ColdFusion required and optional

2008-04-04 Thread erik tom
Hi guys.
How can i achieve the following. I have 11 courses. I need to determine which
course is required for the person and it has been taken or not.

For example i have a person he requires to take 3 out of 11 courses. He
completed 2 so far . When i do the following It does give me the completed
courses, but also marked the optional courses as reuired that need to be done.
All I need is to show which course he has left over (X) and marke the rest as
(optional). This is the challange thta I am facing

 Flex is ONLY client-side. It must communicate with a server via AMF (Flash

There is a pure-ActionScript connector for MySQL for Flex, allowing it to
connect directly.
And AIR lets you run Flex code like an application.
So you could write server-side tools in it, though it has no way to listen on
a port.

i'm lost. i cannot pass both id and title using the valueList method?

the populate() method is the closest i have got yet. its just that the
values are not included in the form submit.

You only need the value. When the containers are bound, qForms will search
through the option/ tags to find matching values.

OT Eclipse and Subversion

2008-04-04 Thread Dominic Watson
Hi all, I'm using eclipse with subclipse and have noticed a strange
behaviour. When I checkout a repository into a new project, the project
always gets marked as different from the repository. When I go to commit the
apparent change to the code, all I see is the root folder to which I have
commited the repository.

I do not get this behaviour if I checkout with Tortoise SVN though this
happens as soon as I create a project in Eclipse that points to the working
copy created.

Anyone know what is going on?

Feel free to email me offlist if you have questions. I'm in the middle of
building an HTML/JS AIR application using the jQuery library. I found that

Hi All

Thanks for all ur reply

I am planning to learn building application using Flex and AIR also app
using HT/ JAX/JS

 It is not as easy as just showing example code. Flex/AIR is a
 different beast compared to CF.

 I just took the Lynda.com training on Actionscript for Flex and Flex 3.
 This will get you use to the language first.

 Then you can look into using remoteObject to connect to your CFC's via
 the flex gateway on the CF server.

 Here is some sample code of using remoteObject if you really want to
 dive in head first:

Re: Breadcrumb navigation CF Tutorial

2008-04-04 Thread Nisher
I am just in the procss of attempting a similar breadcrumb trail for the
navigation system of one of the sites I am working on. the big difference in
mine that i see is that there is no strict folder system and there are too many
navs that share sub files to make a proper file system in that sense. do you
know if the methods supplied in this thread would be usefue in my case?

Or do the same but use CGI.SCRIPT_NAME which for that example would give you

/Florida/East Coast/Miami/Hotels.cfm

So its just a case of

CFSET lstBreadCrumb = ListDeleteAt(CGI.SCRIPT_NAME,
ListLast(CGI.SCRIPT_NAME, /), /)

Then loop over the list to your specific formatting requrements

HTH

so if we had a file with the following url:

/Florida/East Coast/Miami/Hotels.cfm

we could assume that the breadcrumbs/waymarker line would say

Home  Florida  East Coast  Miami

The page name would be Hotels

To get the path for the current page, you could use the
GetDirectoryFromPath(GetBaseTemplatePath())

To get the file for the current page, you could use the
GetFileFromPath(GetBaseTemplatePath())

You will need to know the default path to know how much of the front of
the path to throw away.

For example, if the path is
g:\inetpub\wwwroot\Florida\EastCoast\Miami\hotels.cfm, you want to get rid
of g:\inetpub\wwwroot\.

You could place this in the Application.cfm file as a global variable.
cfset defaultPath=g:\inetpub\wwwroot\

then remove this from the path, and treat the path as a \ delimited list.

Does any of this make sense?

Jerry Johnson

I'm thinking we are going to used directory based file location.

Luis

Are your sections defined by

directory based file location
fuseaction dependancy trees
sitemap tree
file naming convention
extra sgml/xml/comments in the cfm file itself
other
?

Jery

 Does anyone know of a good tutorial on creating breadcrumb navigation
 with CF?

I guess what is meant is this

your are here: home - section - subsection - more sub sections

OT: Bug in Adobe AIR apps when used with FDMSBridge.swf

2008-04-04 Thread Andy Matthews
I've been working on an HTML/JS based AIR application for my company, a sort of
one-way instant messenger. It will allow managers and IT staff to instantly
push messages to all employees using BlazeDS.

It's been a long road due to the fact that neither HTML based AIR apps, nor
BlazeDS itself have all that much real-world documentation. I'd finally gotten
everything working in a test environment when I went to port the working code
into my already working transparent, custom chrome AIR app. Then it stopped
working. The same exact code would not work at all.

After manipulating code for the better part of a day, I found the reason, or at
least part of it. It appears that an AIR app which uses the FDMSBridge.swf
provided by Adobe WILL NOT work when the app has transparency. I took the
following steps to test this behavior and it worked (or didn't work) as
expected in all cases.

In my sample app
-
1) I opened my sample code (without transparency), and compiled it.
2) I pushed a message to the gateway and the message was successfully received
in the app.
3) I then changed the transparency setting in the App.xml file from false to
true and recompiled the app.
4) I pushed another message to the gateway and received nothing.

In the final app
-
1) Transparency was already set to true, so I compiled the app
2) I pushed a message to the gateway, and received nothing.
3) I then changed transparency to false, recompiled the app
4) Pushed a message and successfully received it.

Further, when the app first loads, it correctly displays the alert window when
transparency is set to false, but not when it's set to true.

Here's a small code sample:

FDMSLibrary.load(FDMSBridge.swf, initBlazeDSCode);

function initBlazeDSCode() {
alert('why me');
var cs = new ChannelSet();
cs.addChannel(new
AMFChannel(cf-polling-amf,http://domainname.com/flex2gateway/cfamfpolling;));
consumer = new Consumer();
consumer.setDestination(ColdFusionGateway);
consumer.addEventListener(message, messageHandler);
consumer.setChannelSet(cs);
consumer.subscribe();
}

function messageHandler(e) {
alert('got a message! I GOT A MESSAGE!');
}

RE: some issue while increment/decrement value of product in a shopping cart

Well you are obviously looping over your entire cart and adjusting the
quantity of each item when the buttons are clicked. The buttons are also
very generically named which makes me believe that they aren't tied to
individual items in anyway.

Hi Bob,

Thank you for your prompt answer ,
In deed I do loop in to all the Session content, but how can I provent that

before I did add that increase / decrease feature , customers add to manualy
change the quantity field value to upgrade it and it was working and not
affecting the all session content

the code was

 cfelseif Isdefined ('FORM.update_button.y')
cfloop from=1 to=#ArrayLen(SESSION.cart)# index=i
 cfset SESSION.cart[i].quantite = FORM[quantite_  i] /
/cfloop
 cflocation url=contenu_commande.cfm

the only thing I did is to duplicate the fucntion and add the increase /
decrease build in function to it.

Update a Current 32/64 bit installation?

2008-04-04 Thread Richard Colman
After a considerable amount of work, we FINALLY got a mixed installation
running successfully; i.e. 64-bit Windows 2003 server running 32-bit IIS in
emulation mode with CF8 running OK * AND * .NET applications running (3.5)
in 32-bit mode. It is FINALLY working.

So, now the 8.0.1 update comes out. This means that I probably need to:

* uninstall CF8 32-bit
* turn off 32-bit IIS emulation
* reinstall the .NET runtimes for 64-bit
* recomnpile all the .NET installations

Etc. etc.

I am wondering whether I should just leave it as-is and not worry about the
update? It looks like if I do not do the update now, then I may not be able

Coldspring Question

Hey Guys-

I'm fairly new to this whole Coldspring business, so I apologize if this

that session-persisted object into another object/bean. Say, for

We actually had an IIS AND Apache parallel web server installation running

I really want to avoid work-arounds, bells and whistles, tricks, etc. We are

ColdSpring is best suited for managing the CFCs that need to be in

Windows 2003 + CF8 = 401.3 Error

2008-04-04 Thread Erik Olsen
Hi all,

I am hoping someone can help me out here. I have been trying to install CF8 on
my new Windows 2003 virtual dedicated server. I use the Standalone Server
configuration, installed on all IIS websites. After the install I am getting
401.3 errors when I try to access the CF Administrator or Plesk login.

I recently reprovisioned the server, so everything is back to the original
state, before the CF install.

Here is the IP address of my server: http://208.109.83.61/
An example site hosted on my server: http://www.modologies.com/

It is a GoDaddy server, and it seems like it has to do with user permissions.
Unfortunately, user permissions in Server 2003 is not my strong suit.

There are some documented cases I found in a google search but none of them
really provided any results. I am hoping someone can point me in the right
direction. I think it is in regards to this problem:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321390/en-us. It could also be something in
regards to this as well:
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=a9eb1badsliceId=1

Plesk and the one website I have setup in Plesk continue to work, until the CF8
install reaches this point: Installing Web Server Connectors

EDIT: I should note, if someone has experience installing CF8 in Windows 2003
Server, I will give you the details to Remote Desktop to my server. If you
describe the problem and how you fixed it i'll PayPal you some cash (like $50
or something)...

Thanks,
-Erik

OOOPS Wrong list. This is not a ColdFusion application. It's actually
a Perl port. I meant to send this to community because so many of you
out there are just knowledgable and well versed in many technologies.

It so saves me from having to find a different support list for every
little different thing I run across. Especially one off tasks such as this.

RE: Bug in Adobe AIR apps when used with FDMSBridge.swf

2008-04-04 Thread Kevin Aebig
Wow... that's really strange. I'm assuming it most likely has to do with how
the wrapper deals with a loaded SWF when transparency is on.

Is there a debugger you can use to diagnose this? Could you load the bridge
in a separate native window outside the screen coordinates?

I'm not saying this is a solution, but your application sounds like
something that would port over to Flex pretty well.

Cheers,

Subject: OT: Bug in Adobe AIR apps when used with FDMSBridge.swf

I've been working on an HTML/JS based AIR application for my company, a sort
of one-way instant messenger. It will allow managers and IT staff to
instantly push messages to all employees using BlazeDS.

It's been a long road due to the fact that neither HTML based AIR apps, nor
BlazeDS itself have all that much real-world documentation. I'd finally
gotten everything working in a test environment when I went to port the
working code into my already working transparent, custom chrome AIR app.
Then it stopped working. The same exact code would not work at all.

After manipulating code for the better part of a day, I found the reason, or
at least part of it. It appears that an AIR app which uses the
FDMSBridge.swf provided by Adobe WILL NOT work when the app has
transparency. I took the following steps to test this behavior and it worked
(or didn't work) as expected in all cases.

In my sample app
-
1) I opened my sample code (without transparency), and compiled it.
2) I pushed a message to the gateway and the message was successfully
received in the app.

Further, when the app first loads, it correctly displays the alert window
when transparency is set to false, but not when it's set to true.

Here's a small code sample:

FDMSLibrary.load(FDMSBridge.swf, initBlazeDSCode);

function initBlazeDSCode() {
alert('why me');
var cs = new ChannelSet();
cs.addChannel(new
AMFChannel(cf-polling-amf,http://domainname.com/flex2gateway/cfamfpolling
));
consumer = new Consumer();
consumer.setDestination(ColdFusionGateway);
consumer.addEventListener(message, messageHandler);
consumer.setChannelSet(cs);
consumer.subscribe();
}

function messageHandler(e) {
alert('got a message! I GOT A MESSAGE!');
}

Re: Deleting Attachments Immediately After CFMAIL

2008-04-04 Thread Nathan Wells
It looks like this has been addressed in ColdFusion 8.0.1; from the release
notes: The cfmail and cfmailparam tags now have a remove attribute that tells
ColdFusion to
remove any attachments after successful mail delivery.

Complete release notes:
http://www.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/coldfusion/801/cf801releasenotes.pdf

 Nathan Wells wrote:
  Does anybody know how attachments work in CF 8?

 Same as in 7.

  Has anyone heard of future plans by Adobe to allow attached files to
 be automatically deleted after the spool file has been processed.
 Maybe something similar to the cfcontent tag?
cfmailparam file=#theFullFilePath# delete=yes

 I like that idea. Did you submit it? http://www.adobe.com/go/wish/

  And finally, has anyone ever tried to somehow force the contents of
 the file into the body of the email so it is indeed written to the
 spool file?

 I couldn't get it to work with the CF mail spool. It is pretty easy to

 use another mail spool or Javamail.

Another good option is to look at Apache Solr, which is a really nice
web-service style wrapper around Lucene. I've used it on a couple of

RE: some issue while increment/decrement value of product in a shopping cart

2008-04-04 Thread Bobby Hartsfield
You don't notice the one big difference between before and after?

The old code updated a cart items quantity based on the corresponding form
fields value.

There are a few ways to do it... one way would be to give each cart item its
OWN form. Use the +/- as the submit buttons. Hide the cart item id in a
hidden field for each form so you know which item to adjust then just +1 or
-1 based on which submit button was clicked.

cfloop from=1 to=#ArrayLen(SESSION.cart)# index=i

form action=#cgi.script_name#?#cgi.query_string# method=post
input type=hidden name=cartItemID value=#i# /
input type=submit name=increaseQTY value=+ /
input type=submit name=dereaseQTY value=- /
#SESSION.cart[i].ItemName#
/form
br /
/cfloop

cfif isdefined('form.increaseQTY')

cfset val(SESSION.cart[FORM[cartItemID]].quantite) =
val(SESSION.cart[FORM[cartItemID]].quantite) + 1 /

cfelseif isdefined('form.decreaseQTY')

cfset val(SESSION.cart[FORM[cartItemID]].quantite) =
val(SESSION.cart[FORM[cartItemID]].quantite) - 1 /

/cfif

form.increaseQTY.y and form.decreaseQTY.y if you use images for the plus and
minus

Hi Bob,

Thank you for your prompt answer ,
In deed I do loop in to all the Session content, but how can I provent that

before I did add that increase / decrease feature , customers add to manualy
change the quantity field value to upgrade it and it was working and not
affecting the all session content

the code was

 cfelseif Isdefined ('FORM.update_button.y')
cfloop from=1 to=#ArrayLen(SESSION.cart)# index=i
 cfset SESSION.cart[i].quantite = FORM[quantite_  i] /
/cfloop
 cflocation url=contenu_commande.cfm

the only thing I did is to duplicate the fucntion and add the increase /
decrease build in function to it.

thank you for your help

Re: cfForm binding text field, visible to checkbox

2008-04-04 Thread Sonny Savage
OK, it was an issue of value typing. This works:
cfform format=flash width=500
cfinput name=FieldOne type=text label=Field One width=60 /
cfinput name=FieldTwo type=text label=Field Two width=60 /
cfinput name=FieldTotal type=text label=Field Total
bind={(FieldOne.text * 1) + (FieldTwo.text * 1)} width=60 /
/cfform

I don't know ActionScript very well, so there may be a better way of casting
the values. The total field with show 'NaN' if the other fields are empty
or not numeric.

I've been on the phone (getting the run around) with Adobe all day. They do
Officially support the Win2008/CF8 configuration. I haven’t been able to
verify it's truly 64bit though. In their 8.01 update installation instructions
(released only yesterday) it states:

The 64 bit installer for windows is CF801_Win64.exe.

Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to locate that file. I think you need the
enterprise version to download it. Unfortunately ,I've only got the standard
edition. But I'll keep hammering Adobe until they cough it up!

session variables, you need something to make sure that those variables
are present on the cluster instance the request is directed to. That can
be stcky sessions (always the same cluster instance), session
replication (variables on all instances), or both.

Hello Paul, turns out that ActionScript has a Number() function which does
what you needed.

I've never used flash forms before, so this may seem like a silly question,
but when I display this form the first two fields are empty rather than
having the value of zero. Why is that?
cfform format=flash width=500
cfinput name=FieldOne type=text label=Field One validate=float
value=0 width=60
cfinput name=FieldTwo type=text label=Field Two validate=float
value=0 width=60
cfinput name=FieldTotal type=text label=Field Total
enabled=false bind={Number(FieldOne.text) + Number(FieldTwo.text)}
width=60

Re: gettext and coldfusion

2008-04-04 Thread Jochem van Dieten
Dmitrii Dimandt wrote:
 Is it possible to use GNU gettext from Coldfusion?

What exactly do you want to achieve?

1. You can pretty easily write your own gettext() function to
substitute the strings in your CF code with the strings from a .po.
2. Automated extraction of your source strings (i.e. xgettext) has no
builtin support for ColdFusion. YST is the closest match I found, if you
are careful with single vs. double quotes it should come close.
3. Reading a .po into a structure is not that hard either.

You need to make products_selected a container too:
objForm.products_selected.makeContainer(products_available);

(You don't want it a dummy container, you want it a real container.) It's
the making it a container part that tells qForms to select all the options
in the select box before submitting to the server.

RE: Dynamically adding subdomains to apache

2008-04-04 Thread Brad Wood
I'm no expert, but I'm pretty certain you would have to programmatically
edit httpd.conf (or generate a file which is included) and then restart
Apache for those changes to be seen.

Alternatively, you could simply setup *.yourdomain.com as a catch all
and then put an if statement in your CF to look at
listfirst(cgi.server_name).

accessible to screen reading software. All went well until I logged in to
their control panel. A rude surprise awaited me once I was logged in as next
to nothing could be done by one using adaptive technology. After attempting
to find a solution with one of their tech support folks I decided to cancel
the account due to the inaccessibility of their control panel with screen
reading software. I told them to be sure my $200.00+ is credited back to my
credit card, and that they work with screen reader users to ensure that the
Cpanel and other custom packages they develop can be used independently by
us. Since they're in Denver Colorado they have the resources and technical
know-how of the Colorado Center for the Blind, located in Littleton, at
their doorstep. They could work with the CCB to ensure that future upgrades
to their Web interfaces are completely usable by the blind and others who
use adaptive solutions for computer access. For your information the CCB'S
URL is:
http://www.cocenter.org

Andy Matthews please don't take this ppersonally as your intentions were
good. This is something you and others here have little or no knowledge of.
Again thanks for the recommendation.

This leaves me still in need of a Cf8 Reseller account with a usable control
panel. Helm, Cpanel, and Plesk work well with screen readers. If any of you
canpoint me to any CF8 hosts that use those three control panels that will
be a big help. I'd like to be set up with a new ColdFusion 8 reseller
account by the end of the month and have my $200.00+ back in my bank
account. Again thanks for your assistance.

 written for a much older version of Lucene. It is still pretty much
 required reading if you want to delve in deep.

 After this, the Lucene-User list has been invaluable:

 If you ask a lot of n00b questions though, expect to see responses such as
 Have you read Lucene in Action?, but generally people are very helpful.

   Can you do a more like this functionality using full text search?
  Can you have it parse your keywords automatically?

  Probably not. It didn't look that smart from what I saw. That project
 got
  back burnered before I was able to really dig in. I will be revisiting
 it
  in the future, and you have definitely picked (sp?) my interest.

  I take it you have delved into Lucene. Would you be as kind as to point
 to
  any resources you found helpful?

  Many TIA,

   IMHO Lucene is far more capable, although requires some custom Java
   programming and external indexing.

James,
MSSQL's full text search is very capable, flexible and can most
  probably
do
what what you are looking to do. It can also index documents using
  MS's
indexing services.

Re: Coldspring Question

2008-04-04 Thread Mike Kear
The answer is to have a component that IS session-aware. It keeps
all the access of the session scope to one CFC and allows all the
other cfcs that require information from the session scope to have
that injected in by Coldspring.It's called a facade. It separates
the other cfcs from the session scope. They dont know about the
session scope, dont need to know and dont care. All they know is that
the information they require is provided when it's required. The
same would also apply to any other scope too.

Here's what's in my UserService.cfc:

cfcomponent displayname=UserService output=no hint=Service
facade for the User functions
cffunction name=getUser access=public
returntype=cfcs.Users.user output=false hint=Collects the current
user's user bean from the session scope and returns it
cfreturn session.user /
/cffunction
/cfcomponent

This is the only CFC with knowledge of the session scope.You could
also have methods that access the client scope if you use client
variables or application vars as well if that's relevant to your app.
(altough i pass in application vars with a configbean but that's a
similar concept.).

The Coldspring.xml file has these items in it :

beans
!--   configuration   --
bean id=configbean class=cfcs.config.configbean
constructor-arg
name=argsConfigXMLnamevalue/cfcs/config/AdminConfig.xml/value/constructor-arg
/bean

bean id=ProductDAO class=cfcs.Merchandise.ProductDAO
constructor-arg name=argsConfigurationref
bean=configbean//constructor-arg
property name=UserServiceref bean=UserService
//property
/bean
/beans

Then in the various CFCS like for example the products DAO:

cfcomponent displayname=Products DAO output=false
!--- Constructor ---
cffunction name=init access=Public returntype=MerchProductDAO
output=false hint=Initialises the controller
cfargument name=argsConfiguration required=true
type=cfcs.config.configbean /
cfset variables.dsn = arguments.argsConfiguration.getDatasource() /
cfreturn this /
/cffunction

cffunction name=setUserService access=public output=false
returntype=void hint=Dependency: User Service
cfargument name=UserService type=admin.cfcs.users.UserService
required=true/
cfset variables.UserService = arguments.UserService/
/cffunction

And throughout the DAO whenever a part of the session scope is needed,
you do this .. (for example in the products DAO, the INSERT and UPDATE
methods require the userid of the person causing the action to take
place, for the audit trail) you have the following:

updatedby  = cfqueryparam
value=#variables.userService.getUser().getUserId()#
cfsqltype=cf_sql_varchar/

It seems very convoluted and long-winded at first. But if you just
humour me for a while and go with it, you'll see that eventually the
light comes on and you see what a terrific benefit it is to separate
your CFCs completely from needing to know about anything except what's
told to them when they're instantiated.

In the example I've given, ProductsDAO doesnt know anything about the
session scope. It doesnt need to . IT's got a service injected.

Suppose you have dozens or maybe even hundreds of CFCs scattered
through your site, and your IT architect decides that user
information is now going to be stored in the client scope instead of
the session scope.

What you'd do is quote them for 6 weeks work, on the basis that it's a
major upheaval to the basic infrastructure, spend 5 minutes changing
and testing the facade UserService.cfc, spend a couple of days
playing computer games, read a book, write a personal site, update
the site for your hobby, write your blog, work at home for 4 weeks,
 and then give them the bill for $15 grand for 6 weeks work.

Cheers

  Hey Guys-

   I'm fairly new to this whole Coldspring business, so I apologize if this
   is a glaringly obvious question. I have an intranet application that has

   persisted in the session scope. Is it possible to have Coldspring inject
   that session-persisted object into another object/bean. Say, for
   example, I have an object that needs to return information based on the
   current user.

   Thanks for your help!

Stricter OO Properties in cfcs

2008-04-04 Thread Dominic Watson
I recently blogged on this theme using AOP as a possible solution and
found my approach a little heavy going to use.

However, I've since come up with something far more concise, useable and
that has other uses along the lines of AOP (but not AOP!).

http://fusion.dominicwatson.co.uk/2008/04/stricter-oop-without-aop-sort-of.html

I'd be interested to hear your constructive critisism ;)
