No they aren't. You are sending the CFML with a HTTP header that
indicates it is UTF-8 (which will overrule your ISO meta tag in the

cflocation displays data on a user page (a location header, to be precise).

Re: CF Editor

2007-07-09 Thread Mark Drew
Because no one is going to update or add new features to Homesite.

ColdFusion as a language is improving and adding new features with
each version, so far they have been changes in the grammar for
example in CFSCRIPT. Now, if you manage to find a bug in Homesite
(God forbid! Its perfect software apparently, from some of the
comments on here) who is going to fix it? Oh well doesn't matter is
better the devil you know right?

I for one have moved over to using macs 100% a while back for reasons
of my own, I couldn't use CF Studio anymore and I couldn't buy it
(the closest I could get was some crappy cut down version of CFStudio
called Homesite) so it was either buying a PC, or using Dreamweaver,
which was kinda bloated (i.e. it had lots of features that I didn't
need) or find something else.

I moved to CFEclipse, and did as you did, complain. I want this, I
want that, then I decided to add those features myself, and this is
what I have been doing. I am also able to do add new features that
HomeSite will never have (CFUnite integration, Frameworks support,
multiple versions of CFML anyone?)

If you develop in one way forever, then, as I have said before and
very publicly , I wont hire you. Learn, advance, evolve.

Coldfusion and Oracle AL32utf8 Characterset

2007-07-09 Thread vishnu prasad
Hi

We are running Coldfusion MX 6.1 with oracle databse chracterset as AL32UTF8
and NLS_Length_Sementac is CHAR

before we use Oracle Default Characterset with NLS_Length_Sementac is Byte

In the New DB character set , in the Select statment it generate empty space ,
so when i use those values in any insert statment i am getting insrerted value
too large error

Following is an Example

In Database in Tablea i have a column ColumnA
Tabela
ColumnA char(1)
IDnumber

select * from tabela
ColumnA ID

N(No space in dB) 1
N(No space in dB) 2
Y(No space in dB) 3

In coldfusion Template I put the select statment as
cfquery name=test datasource = test1
Select columnA from tablea where id = 1
cfquery

when i dump the values of columnA it has the data with space also i set the
value to text box there also it has spaces

and use the columna in values and insert in to the other table tableB

TableB
ColumnB Char(1)

Insert into tabelB (columnb) values (test1.ColumnA)

above insert statement gives error insert value too large

Anyone can help me why coldfusion is behavioring like this with oracle databse
as Al32utf8 character set

We host servers at Sungard (formally inflow) in Nashville. It is in an
office building downtown and there are armed guards, 24 hour technicians,

get in the building let alone have enough time to unscrew the servers and
take off with them.

So if anyone steals my server, they can't get any data from it.
 It uses AES-256 bit encryption.

It's found at SourceForge.org and is free. No hard to use.
Once I set it up, it's worked flawlessly. (But I haven't had my

- yes, CF is OO and it's 100% in terms of being able to code in an OO style
- no, Adobe don't need to add anything (beyond what's in CF8)

Caveat: a lot of people think Java == OO and complain that CF doesn't have some
feature X that Java has. 9 times out of 10, there are other well-respected OO
languages that don't have feature X either.

Example: Smalltalk and Ruby do not have interfaces (and don't need them).

OT: My Eclipse Is Broken

2007-07-09 Thread Robert Rawlins - Think Blue
Chaps,

For some reason this morning my Eclipse 3.2 has decided that it doesn't want
to FTP to my remote server for me, when I right click the file and select
'upload' nothing happens. No prompts, no errors and no files transferred,
nothing :-s

I tried creating a new FTP connection for the project, but I still get the
exact same behaviour. I've not seen this before and I've been using this
eclipse for several months now with any problems.

Any ideas?

Thanks guys,

Rob

CSS difference between IE and FF

2007-07-09 Thread Victor Moore
Hi,

I have a css with the following declaration:
#hdrB *{*width*:*100%*;*color*:*#ff*;*height*:*92px*;*margin*:*0 20px
10px*;*text-align*:*left*;}*

and then in a cfm file I have the following:

div id=hdrBimg src=images/pic1.gif border=0
style=height:92px / /div
In IE7 the image fills the whole header, as it should. In FF 2.* for some
reason the image is bigger then the height of the header. You can visually
see that the header is actually smaller in FF.

What gives? Are pixels different between browsers? What can I do to have the
header the same size in both browsers?

Thanks

Victor

RE: CSS difference between IE and FF

2007-07-09 Thread Andy Matthews
Pixels aren't different between browsers, but each browser has a different
interpretation of how CSS should be rendered. Without seeing this code in
context, it's difficult to say exactly what it is, but it probably has
something to do with your margin settins. Try setting them to zero:

 margin: 0px;

Then see what that looks like.

Programmatically deleting a datasource

2007-07-09 Thread Brent Shaub
I found some terrific code to access the admin api on House of Fusion here.
Thanks to all! In experimenting with the methods, I can successfully create a
SQL datasource. What I'm having trouble doing is deleting it.

factory.datasourceservice.removeDatasource(theDatasourceName)

seems the logically choice. In doing so, the datasource gets deleted from
factory.datasourceservice.getNames() but not from
factory.datasourceservice.getDatasources(). The datasource will appear in the
CF Admin list, but errors if I try to edit or verify it. Something changed,
just not everything.

Does anyone know what piece I might be missing? Thanks in advance!

(Admin) Off topic posts should not be here

2007-07-09 Thread Michael Dinowitz
Please remember that this is a COLDFUSION only list. If you have a post that
is not a technical ColdFusion question, please post it to one of the other
mailing lists. If you want to talk about balk ColdFusion developers, post it
to CF-Community or CF-OT. If you want to talk about Eclipse, there's a
CFEclipse list. Stolen server? Community or OT. General Regular Expressions?
CF-RegEx list. General Oracle, SQL, or other DB questions (not CFQuery or
the like) should go to the SQL list.
I really appreciate you making my job easier by trying to keep your posts on
topic and on the proper lists. It saves me all of the emails about OT posts.

So yes, there are bald CF developers, happy birthday CF, and CF may be OO
but lets move them to the proper lists (yes, there is a CF-OOP list as
well).

Thank you

Do not quote me on this but there will be at least one more release candidate
for ColdFusion 8 (aka Scorpio).

Any issues you had/have retry them. No prisoners. No excuses.

Break it. Break it badly. Both the code and the documentation (yes even the
docs are beta). Because after this there is NO GOING BACK!

Serious CF8 rocks already but keep trying to break it. Adobe's engineers love

2007-07-09 Thread Peter Tilbrook
Great news from the the CF dev team - expect at least one more release
candidate for ColdFusion 8 (aka Scorpio).

The team appears to agree that RC1 was't right on the button - as close as it
is.

So when Adobe release RC2 (or public beta 2) grab it and try to break it.

Remember even the documentation is beta so look for swear words and easter
eggs.

ColdFusion 8 is coming - you cannot stop it - you can however help make it
awesome.

Um Peter, nope, not quite. ;-)

There is no RC2 planned, in fact, there is no additional public beta
planned.

We do plan a build that will be made available to individuals on the private
beta, just to verify that issues that they reported have been addressed, but
that will be a private NDA only release, not a public one.

The next planned public release will be the shipping CF8.

I have WinXP Pro, Apache 2.2.4 (XAMPP 1.6.2) and CFMX 8 (public beta) with

I saw a thread with same kind of problem but it looks like there is no real
solution.

I have this problem on very basic CFML pages without any Application.cfc

I just would like to ask here before starting to reinstall it. Any idea?

RE: Programmatically deleting a datasource

2007-07-09 Thread John Mason
Brent,

Use the AdminAPI instead of accessing the factory directly. The adminapi
will provide the ability to create/delete datasources. The underlining
factory could change with with future releases of CF and the AdminAPI is
there to provide a stable level of abstraction that you can use.

I found some terrific code to access the admin api on House of Fusion here.
Thanks to all! In experimenting with the methods, I can successfully create
a SQL datasource. What I'm having trouble doing is deleting it.

factory.datasourceservice.removeDatasource(theDatasourceName)

seems the logically choice. In doing so, the datasource gets deleted from
factory.datasourceservice.getNames() but not from
factory.datasourceservice.getDatasources(). The datasource will appear in
the CF Admin list, but errors if I try to edit or verify it. Something
changed, just not everything.

Does anyone know what piece I might be missing? Thanks in advance!

appending html characters

2007-07-09 Thread Scott Stewart
Hey all, I've got another weird one.

I've got a string variable that contains HTML, specifically unordered lists

In some cases, there's missing /ul or /li tags. And in some cases the
lists are nested.

I need to programmatically insert the missing tags, in the proper places.

Has anyone every done this?

Hi folks,

Just wanted to let everyone know that version 1.1.8 of CFJS (both the
jQuery and independent flavors) is now available for download from
riaforge.org (http://cfjs.riaforge.org).

Many thanks to Trent Richardson who coded the new functions that this
version makes available, namely:

   IsSimpleValue()
   IsString()
   IsValid()

Cheers!

my query.recordcount is always 51 records more than the query.recordssearched

Coldfusion service crashing and unable to restart

2007-07-09 Thread nerd
Hi. We're running CF MX 7.0.2.142559 on a Win2003 server and we're having the
following problem:

Coldfusion is periodically crashing (leaving our users with a Could not
connect to jrun server error) and the only way to restart it is to restart the
machine. When we try to restart the application service it is unable to
restart. When I try to restart it from the command line with cfstart, I get
this error:

# An unexpected error has been detected by HotSpot Virtual Machine:
#
# EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc005) at pc=0x080cacc2, pid=3692, tid=3932
#
# Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (1.4.2_09-b05 mixed mode)
# Problematic frame:
# V [jvm.dll+0xcacc2]

We have noticed that if we restart the Coldfusion ODBC service first, then the
application service starts up without us having to restart the machine.

Our goal is to stop CF from crashing in the first place, but since we have no
idea why that's happening (we're searched the log files and found no clues),
I'm hoping someone can recognize the symptoms above offer us some guidance.
Thanks!

RE: SURVEY: Is ColdFusion OO?

2007-07-09 Thread John Mason
The problem I have with these questions is that it's a mix match of two
different things. OO is a programming paradigm. Java, ColdFusion are
programming languages. Two different things here, which is important. You can
program java in OO or (god help you) procedurally, but that doesn't mean Java
is OO or not. This would be sort like saying is Linux or Windows OO.

The question really should be phrase to say can you program or code ColdFusion
to utilize the OO paradigm. Or even more precisely, does Coldfusion allow for
the four basic components of the OO paradigm: Inheritance, Encapsulation,
Abstraction and Polymorphism.

I recommend that you upgrade your JVM to the latest supported version:
1.4.2_11 or _13, I forget which. In fact, I would go for _13 even if it's
not officially supported.

This looks/sounds like bad ram on the server. The other issue is you should be
on jvm version 1.4.2_11 at least because of the daylight savings time changes

Re: Executing Code in a CFINCLUDE within CFMAIL

2007-07-09 Thread K Simanonok
I am trying to get CF code to run inside a CFMAIL tag where the code
is called by a CFINCLUDE. There are plenty of historical examples
here showing how people have done it in the past, but when I reproduce
their code all that gets emailed is the bare code, unexecuted. There
must be some secret trick that I don't know about like an arcane
setting in the CF Administrator maybe? I am using CF 5 presently, is
there something special needed in CF 5 to enable code to run inside
CFMAIL when it is in a CFINCLUDE?

Re: Programmatically deleting a datasource

2007-07-09 Thread Brent Shaub
Thanks, John, this is a much more concise, readable (and apparently reliable)
way to go. In a matter of a few minutes, I was able to properly delete a
datasource. Then it was straight-forward to creating way this way too.

Again thanks,

Brent,

Use the AdminAPI instead of accessing the factory directly. The adminapi
will provide the ability to create/delete datasources. The underlining
factory could change with with future releases of CF and the AdminAPI is
there to provide a stable level of abstraction that you can use.

RE: Programmatically deleting a datasource

2007-07-09 Thread John Mason
No problem glad to help. If you were on CF 6, you would have to hack through
the factory to do these things (and it's not pretty) but the admin api helps
solve this and like I mention Adobe will more than likely change the
underlining factory from time-to-time but the APIs should stay solid through
newer versions saving you from having to re-work your code each time.

Re: CF8 500 error

2007-07-09 Thread Cutter (CFRelated)
There were several threads, because of minor title changes. My errors
(and those of others) were related to an internal component also being
beta, and that beta expiring. This can be confirmed by turning your
system clock back a month, restarting your cf service, and trying the
page again.

My issue was related to any .swf file being passed to the Live Cycle
DataServices SwfServlet (ANY swf file, not just Flex made files). I
received an email this morning assuring me that it won't be a 'beta'
component on CF8 release. A complete removal and reinstall of my
development environment has repaired the issue (at least until the LCDS
beta expires again).

Hope this helps.

 Hi,

 #hdrB *{*width*:*100%*;*color*:*#ff*;*height*:*92px*;*margin*:*0 20px
 10px*;*text-align*:*left*;}*

and then in a cfm file I have the following:

 div id=hdrBimg src=images/pic1.gif border=0
 style=height:92px / /div
In IE7 the image fills the whole header, as it should. In FF 2.* for some
reason the image is bigger then the height of the header. You can visually
see that the header is actually smaller in FF.

What gives? Are pixels different between browsers? What can I do to have the
header the same size in both browsers?

 Thanks

Init method and getters / setters in cfc

2007-07-09 Thread Peterson, Chris
A lot of cfc's using init and 'good' OO practices have functions like
getDSN(), setDSN('Blah') littered throughout. Can I ask any guru out
there why you wouldn't use simple get('keyname') and
set('keyname','keyvalue') like the following?

cffunction name=get access=public output=no
returntype=any
cfargument name=name required=true type=string
cfreturn evaluate('variables.' arguments.name) /
/cffunction

cffunction name=set access=public output=no
returntype=void
cfargument name=name required=true type=string
cfargument name=value required=true type=any
cfset variables[arguments.name] = arguments.value /
/cffunction

Then instead of littering your cfc with numerous getters / setter, you
have 2 methods that should be able to handle simple or complex values
without any problems with much less code.

clumsy.

This method relies on top much which may not be present in a more complex

RE: Init method and getters / setters in cfc

2007-07-09 Thread Ben Nadel
Chris,

While I don't know what is *right*, here are the arguments that I have
heard against the generic getter/setter:

* The CFC is not self documenting. Looking at its functions does not
give you any insight into what it can set/get.
* Not clear on what should be returned if an invalid get is requested.
* It makes extending a component more difficult because the parent
component now has to be smarter about where it looks for its data.

Take that with a grain of salt ;)

RE: CSS difference between IE and FF

2007-07-09 Thread Sandra Clark
That's called collapsing vertical margins.

When two vertical margins overlap, standards compliant browsers will
collapse them into the larger of the two margins.

Imagine 2 boxes with margin-top of 20px and margin-bottom of 20px. With
vertical collapsing, the margin in between the first and second box will be:
20px. Not the 40px you might have thought it should be.

It's a gotcha in the standard that not a lot of people know about. But it's
the standard (vertical works a lot differently than horizontal)

This isn't the BEST solution...

But I used it once. Do you have an eFax acct and access to a FAX machine?

If you do you can efax the result to your fax machine and in effect,

I would add your component is now completely mutable. A developer can
add any data they want which may or may not be a big deal depending on
ones thinking on such things and what the component is meant to do.

An example that shows this code is going to accept any and all input

A lot of cfc's using init and 'good' OO practices have functions like
getDSN(), setDSN('Blah') littered throughout. Can I ask any guru out
there why you wouldn't use simple get('keyname') and
 set('keyname','keyvalue') like the following?

   cffunction name=get access=public output=no
 returntype=any
   cfargument name=name required=true type=string
   cfreturn evaluate('variables.' arguments.name) /

   cffunction name=set access=public output=no

Then instead of littering your cfc with numerous getters / setter, you
have 2 methods that should be able to handle simple or complex values

Re: How to print directly from coldfusion code

2007-07-09 Thread Ian Skinner
First question, print where?

On what printer are you expecting the output to appear? Of course the
CF application server is only going to be able to access printers
available to the server it is installed on or the domain user it is
running under.

The next question, What are the capabilities of this printer and its
print driver?

Depending on the answer to the this question, will determine how this
can be done. Some network printers are capable of watching a directory
and printing anything that is placed into it. Thus it would be very
easy to have this scheduled task move a file into the watched directory
for it to be printed,.

I have just run into this as well. Turns out that you can enable line
numbers by going to Window-Preferences-CFEclipse-Editor-Show Line

My personal approach would be to use the print.exe executable found on windows
machines via the cfexecute tag.

Print.exe syntax: PRINT [/D:device] [[drive:][path]filename[...]]

So something like this should work:

cfdirectory action=list directory=c:\printDir\ name=myDir /
cfoutput query=myDir
   cfexecute name=c:\windows\system32\print.exe
arguments=/D:\\networkPrinter c:\printDir\#myDir.name# timeout=5 /
/cfoutput

But I used it once. Do you have an eFax acct and access to a FAX machine?

If you do you can efax the result to your fax machine and in effect,
print your reports.

It's not a highly cost effective strategy, but it does work.

Best way to read a zip file?

2007-07-09 Thread Johnny Le
Hi,

What is the best way to find out the size (in bytes) of a zip file? I use
cffile to read it and then use the len() method but this is so insufficient.
When the zip file is reaching 100 MB, it crashes my server.
java.util.zip.ZipFile has a size() method, but it says it returns the number of
entries in the zip file instead of size in bytes. So I don't know what to do.
Help, please!
Thanks.

Johnny
