Re: CF Editor
Because no one is going to update or add new features to Homesite. ColdFusion as a language is improving and adding new features with each version, so far they have been changes in the grammar for example in CFSCRIPT. Now, if you manage to find a bug in Homesite (God forbid! Its perfect software apparently, from some of the comments on here) who is going to fix it? Oh well doesn't matter is better the devil you know right? I for one have moved over to using macs 100% a while back for reasons of my own, I couldn't use CF Studio anymore and I couldn't buy it (the closest I could get was some crappy cut down version of CFStudio called Homesite) so it was either buying a PC, or using Dreamweaver, which was kinda bloated (i.e. it had lots of features that I didn't need) or find something else. I moved to CFEclipse, and did as you did, complain. I want this, I want that, then I decided to add those features myself, and this is what I have been doing. I am also able to do add new features that HomeSite will never have (CFUnite integration, Frameworks support, multiple versions of CFML anyone?) We host servers at Sungard (formally inflow) in Nashville. CSS difference between IE and FF
Hi, I have a css with the following declaration: #hdrB *{*width*:*100%*;*color*:*#ff*;*height*:*92px*;*margin*:*0 20px 10px*;*text-align*:*left*;}* and then in a cfm file I have the following: div id=hdrBimg src=images/pic1.gif border=0 style=height:92px / /div In IE7 the image fills the whole header, as it should. In FF 2.* for some reason the image is bigger then the height of the header. You can visually see that the header is actually smaller in FF. What gives? Are pixels different between browsers? What can I do to have the header the same size in both browsers? Thanks Victor ~| Create robust enterprise, web RIAs. RE: CSS difference between IE and FF
Pixels aren't different between browsers, but each browser has a different interpretation of how CSS should be rendered. Without seeing this code in context, it's difficult to say exactly what it is, but it probably has something to do with your margin settins. Try setting them to zero: margin: 0px; Then see what that looks like. andy -Original Message- From: Victor Moore [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, July 09, 2007 8:21 AM To: CF-Talk Subject: CSS difference between IE and FF Hi, I have a css with the following declaration: #hdrB *{*width*:*100%*;*color*:*#ff*;*height*:*92px*;*margin*:*0 20px 10px*;*text-align*:*left*;}* and then in a cfm file I have the following: div id=hdrBimg src=images/pic1.gif border=0 style=height:92px / /div In IE7 the image fills the whole header, as it should. Programmatically deleting a datasource
I found some terrific code to access the admin api on House of Fusion here. Thanks to all! In experimenting with the methods, I can successfully create a SQL datasource. What I'm having trouble doing is deleting it. factory.datasourceservice.removeDatasource(theDatasourceName) seems the logically choice. In doing so, the datasource gets deleted from factory.datasourceservice.getNames() but not from factory.datasourceservice.getDatasources(). The datasource will appear in the CF Admin list, but errors if I try to edit or verify it. Something changed, just not everything. Does anyone know what piece I might be missing? (Admin) Off topic posts should not be here
Please remember that this is a COLDFUSION only list. If you have a post that is not a technical ColdFusion question, please post it to one of the other mailing lists. If you want to talk about balk ColdFusion developers, post it to CF-Community or CF-OT. If you want to talk about Eclipse, there's a CFEclipse list. Stolen server? Community or OT. General Regular Expressions? CF-RegEx list. General Oracle, SQL, or other DB questions (not CFQuery or the like) should go to the SQL list. I really appreciate you making my job easier by trying to keep your posts on topic and on the proper lists. It saves me all of the emails about OT posts. RE: Confirmed: at least one more CF8 Release Candidate
Um Peter, nope, not quite. ;-) There is no RC2 planned, in fact, there is no additional public beta planned. We do plan a build that will be made available to individuals on the private beta, just to verify that issues that they reported have been addressed, but that will be a private NDA only release, not a public one. The next planned public release will be the shipping CF8. --- Ben -Original Message- From: Peter Tilbrook [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, July 09, 2007 11:12 AM To: CF-Talk Subject: Confirmed: at least one more CF8 Release Candidate Great news from the the CF dev team - expect at least one more release candidate for ColdFusion 8 (aka Scorpio). RE: Programmatically deleting a datasource
Brent, Use the AdminAPI instead of accessing the factory directly. The adminapi will provide the ability to create/delete datasources. The underlining factory could change with with future releases of CF and the AdminAPI is there to provide a stable level of abstraction that you can use. http://livedocs.adobe.com/coldfusion/7/htmldocs/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/w whelp.htm?context=ColdFusion_Documentationfile=1734.htm John [EMAIL PROTECTED] -Original Message- From: Brent Shaub [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, July 09, 2007 9:55 AM To: CF-Talk Subject: Programmatically deleting a datasource I found some terrific code to access the admin api on House of Fusion here. Does anyone know what piece I might be missing? yup, same here for me. I guess this is normal. They just forgot to update it. Anyone who uses MG:U, have you recently upgraded to the latest public 2.0.x build? Coldfusion service crashing and unable to restart
Hi. We're running CF MX 7.0.2.142559 on a Win2003 server and we're having the following problem: Coldfusion is periodically crashing (leaving our users with a Could not connect to jrun server error) and the only way to restart it is to restart the machine. When I try to restart it from the command line with cfstart, I get this error: # An unexpected error has been detected by HotSpot Virtual Machine: # # EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc005) at pc=0x080cacc2, pid=3692, tid=3932 # # Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (1.4.2_09-b05 mixed mode) # Problematic frame: # V [jvm.dll+0xcacc2] We have noticed that if we restart the Coldfusion ODBC service first, then the application service starts up without us having to restart the machine. Our goal is to stop CF from crashing in the first place, but since we have no idea why that's happening (we're searched the log files and found no clues), I'm hoping someone can recognize the symptoms above offer us some guidance. RE: SURVEY: Is ColdFusion OO?
The problem I have with these questions is that it's a mix match of two different things. OO is a programming paradigm. Java, ColdFusion are programming languages. Two different things here, which is important. You can program java in OO or (god help you) procedurally, but that doesn't mean Java is OO or not. This would be sort like saying is Linux or Windows OO. The question really should be phrase to say can you program or code ColdFusion to utilize the OO paradigm. Or even more precisely, does Coldfusion allow for the four basic components of the OO paradigm: Inheritance, Encapsulation, Abstraction and Polymorphism. There are plenty of historical examples here showing how people have done it in the past, but when I reproduce their code all that gets emailed is the bare code, unexecuted. Thanks, John, this is a much more concise, readable (and apparently reliable) way to go. In a matter of a few minutes, I was able to properly delete a datasource. RE: Programmatically deleting a datasource
No problem glad to help. If you were on CF 6, you would have to hack through the factory to do these things (and it's not pretty) but the admin api helps solve this and like I mention Adobe will more than likely change the underlining factory from time-to-time but the APIs should stay solid through newer versions saving you from having to re-work your code each time. Re: CF8 500 error
There were several threads, because of minor title changes. My errors (and those of others) were related to an internal component also being beta, and that beta expiring. This can be confirmed by turning your system clock back a month, restarting your cf service, and trying the page again. My issue was related to any .swf file being passed to the Live Cycle DataServices SwfServlet (ANY swf file, not just Flex made files). I received an email this morning assuring me that it won't be a 'beta' component on CF8 release. A complete removal and reinstall of my development environment has repaired the issue (at least until the LCDS beta expires again). Hope this helps. RE: Init method and getters / setters in cfc
Chris, While I don't know what is *right*, here are the arguments that I have heard against the generic getter/setter: * The CFC is not self documenting. Looking at its functions does not give you any insight into what it can set/get. * Not clear on what should be returned if an invalid get is requested. * It makes extending a component more difficult because the parent component now has to be smarter about where it looks for its data. Take that with a grain of salt ;) .. RE: CSS difference between IE and FF
That's called collapsing vertical margins. When two vertical margins overlap, standards compliant browsers will collapse them into the larger of the two margins. Imagine 2 boxes with margin-top of 20px and margin-bottom of 20px. With vertical collapsing, the margin in between the first and second box will be: 20px. Not the 40px you might have thought it should be. It's a gotcha in the standard that not a lot of people know about. But it's the standard (vertical works a lot differently than horizontal) Sandra Clark = http://www.shayna.com Training and Consulting in CSS and Accessibility Team Fusebox -Original Message- From: Victor Moore [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, July 09, 2007 3:57 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: Re: CSS difference between IE and FF Thank you both for your answers. Re: How to print directly from coldfusion code
First question, print where? On what printer are you expecting the output to appear? Of course the CF application server is only going to be able to access printers available to the server it is installed on or the domain user it is running under. The next question, What are the capabilities of this printer and its print driver? Depending on the answer to the this question, will determine how this can be done. Some network printers are capable of watching a directory and printing anything that is placed into it.
