adding the
catalog hung. I had to do the old end task in task manager to recover.
After a server reboot, the full-text index option is now greyed out for all
databases on that server.

The databases still functions properly, but I'm guessing something has been
corruptedany ideas??

you'll find convert from Powerpoint to Flash swf. I personally haven't found
one that will export the animations as well as all the other smaller
details.

My suggestion is to look into doing your own automation. Handling Powerpoint
through COM is extremely easy, well documented and more flexible than most
products on the market that are ment for business users and not developers.

Cheers,

RE: CROSSPOST: MS SQL Server and Full Text Indexes

2005-04-11 Thread Paul Vernon
Things may appear hung in Enterprise Manager because it sits waiting for a
response from SQL Servers engine and depending on the action you do and the
table structure and quantitiy of data, things can take some time...

I did exactly the operation you attempted a couple of years ago on a dev
box, it took 20 minutes... I went to do it on live and about had
palpatations when it didn't return for 12 hours... My lesson learned was to
always double check the amount of data you are processing and account for it
in the operations you want to do...

As a last resort to fix this, you may have to re-install the full text
indexing engine but first, lets take a look at a few things.

 Are there any problems in the error logs relating to SQL Server etc?

Re: Adding/removing/modifying checkboxes/dropdown boxes dynamically in CF??

2005-04-11 Thread Daniel Kang
The challenge here is that the number of checkboxes are not defined,
meaning the user (to make it simple, let us say a user) can add any
number of checkboxes (20, 40, 50, etc). This also makes very hard
(=whenever the user wants to add one checkbox, I have to add the
checkbox on the CF page and have to add the column in the database) to
hard-code the checkboxes.

I think that the steps are:

1) I have to develop a CF page where the user can enter the
information for new checkboxes.
2) once the user enters the information, the column in the database
has to be added
3) Also, the checkboxes have to be auto-populated on the CF Page where
the user is going to actually make data entry for forms, categories,
and all other things.

The step 1 and 2 are relatively easy since I simply need to alter the
table, but I am not sure on how to approach the Step 3.

Please let me know if I am missing anything on your tips.

I think you're making this a bit more complicated than need be. Are you
using roles authentication? If so, you'll need to set the remote method to
have the proper authority. If not, than you're setting the credentials for
no reason.

I have an example of roles authentication remoting at home that I can post

Re: SQL help - inserting a dynamic variable

2005-04-11 Thread Gareth Arch
You've more or less posted the answer. The method to use would be:

INSERT INTO  tblContactAddress(contactID,addressTypeID,address1, etc.)
SELECT #contactIDValue#, ID, '#address1Value#',etc.
FROM tblAddressType
WHERE typename = 'General'

Just make sure typename = 'General' will only return one value or it will
insert those values each time it finds 'General' in tblAddressType (i.e. if you
have 3 typename = 'General' it will insert 3 records)

I'm making life harder on myself than I need to. Salient facts:
CFMX7, SQL Server 2000

I'm trying to insert an address. The contact address table has the
usual fields, i.e. id, contactID, address1, address2, city, state,
zip, etc., but it also has an addressTypeID that is a lookup column
that references values in an addressType table that has typeid,
typename

What I _WANT_ to be able to do is something like this:

INSERT INTO  tblContactAddress(contactID,addressTypeID,address1, etc.)
VALUES (#contactIDValue#, (SELECT ID FROM tblAddressType WHERE
typename = 'General'), '#address1Value#',etc.)

Of course, I would be using cfqueryparam for all variables.

SQL Server doesn't like this. Is there a way to accomplish what I'm after?

Thanks!

Re: CROSSPOST: MS SQL Server and Full Text Indexes

2005-04-11 Thread Bryan Stevenson
Hey Paul,

It definately wasn't a long running process because the problem still
existed after a server reboot.

I noticed that an existing index was trying to run an incremental update and
it wasn't completing. So I assumed something was wrong with that one (which
has been working fine for over a year). I managed to delete that index and
it's catalog and reboot the server again.

Now the full-text indexing option is no longer greyed outso it's time to
try and re-add the old index and then add the new onehopefully all will
go as smoothly as when I added the original index ;-)

Re:__print_break_in_CF???

2005-04-11 Thread S . Isaac Dealey
I suspect in order for this to work you would need the item which has
class=breakhere inside an element with class=doNotPrint ...

More specifically, this will work:

div style=display:none;
div style=page-break-before:always;.../div
/div

This will not:

div style=display:none;.../div
div style=page-break-before:always;.../div

The reason this doesn't work is because you're still displaying the
element which according to the rule needs a page break before it. So
as long as that element is being printed, that page break will be part
of the printed representation.

hth

 page-break-before works fine on IE 6, which my users are
 using.
 I want to skip certain pages when being printed to save
 trees.   I put
 the CSS below for testing. It skips the page, but it
 still prints a
 blank page, which does not let me save trees. Please let

CFSELECT part 2

2005-04-11 Thread Claremont, Timothy
In another attempt to solve my earlier problem...

My participant list is based on a query of a table of our participants.

Is there a way to create a CFSELECT box that ADDS an additional field
that is blank, in cases where no participant is needed?

In theory I could make that item not required but if a user makes a
selection from that CFSELECT and then realizes that it should be blank,
they can't clear the selection without refreshing the entire form and
starting over.

So, what I am after is a CFSELECT based on the results of a query AND
one additional blank item.

TIA,
Tim

do that I will make it so clicking on a name will bring up a 2ed window
that will give detailed info on the person.

Hey greg,

I think you're making this a bit more complicated than need be. Are you

I have an example of roles authentication remoting at home that I can post
if thats your intention.

Can anyone point me to a good source on the web to see some actual code
on how to do this. Been following the stuff in the official referance
and have some 2004 books on order, but what I am trying just aint
working. I have a cfc located in the gateway/cfc directory with the
contents of

cfcomponent displayname=Legislator hint=This cfc allows retrieval
of Legislator Data
cffunction access=remote name=returnhouse returntype=query
displayname=Return House hint=This returns a list of Legislators in
the house.

CFQUERY NAME=qry_house_legs DATASOURCE=NC_Impact
SELECT nvc_leg_name
FROM dbo.tbl_leg
WHERE (int_leg_house_senate = 1);
/CFQUERY
cfset Flash.Result = qry_house_legs
cfreturn qry_house_legs

/cffunction
/cfcomponent

and put this in the first frame of my flash app

//Import Classes
import mx.remoting.Service;
import mx.remoting.PendingCall;
import mx.rpc.RelayResponder;
import mx.rpc.ResultEvent;
import mx.rpc.FaultEvent;

//Create ReplayResponder to specify result handling methods
var myResponder:RelayResponder = new
RelayResponder(this,returnhouse_Result,returnhouse_Fault);

//establish gateway and create a Service object to refer to the service
var CFMService:Service = new

Service(http://localhost:8500/flashservices/gateway,null,legislators,nul
l,null);

//set user credentials
CFMService.connection.setCredentials(cfa,cfa);

//call service function
var temp_pc:PendingCall = CFMService.returnhouse();
trace(call made);

//Result Handler
function returnhouse_Result (re:ResultEvent):Void {
trace(Worked);
}

//Fault Handler
function returnhouse_Fault (fe:FaultEvent):Void {
trace(Failed);
}

When I run it the output gives me the /*call made*/ and no errors, but
thats it.  No /*worked */or /*failed*/. :'(

should
see the EAR for CF listed as well as the Flash Remoting EAR. remove the

If you need them both then you
 should change the deployment directory of the JRun one to something
 other than the default.

Re: To CFLogin or not to CFLogin, that is my question.

2005-04-11 Thread S . Isaac Dealey
 Apologies to those in advance who get this twice.
  I have to admit i've never used he built in
  authentication in CF (cflogin
 etc). So i'm curious to hear from everyone there thoughts
 on when it's a
 good idea and when it's a bad idea to use this versus a
 home grown solution.
  thanks in advance.
 jonese

I've not used it, I've only heard that it's buggy... That being the
case, I've never found creating a home grown login solution to be
difficult in any way, so I continue to do that... Besides which, you
kinda have to build your own home grown login solution even if you
use them anyway, since it actually handles very little of the
user-authentication process. I have heard that if you decide to use
cflogin you also need to use cflogout prior to the cflogin tag
to make sure the previous user information is cleared prior to the new
login. I do think the tags have some built-in OS-integration features
that wouldn't be easy to replicate from scratch, although I
personally have never needed them -- we had similar features for
windows-security integration in previous versions of CF and I never
needed those either. I would expect you'd only run into a situation
where you want that in a corporate intranet environment. But I'm no
expert on it.

Re: Adding/removing/modifying checkboxes/dropdown boxes dynamically in CF??

2005-04-11 Thread S . Isaac Dealey
These are predefined departments arent they?

Even if they aren't, why would you subject yourself to the horror of
adding a database column each time a user adds a category? That
exactly the sort of problem relational databases were designed to
solve -- so you wouldn't need to add columns. (That's the relational
part -- as opposed to a non-relational database which is merely a
spreadsheet afaik.)

The information in my last post applied to a list of pre-defined
categories (which sound to me like hospital departments), however,
it still will work with a variable number of departments, you would
merely need an additional form page to allow users to update the
tCategory table, which is hideously simple -- it's a standard
create-read-update-delete (CRUD) form. Then once you or they have
populated the tCategory table the code in my previous post can handle
associating those categories with your other form record. (It might be
helpful if we knew what the categories are being associated with --
presumably the form is used to update information about something
other than the form itself.)

 I think that the steps are:

 1) I have to develop a CF page where the user can enter
 the information for new checkboxes.

 2) once the user enters the information, the column in the
 database has to be added

please don't... do a google search for third normal form. Trust me,
you'll be grateful.

 3) Also, the checkboxes have to be auto-populated on the
 CF Page where the user is going to actually make data
 entry for forms, categories, and all other things.

The code I supplied will do that for associating categories with the
form record.

 The step 1 and 2 are relatively easy since I simply need
 to alter the table, but I am not sure on how to approach
 the Step 3.

see the code in the original message... but it's steps 1 and 2 you're
planning to do in a way that you'll regret later.

Re: SQL help - inserting a dynamic variable

2005-04-11 Thread Gareth Arch
You should be able to join as many tables as you like (just as in a regular
query). Just select the column names you need

insert into tblthis
(columnone, columntwo, columnthree)
select c.dataone, d.datatwo, e.datathree
from mycolumns c
inner join mycolumnstwo d on (c.my_id = d.my_id)
inner join mycolumnsthree e on (c.my_id = e.my_id)
where c.typename = 'General'

Oh, so IOW I can only do that for one join table, not more than one?
I have a couple of lookup columns that I'll be inserting...

Use remote queries.

http://www.vb123.com/toolshed/02_accvb/remotequeries.htm

It allows you to join multiple dbm files in one query.

I have also seen syntax like:

Select * from c:\path\accessdb.mdb\tablename

And this works, I've done it but it's been a long time.

Using 6.1 and Access DB...

Is there a way to combine two data sources to generate a CFSELECT list?

I have a list of storage locations, and a list of participants. My
select list will result in allowing the end user to tell me that the
item is at a storage location, or with a participant.

The list of participants is in one database, and the list of locations
is in another. How do I make them appear in one list?

like match from a list

2005-04-11 Thread Les Mizzell
Yet another driving me crazy query problem.

I'm showing a grid of color blocks. When the user clicks on one of them,
it set a variable to look for in the database:

cfset colorLIST = 'Teal', 'Turquoise', 'Mediterranean', 'Blue-Green',
'blue-green'

So, here's the query

cfquery name=srch datasource=phoenixart
  SELECT * FROM products
  WHERE COLOR IN (#PreserveSingleQuotes(colorLIST)#)
/cfquery

But, here's the problem.
Database Color Field values for product 1: blue-green, purple, gold
Database Color Field values for product 2: blue-green

Only product 2 comes up, because the search wants to have an exact match
to the entire field, right? So, how do I get like match from the list?

Re: like match from a list

2005-04-11 Thread Bryan Stevenson
The problem is the data structure.

You should not store lists of values in a field ;-)

1) break colors out into a seperate table (color_ID and color_name fields)

2) create a table that will hold product_ID and color_ID (this matches
colors to a product)

3) delete your field with lists of colors and make sure there is one record
for each color/product combo in the table mentioned in #2 above

Alter your query to use a table joins between product/color/product_color
tables

RE: like match from a list

2005-04-11 Thread Ben Forta
The answer is not in your SQL or your CFML, it is in your database schema.
If you can have multiple values for a column that column needs to be a
separate table, that's what joins are for, and that will make your SQL a
whole lot simpler.

Nope. I am just trying to do a very simple system where it retrieves a
list of names (to start with) and displays them in a list box. Once I
do that I will make it so clicking on a name will bring up a 2ed window
that will give detailed info on the person.

Kevin Aebig wrote:

Hey greg,

I think you're making this a bit more complicated than need be. Are you

I have an example of roles authentication remoting at home that I can post

RE: Last Week...

2005-04-11 Thread S . Isaac Dealey
No it should work regardless of today's date... All date math
basically follows the same principals... A week is 7 days long, so you
know that you can adjust a date value by weeks either by using
dateadd(w,x,date) or by using dateadd(d,x*7,date) with x being the
number of days. In this case we're wanting to deal with calendar
weeks, which begin and end on a specific day. The function
dayOfWeek(date) returns a number (1-7) indicating the current day. So
if I want the first day of the current week, all I have to do is ajust
the date so that dayOfWeek(date) would return 1... and I can do that
by subtracting 1 from the current day of the week and subtracting the
result from the current date.

(Although I did just see I typo'd the formula, so my post was still
incorrect.)

!--- on monday this returns 1 ---
cfset currentday = dayofweek(now())

!--- on monday this returns 0
-- which would be the day of week
if we used zero-index numbers to count them ---
cfset currentday = currentday - 1

!--- on monday april 11/2005 this returns -- well, monday april
11/2005 ---
cfset today = now()

!--- monday is the first day of the week, so on monday the date is
not adjusted ---
cfset firstdayofweek = dateadd(d,-currentday,today)

In the code this translates to:

monday: firstdayofweek = dateadd(d,-0,now()) = monday
tuesday: firstdayofweek = dateadd(d,-1,now()) = monday
wednesday: firstdayofweek = dateadd(d,-2,now()) = monday

You see where this is going... I just put it all on one line, although
the correct code is:

cfset firstdayofthisweek = dateadd(d,1-dayofweek(now()),now())

algebra
:: 1-dayofweek(now()) is the same as -(dayofweek(now())-1) ::

It's not as difficult as people think it is...

 Not quite sure I grasp that, Isaac...would that only work
 if it were run on the second day of the week?

 cfset firstdayofthisweek =
 dateadd(d,dayofweek(now())-1,now())

 From there you can add -7 days to get the first day of
 last week or -1
 day to get the last day of last week.

CF and DMZs

2005-04-11 Thread Coleman, Brian
The powers that be are talking about setting up a DMZ this summer and
want to have a webserver in the DMZ and another webserver on the
internal network.
I won't be setting up the DMZ or anything, but I do the Cold Fusion
pages and web server maintenance. I'm googling around today for
information about web servers in a DMZ environment, but if anyone has
any information, I'd appreciate it.

We're going to be using win2k and IIS5.0 on both web servers, with CF MX
6.1
They've mentioned that the reason for a putting the webserver in the DMZ
is so that if anyone hacks it, it can be blown away and recreated
using the internal webserver. This sounds like something you'd use a
backup for, rather then another server, but maybe if the internal server
was replicating files and any changes on the external server would get
blown away? I would also assume that only the DMZ server would need CF
server installed on it and a license for CF, although I'm still looking
into this, too.

Thanks,
Brian

Re: Last Week...

2005-04-11 Thread S . Isaac Dealey
neat function... little more than is really needed... and I think it's
not i18n, since many countries use Monday as their first day of week
(much of the european union as I understand it), and I _think_ CF
always returns Sunday as the first day of the week from DayOfWeek().
The java.util.Calendar class includes information to indicate if the
calendar for a given locale begins on sunday or another day, but all
the math is based on the assumption of sunday being day 1. Then again,
I believe core Java doesn't include anything other than Gregorian
calendars yet, and iirc there are 6 or so other calendars in common
usage including Buddhist and Muslim. Not saying it's bad, just
offering the info.

 or you can use this nice little UDF from cflib.org

 http://www.cflib.org/udf.cfm?ID=330

 and rather than give it a +1 for next week, you can give
 it a -1 for
 last week and so on...

I've seen this error before and it happened when I had name conflicts in the

variables/query/array/structure naming conflicts. Might not be the case for
you, but thought I'd throw it out there.

=  This is bad  ===
cfquery name=foo
SELECT this FROM that

cfset foo = bar

Also, make double sure that you're VARing your local variables.
