Re: Images Inside of CFDocument Look Awful/Fuzzy
When I attempt to generate the PDF, however, the images are fuzzy, unsharp, and some appear to have compression artifacts. 1) Has anyone noticed this? 2) If so, how did you fix it? How can you get crisper images from the PDF generated from CFDocument? It's because the images are too small/low quality for printing/PDF. You will need larger, higher-quality images... probably about 4-5 times larger. For example, if you want your image to be 30x20 pixels, you might need the original image file to be 150x100, and then do: img src=my150x100.img alt=whatever style=width:30px;height:20px;/ (You might want to experiment to see how small you can get away with - when I last did this, it appeared that the images were stored uncompressed in the PDF, so filesizes were quite large.) ~| Adobe® ColdFusion® 8 software 8 is the most important and dramatic release to date Get the Free Trial http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;207172674;29440083;f Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/message.cfm/messageid:314763 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.4

coldfusion8 is amazing!
It's no wonder why so many developers like it (no, not meant to apple-polish Adobe), just a quick reflection. Just tried silient installation of cf8 on XP Home edition beta 2 (unfortunately can't find a XP Home Edition -- released copy and can't wait to purchase it over the net...), installation took only about 5/6 minutes. The only thing is, for the last step, I tried to verify its success by going to the cf admin, upon login, it did some wizard migration thing, it seems all good. I'm just wondering if this last step is also included in the silent installation process, but I was impatient. Upon re-examination of the the properties file, I did not find any reference about a default web server, hmm? Thanks. RE: LDAP Query Performance question
My current process is to query AD using CFLDAP. That returns about 5,500 user objects. Then, I loop over those results and perform a CFQUERY to a SQL 2005 database. Our SQL server is pretty beefy, so we haven't had any performance issues. My goal of this process is to compare names, titles, phones, addresses, etc, from AD to the daily-updated information in SQL. If any one of the data attributes is different, then I perform an LDAP update to refresh that particular user object. It does take a few minutes to run, however, I have found a faster method of connecting AD directly to SQL Server. When I get some time, I'm going to rewrite this process to actually join AD and the SQL table and compare the data in one swoop rather than thousands of swoops. Then, I will be able to schedule this as a SQL job and take the full load of of ColdFusion. Until then, it doesn't hurt a thing. RE: LDAP Query Performance question
Would it help if you used some sort of group membership? For example, your SQL query would add all accounts to a domain group, or remove accounts, as needed. Then, you would just pull all members of that group in one CFLDAP query. I do something similar to this every morning. My process determines who is an active employee, faculty or student. I have a SSIS job that pulls current employment information from our HR system. It then checks to see if each employee is a member of our Current Employees domain group. If it is not a member, it adds them. Conversely, it also checks to see if any group members are no longer employed. If not, they are removed from the domain group. The result is the domain group is competely updated every morning. Performance is high, because group membership does not change greatly on a daily basis. You may add/drop a member here and there, but the entire group is usually not completely changed. mike -Original Message- From: Burns, John D [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, November 03, 2008 9:31 AM To: cf-talk Subject: RE: LDAP Query Performance question See, I'm doing the opposite. I am trying to create a postal code and delivery cost app for my company, I have set the tables up as tbl name au_zones: au_zone_id, au_zone(postal zone), au_basic(min cost), au_costpk(cost per kilo) tbl name postCodes: post_code_id, postcode(postal code), pc_zoneid(link to au-zones) tbl name products: productid, product_name, weight. The calculation will come from postcode to zone au_basic+(au_costpk*product_weight) The user will use a form with a text box for post code and a select box for products (multiples should be allowed). When the user fills out and submits the form my products query will have 1 or multiple records, so i relise i will have to loop throught the query to get the individual product weights. This is where my knowledge needs enlightening, how do i loop throught the query and and reference the weight against the au_costpk field from for every product found, and then display it to the screen. Would i be on the right track using below? cfloop query=qryName cfset qryName.pdname = (qryname.weight*otherqryname.au_costpk)+otherqryname.au_basic /cfloop Any ideas? Re: How can you have a variable topmargin height on CF8 CFDOCUMENT so that you can have 2 differently sized headers?
I did find one possible solution that I don't like, but should support most report templates that need differently sized primary and secondary headers. I'm creating two cfdocumentsections with different topmargin values. Each cfdocumentsection has their own cfdocumentitem headers. The next step is to figure out roughly how many lines I can fit on the first page with all conditions met as there are a couple different formatting options we use for aggregate reports vs individual monthly summaries, etc. Then loop over the output previous to the cfdocument and parse it in two so you have a first page set and then the rest of it. May have to process the output twice, nearly doubling the processing time, but you get the dynamic headers =/ Really wish Adobe would address this.. It just seems crazy that you can't specify at least a 2nd level of margins. Another CF8 CFDocument problem here... With CF7, you could specify a cfdocument topmargin= value that was shorter than the height of the value going in the cfdocumentitem type=header. The cfdocitem header would just continue past and overlap the content below. This was fixed by adding a padding-top:XXX to the content so that on the first page it just shifted the content down a bit to accommodate for the first page having a larger header. However, in CF8, that same setup now shrinks the header so that everything fits within the size set in the cfdocument topmargin value. The problem here is that we have been using a PDF for invoicing that has a master header on the first page with our logo, company info, etc. Then on each subsequent page, a much shorter header with just the client name and the current page number. So in CF7, the cfdocument tag had a topmargin value of 1.5. This along with the extra padding from the top of the div holding the content below worked just fine. But now, I have to change the topmargin value to about 3.5 or in order to avoid the header shrinking smaller. So not a problem... until you get to the second page. Now on every following page, there is a large 2 gap between the header and content because of the new larger topmargin value. I've tried using CSS tricks like holding the header stuff in a div and trying height/padding/margin to force the content to appear larger, but now it seems that none of that works and CF scales/zooms the size of the header content to whatever percentage will fit in that topmargin value. I did read that CF8 uses the iText libraries and that via createObject you could modify margins with setMargins()... I believe this was on CFSearching.com. But I have yet to be able to find an example of how I can insert my cfscript code to only change the margins for the first page, or to only change the margins for all non-first pages. Has anyone made this work? This is quite a common layout design for things CFDocument could be used for.. I have to imagine that someone else has run into the same problem? Thanks in advance, I love cfpdf for its populate feature, so I really want to be able to make that move to CF8 =/ ~| Adobe® ColdFusion® 8 software 8 is the most important and dramatic release to date Get the Free Trial http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;207172674;29440083;f Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/message.cfm/messageid:314782 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.4

Cf8 bug?
Perhaps you've ran into this before. Within a cfc I'm simply looping over a query object and using the ID value from the query to call an external cfc method that eventually calls a method contained within the same CFC as the code below appears. The problem is that using dot notation or array syntax I'm getting strange behaviour. It seems that while I've created an array [ daNums ] that shows on output that the right number IS being returned and USED, that when I use that same ID value to retreive my object, its returning the same object for each iteration of the loop. for example the first time through it gets a value of (1) which corresponds to an particular object, then (2). But with the code below I am always getting (2)(2). Not (1)(2). Or when I use array notation I always get [1][1]. For some reason it seems things are not iterating properly. Looks to me like you need a row number in your query call Consider this code: local[qryItems][id]) This will always get the first row - yes? Since you are in a loop... Shouldn't this be just id (wich would give you local.qryItems['id'][currentrow]). I would also say that you better have a darn good reason for doing it this way... Hi all, Man, I have been pounding the job boards here in Atlanta, but seems like all positions are for .Net or PHP. This begs to ask the question is Coldfusion still alive in the Atlanta, area.
