Re: (ot) barcodes and mobile sites

2014-04-22 Thread Matthew Allen

Hi Dave and all,

Excuse the dumb question, I fully understand how the QR code and reader works,
I've built a number of QR solutions, where I use it to direct users to PDFs and
videos resources, activities per file are stored in the database, as you can
capture url values.

I've never used barcode before, how does it work as far as storing info into a
database? Especially when using those physical barcode readers or even apps

  QR codes can launch a specific URL in the mobile browser. Is that what
  you're trying to do?

 Thanks Dave.not exactly, but that does spark another idea. Any idea
 if the URL can specify URL params as well (I assume so...just have not
 really used them much)??

Yes, they can. Anything you can put in a URL will work in a QR code.

Well, if they're regular barcodes, the Android barcode reader might be
able to read them just fine. I know that I've used mine to read
several different barcode formats. I don't remember which ones any
more because it was quite some time ago.

Regex question

2013-07-17 Thread Matthew Allen

I have a body of text as below:

body body body bodybodybody bodybody body body reference-link id=1
type=reference/ body body body
reference-link id=2 type=reference/body body body bodybody body body body
body

Is it possible to change the reference-link tag from a reference link tag
reference-link id=1 type=reference/ to a superscript as so sup1/sup,
basically getting the value of the id attribute of the reference link tag and
creating a superscript tag with the value.

Many thanks,

10 of file.pptx or on pages 10, 15 and 20 of file.pptx.

Windows 2008 r2 server(64 bit ) and Web services

2010-09-03 Thread Matthew Allen

Has anyone ran into endless loop problems whilst trying to invoke a web service
on windows 2008 server? I was barking up the wrong tree at first, I'd wrongly
assumed that it was the recently upgraded cf9.0.1 that was causing the problems
but ran the same code on a different server (Windows 2003, 32 bit) with CF9.0.1
installed and the code ran fine.

It's a simple web service invocation, no error is generated, just endless loop
till it times out. Any ideas?

cfscript
oBjWs   = CreateObject(webservice,
http://www.thewebsite/Users.asmx?wsdl;);

//this gets user details by ID..
ObjGetUser  = oBjWs.GetUserByID(theuserID);

variables.getFirstName  = ObjGetUser.getFirstName();
variables.getLastName   = ObjGetUser.getLastName();
variables.getID = ObjGetUser.getUniqueID();
variables.getEmail  = ObjGetUser.getEmail();
variables.getuserID = ObjGetUser.hashCode();

/cfscript

cfdump var=#variables.getFirstName# /

Many thanks,

Matt

Success!! if anyone is interested.

On closer inspection of the application logs I found the error below:

I googled and found this article written by Tom Jordhal in 2007
http://tjordahl.blogspot.com/2007/03/apache-axis-and-commons-httpclient.html.

By basically switching the pivot values below
from:
transport name=http
pivot=java:org.apache.axis.transport.http.CommonsHTTPSender/transport

To this:

transport name=http
pivot=java:org.apache.axis.transport.http.HTTPSender/transport
restarted the server, everything now works.

Stored Procedure or ORM

2010-08-07 Thread Matthew Allen

This is rather annoying, the software development manager of the company I work
for decreed yesterday that all (I mean ALL) web application we write in house
from yesterday on, must now all be stored proc. No more inline-SQL and no more
ORM because of one badly written ORM by a member of the team.

He has one valid reason in that we have one or two (not the majority of)
applications having the need to access data from different platforms (.NET, PHP
and CF).

Does he really have a solid argument when he said that ORM compared to Stored
Proc and inline SQL is really in-efficient? In his previous life he was a DBA,
is he stuck in the past? or am I paranoid to think that he is only keeping his
options open, options open in the sense that, strategically, he does not want
to be tied to CF or is it really true that ORM's despite its' obvious
advantages is not great compared to stored proc?

Thanks

Re: Anyone else have the latest CFBuilder crashing constantly?

2010-04-16 Thread Matthew Allen

 Hi Jason,

 Could you please check and re-confirm that you are on the final
 released build of ColdFusion Builder(CFB). There were stability issues
 in the Beta3 build but they were fixed post Beta3 and we had received
 feedback thereafter that the instability issues were resolved.

Spot on, I'm also on 64 bit windows 7, I had problems with Beta3 and
uninstalled it to download the latest version, absolutely worked like a dream.
The current project I'm doing also requires a lot of cutting and pasting of
thousands of lines of code, it seems to work very fine for me.

Re: OT Simple URL Rewrite

2009-09-05 Thread Matthew Allen

Or indeed:

^/test/www/(\d+)$ /test/www/index.cfm?id=$1

They way we are using *ionic* ISAPI rewrite means that it will always start
from the root of the domain. Perhaps lookup editing your hosts file so that
you can have like:

By the way I'm using ISAPI rewrite 3.0...in all it seems my initial regex
syntax is fine just the path is wrong?...

The syntax looks fine to me, I have not used ISAPI rewrite 3.0 fully though
- just MOD rewrite and Ionic's ISAPI rewrite (excellent and free). I do now
recall though that you can put your rewrite file anywhere with ISAPI rewrite
- so my bad on that one; I assume your rewrite rules sit in /test/www ? And
you have the full version?

OT Simple URL Rewrite

I've just been dabbling in URL rewriter using ISAPI rewrite version 3, I'm not

All I'm trying to do is rewrite http://127.0.0.1/test/www/index.cfm?id=450 to

Looking from past experience I came up with the syntax below but no luck, can
some please point me to the direction of what I'm doing wrong?

RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^index.cfm/(\d+)$ index.cfm?id=$1 [NC,L]

Thanks Adrian works like a charm...

cfset bothQueries = fnc_navigation(args go here)
cfset thisIsOneQuery = bothQueries.rs_navsFrontEnd
cfset thisIsTheOtherQuery = bothQueries.rs_navsAdmin

There are other ways, but this is one that'll work.

Regex wrapping div tags round img tags

2009-07-02 Thread Matthew Allen

Hi,

I'll really appreciate if anyone could help. I have image tags outputted to my
page from a database, what can I write to to wrap div tags round the img
tags so e.g;

img src=...images/jpgs/ducks.jpg alt= /

I would like to change it to;
div class=coverimg src=...images/jpgs/ducks.jpg alt= //div

Many thanks,

Matt

Re: Maintaining the order of HTML tags atrributes.

2009-06-01 Thread Matthew Allen

 So on database storage Replace(theString,table,tableplaceholder,
 ALL), then on output Replace(theStringFromDbase, tableplaceholder,
 table, ALL)something like that anyway..a bit of a hack but
 it might save you the hassle till you find something more suitable...

 Jide.

Thanks Jide should have thought of that..

Guys, both didn't work, XStandard is a very cool editor but didn't do the
trick. The place holder Jide suggested is fine on initial entry into the
database but once it's loaded again for subsequent edits the browser again re
orders the atrributes

There has got to be a way to re order/maintain HTML attributes...anyone?

Thanks,

Matt

Re: Maintaining the order of HTML tags atrributes.

2009-06-01 Thread Matthew Allen

Maybe I am missing something here, but why not just use the order that
FCKEditor uses? Then once it is save from FCKEditor, it would be in the
order that you want it. You know there is no way to modify FCKEditor's
behavior, so why not just make use of it as a known value?

Eric

That was the first thing that came to my mind but the source file displays
attributes randomly depending on what browser is used by the editor, to add to
the complexity the source file is from an external source (XML), so I'm
stripping the required text from the source file into the database using xpath,
it is the database content that are edited then compared with the content in
the xml file to see what was changed.

Whichever route I go e.g. changing the atrributes order in the original xml
file, I need to have control over the HTML attributes.

Re ordering HTML tag attributes

2009-05-30 Thread Matthew Allen

Hi

Is there anyway I can re-order HTML attributes? The problem I have is a weird
one, I am comparing body of strings, so basically I have some HTML stored in
xml, I extract the required xml using xpaths into a database, the stored HTML
in the database is then edited by users using FCKEditor, the edited version is
then compared with the original version (xml file) to see the similarity
between the bodies of the 2 strings, unfortunately FCKEditor changes the order
of all HTML attributes from the xml file before insertion into database, so
e.g. table border=1 cellpadding=2 cellspacing=2 class=lbits
 becomes table class=learning-bite border=1 cellspacing=2
cellpadding=2, same thing is done concerning image tags, tr, td...basically
any tag with attributes, so a little change in a chunk of text full of tables
and/or images exgerrates the changes on a page.

I guess I'm asking 2 questions in one, how can stop FCKEditor from changing
HTML attributes but if it's not possible (I've spent all week going down that
road)? How can I maintain the order of attributes in the original string into
the the edited chunk of text?

Thanks for any feedback.

Re: Maintaining the order of HTML tags atrributes.

2009-05-30 Thread Matthew Allen

Thanks Peter, I'll search for XStandard and see what I come up with.

 Alternatively, you could look for a WYSIWYG editor that works as a
 plugin (rather than relying on the browser) and see if that allows you
 to control order - search for XStandard and see if that will do what
 you want.

 Finally, if you can't get that to work, another potential solution is
 to change how you do the comparison - instead of comparing as XML text,
 convert to an XML object and compare nodes/attributes directly.

Is it safe to assume then that using stored procedure would have prevented the

Re: Question about hack

2009-04-10 Thread Matthew Allen

OK point taken, not safe with MySQL but fine with MSSQL? I just need to know if
I should start working on my old MS SQL codes, so far none have suffered with
injection attacks it might be by sheer luck or maybe all is well with it as it
is on a MS SQL server, right?

 Not necessarily. With the proper configuration of MySQL (multiple
 statements
 allowed, and \ escaping single quotes) your example below could be
 hacked.

Re: Question about hack

2009-04-10 Thread Matthew Allen

I've always had the impression that if you use stored procedure and so far it's
not dynamically built string you're fine, so like my example in previous post,
you put your query in MS SQL and use EXEC to call the query on your CF pages, I
sometimes Declare the parameter but most times it's like the way I've described
before. Should I stop everything I'm doing now and start editing my codes?!!
Luckily I'm less than 2 years in CF, I only have about 6 applications to worry
about..;

Stored Proc:
@uid uniqueidentifier
AS
BEGIN
SELECT ID,column1, column2..etc
FROM tbltable
WHERE UID = @uid END

CF Page:
cfquery name=doStuff datasource=#application.DSN#
DECLARE @Param1 varchar;
EXEC usp_getSomeData
@param = '#url.uid#'
/cfquery

Matt,

Why are you not using cfwqueryparam in the cf code below? Do you have a good
reason not to do so?

Cflayoutarea Question.

2009-03-09 Thread Matthew Allen

Hi,

This is my first ever foray into ajax in CF. If I have a set up as below;

cflayoutarea position=center name=center
   a href=## onclick=ColdFusion.navigate('page.cfm?id=#id#')nav 1/a
/cflayoutarea
cflayoutarea position=center name=center
   cflayoutarea title=TAB1 name=feedTabOne overflow=hidden /
   cflayoutarea title=TAB2 name=feedTabOne overflow=hidden /

/cflayoutarea

What do I do to make TAB2 opens when I click on the link, at the moment TAB2
does not open until I click on the TAB2 tab.

Thanks,

Merging 2 XML Files

2009-01-13 Thread Matthew Allen
I'm trying to combine the content of the two xml files below together

FILE 1
!DOCTYPE ArticleSet PUBLIC test.dtd
AritcleGroup
ArticleSingle
titleHIV Treatment/title
titleBody of Article/title
/ArticleSingle
/AritcleGroup

FILE 2
!DOCTYPE ArticleSet PUBLIC test.dtd
AritcleGroup
ArticleSingle
titleAnother article/title
titleBody of Article/title
/ArticleSingle
/AritcleGroup

Please see how the final file should like below, so I just need to get rid of
the !Doctype and the AritcleGroup node in 2 and then merge right under
the /ArticleSingle of file 1.

Final file
!DOCTYPE ArticleSet PUBLIC test.dtd
AritcleGroup
ArticleSingle
titleHIV Treatment/title
titleBody of Article/title
/ArticleSingle

ArticleSingle
titleAnother article/title
titleBody of Article/title
/ArticleSingle
/AritcleGroup

I've tried using file append...won't work
cffile action=append output=#FileRead(file2)# file=file1

Is Stored Proc that much of big deal?

2008-12-22 Thread Matthew Allen
I'm a programmer of 3 years now and only started coding in CF about a year ago
whilst my database knowledge is not that great one marked difference (my very
little experience anyway) from speaking to my CF colleagues is that most of
them refuses to use stored procedure or even views, their main point of
arguement is that cfqueryparam pre-compiles, does data type validation and
foils sql injection etc..

But coming from the other side (.NET C# realm), everything I did as far as SQL
was concerned was done in the database, it was also very easy to port some of
my C# code to CF and now vice-versa since my database logic was and is totally
separate from the code base.

Why not let database do what is was made for.am I missing something here?

 But you should know that those developers are full of crap about
 stored procedures being an old way of doing things.

I absolutely agree with you, we are best of mates but really don't listen to
them as far as database issues are concerned, as 80% of their websites suffered
massive injection attacks in the recent attacks of few months ago...I thought I
could convert them but I've given up:-)

2008-12-22 Thread Matthew Allen
Thanks Ian and Dave, it was my guess that these guys were just been really
stubborn, though more experienced than myself, it seems they are set in their
ways.

My understanding of SQL/Oracle Dbases is that you can use them to create extra
layers of security, like for example restricting user-level access to objects
within the database itself, much more efficient for doing calculations
etc...these guys just believes that stored proc is an old way of doing things
and that I should get stored proc out of my head...they believe cfqueryparam is
the solution to all problems.

I was starting to think I was going mad, especially when you have 5 against 1
(myself):-)..
