Creating ColdFusion Archive (car) files on a Solaris system.

2009-05-21 Thread Ian Skinner

Is there anything different about creating ColdFusion Archive (CAR)
files on a Solaris Unix system? I have done this many times on Windows
systems with no difficulty. But I can not do so on our Solaris system.
ColdFusion says everything is working fine and completing successfully,
but when I look for the .car file it is not to be found.

TIA
Ian

RE: Cold Fusion Twitter API for CF 5.X

2009-05-21 Thread UXB Internet

Philip,

To be more specific, you can use plaintext REST calls to interact
 with the Twitter API.

I haven't delved into the API in detail as of yet and hoped someone had
already developed a tag or routine that did the heavy lifting. The client
wants it to be built into his website administration tool and essentially be
able to post automatically formatted updates to THEIR twitter page as
content is added to the website.

Twitter passwords, which they might not want to divulge.

For newer versions of CF, use oAuth. Let me know if you need help with
this - I've got it working.

I know about the ColdFusion Twitter Lib at RIAForge however it is a CFC

will not operate on CF5. Pathetic I know but that is what the client
 wants.

Yes Ian there is a difference between Solaris and Windows car files.
The difference is between using \ and / for directory paths!

Perhaps the ColdFusion server runtime user does not have permission to write
to the directory indicated for creating the car file? Try creating it in
the /tmp directory as a test.

reading Querytable Data from struct

2009-05-21 Thread Priya Koya

Hi All,

I am consuming a .net webservice where I am converting dataset.
I get the response back with query table in a struct.

Generally when we read a query and the return type is query .. but here I have
a query table in struct.

How do I read the data from the response querytable in struct.

Thanks,

Re: reading Querytable Data from struct

Assuming I understand you correctly, you have something like mystruct.[some
other stuff].myquery Assuming IsQuery(mystruct.[some other stuff].myquery)
returns true, you should be able to use that just like you would any other
query (in cfloop, etc).

Calendar Application to Consolidate Many Nonprofit Organizations

2009-05-21 Thread Chris Montgomery

I am searching for a calendar application that can manage a consolidated
calendar for many nonprofit groups. The main web site (for an animal
welfare coalition) would display all events for multiple groups (say,
25-40 animal welfare agencies) and also allow each group to log in and
enter/manage their calendar of events. This main coalition site will be
developed using CF. The other part of the application would use web
services where each nonprofit group would display just their group's
calendar of events on their group's web site (which may or may not be
CF-based) and also allow them to login at their own web site and
enter/manage their group's calendar with the data residing on the main
site. I hope that description makes sense.

So, is anyone aware of such a beast? I would prefer such an app (if it
exists) be written in ColdFusion, but since I'm doing this for free, I
guess I can't be too picky. I originally thought to do this using Google
calendar but they seem to have a limit on being able to consolidate
calendars into one master calendar.

Appreciate any ideas.

Have you considered (Since your doing it for free) using Google Calendar?
It already has a ton of tools built into it, you would just need to
implement it on the site.

Other than that, you could look at the great CF based calendar Ben Nadel

Hi Alan,

Alan Rother said the following on 5/21/2009 4:44 PM:

Yes, as I mentioned in my original post, but my experience with this,
after some experimentation, is that it can't handle importing more than
about a half dozen calendars into one master calendar. I'll go back and
look at it again, though, since it's been almost a year since I last
played with it. Maybe they've bumped up the number of calendars that can
be merged into one.

Thanks for the lead, but this app (and others that I've looked at so
far) don't seem to have the ability to allow remote sites to display
their data or manage their calendar data except by logging into the one
site where it's running. I was just fishing to see if any such calendar
app exists that would allow this capability. I've not messed with web
services yet, so this might be my first leap into the frying pan. :)

Cheers.

Hi Chris. Our application (see www.citysoft.com) provides this kind of
functionality. It's CF based, but not free unless your client qualifies for
our donation program (www.citysoft.com/donationprogram). I expect you might
need to tweak it a bit to meet your exact requirements, but the scenarios
that you describe below are pretty well covered. Feel free to contact me
