by forcing them to either a) Pony up $299 for a product they don't
particularly like, b) look elsewhere (like Sublime or Brackets, as Ray

Because I was like that as well until I sucked it up and bought into
Eclipse / ColdFusion Builder. You get use to it, where DW is the odd kid on
the block at that turning point.

In an ORM world, ColdFusion Build can make a huge difference.

I'm not sure if you eventually like it more but you just end up liking it
to the point where it doesn't matter anymore and if you are in a team
environment with SVN or GIT, it's fairly simple to keep a lot of projects
in check.

records at a time and doing a new query to get all rows for those keys.

If you know you are going to have huge datasets shouldn't you also use
blockfactor?

my assumption is that while it might not speed things up, it's at
least clearing things out of buffer while it works on more records.

It's not really a secret, per se, but there's a quiet understanding among
many iOS app developers that it is acceptable to send a user's entire
address book, without their permission, to remote servers and then store it
for future reference. It's common practice, and many companies likely have
your address book stored in their database.

News to me but I guess I was a sheep following the herd.

Are you using MS SQL server? If so you only need one query which will still
output rows like the first query with OUTPUT.

  cfquery name=getEvents
   update t1
   set t1.enabled = 0
   OUTPUT inserted.ID, inserted.cfc, inserted.runMethod,
inserted.arguments, inserted.frequency, inserted.frequencytype
   from scheduledTasks t1
   inner join scheduledTasks t2
   on t1.ID = t2.ID
where t2.enabled = 1
  and t2.nextDate cfqueryparam cfsqltype=cf_sql_timestamp
value=#createodbcdatetime(Now())#
  and t2.startDate cfqueryparam cfsqltype=cf_sql_timestamp
value=#createodbcdatetime(Now())#
  and t2.endDate cfqueryparam cfsqltype=cf_sql_timestamp
value=#createodbcdatetime(Now())#
  /cfquery

If you can move your OnRequest logic to OnRequestStart and comment out

Using httpFox, when I click the button, this is the sequence:

 Method Result Type URL

The viewstate and eventvalidation are static values.

Now, normally I don't have any problem with redirects, but I cannot get to
the inspections page; the cfhttp keeps returning the disclaimer page. When I
look at the headers, the disclaimer_inspections.aspx page is receiving an
ASP.NET SessionID in the response header which is then being passed to the
 inspections.aspx

Do I need to grab that session ID manually? I thought I might have to do
that so I have tried to set redirect=false, but I can't get the session ID
 returned in the header

Any ideas, suggestions, references would be greatly appreciated.

Query limit

We do not have a specific daily limit but queries that are at a rate faster

everything will be normal. If you go over the limit, you will still get an
answer *for all queries* but they will be slowed down to about 1 per second.
Good programming practices such as not querying our API for all page views

No, it's saying if you use Flash Bulder, you should have a server setup with
RDS so you can develop, this is 99% of the time a local coldfusion install
with RDS.

Figure 1. Using CFCs in Flex application development

   1. First, you create the CFC function and set its access property to
remote. Then you use the Flash Builder Data Services wizard to connect to
   the CFC.
   2. The wizard actually goes out, retrieves the CFC, etc..

For wizards to work, you would need RDS accessible form somewhere
(localhost) but the end result is still a ColdFusion Component set to Access
Remote.

Hi,

This comes up from time to time and it's truly been a pain to
stop completely. I'm wondering what some of you are doing that could help me
fight this type of fraudulent activity.

I've got checks in place for ipAddress, use of similar names on or addresses
on multiple decline attempts, blocking when I can but still people continue
to prob card numbers to see if they are valid. I had one guy today try from
4 separate ip addresses. All different names and addresses and credit card
numbers but similar enough to know it was same person.

What else can be done here?

This is a services related website so nothing shipped which I'm assuming
makes it a better target.

I am tasked with doing an import on a file whose size can essentially

recently ballooned to 100 mb, and its going to get larger. Processing
time seems to be about 66 hours for a 45 mb file and thats a disaster.
For a 14mb file its about 90 minutes.

Whats happening is this: CF is looping over a very large number of
records that are in themselves fairly complex. The more records there
are, the longer the loop over them takes. More records + more time
per record = a seemingly geometric increase in processing time.

Are you using MS SQL 2005? Because throwing the XML file directly at SQL
server works a 1000% better. I've basically given up on processing large XML
files directly with coldfusion. IF you can save these xml files on the SQL
server you can make use of BulkInsert but that needs to read the file from
that server. OR just setup a stored procedure, send your xml over and let it
do it's thing.

cfhttp connection timeout - best way to loop or re-try?

2010-11-18 Thread Casey Dougall

Hi,

I have a cfhttp call in a cfc that from time to time receives a connection
timeout. I'd like to just retry the call again, but not sure of best way to
start the call over. I actually don't want to start the whole thing over,
just re-try the cfhttp call if it receives a connection timeout.

Maybe a cfloop 2 or 3 times? But I don't want it to loop right away, only if
it received a timeout.

Thoughts?

If this is MS SQL you can do this as well.

Right click the Database, select tasks, import data, select Excel as source

align the colums with the column names in the table, then run.

Yup, and you can throw all of them at the top of the script.

I'm not saying there isn't times you need to use StructKeyExists.
Readability is by far my biggest goal, the faster I can read though a
script, the less hassles I have with it as a whole, and cfparam allows you
to use a built in function to assist in setting up page variables.

Not saying there arn't times you should use StuctKeyExists, but if it was a
param to begin with, you already know the default value; That coupled with
StructKeyExists is a pain to type!

Before you can use your C++ compiler to build custom tags, you must enable
the compiler to locate the CFX API header file, cfx.h. In Windows, you do
this by adding the CFX API include directory to your list of global include
paths. In Windows, this directory is \cfusion\cfx\include. On UNIX this
directory is /opt/coldfusion/cfx/include. On UNIX, you will need -I *
includepath* on your compile line (see the Makefile for the directory list
example in the cfx/examples directory).

No. You can run IIS7 in IIS6 Compatibility mode.

Yes.

Especially if you're working with a large xml result set. It's s quick
to just stick it straight into the db.

No kidding, I had a task that was timing out, then did some research on XML
inside MS SQL, now it takes about 3 seconds if that I think it takes longer
to receive the reply from the API then it does for SQL server to insert the
records. Took a bit to grasp it, but wow, it's totally changed how I think
about managing XML

Even storing the straight XML in a column under XML data type is super cool!
it creates a link in Management studio that when clicked opens the XML in a
new window all color formatted and stuff.
