I know that it's no longer supported, but I'm looking to purchase a license for
ACF9. I have a few sites that moving onto a server with no included ACF
licenses. The sites are running under ACF9 and use many tags that are not
supported under Railo / Lucee.

I've seen licenses on eBay for $800 but those sellers are eventually removed
for whatever reason.

Hoping someone here has access to a license they no longer need.

Thanks,

Mik

Hi Steve

One other thing if you are using a windows platform.
CF11 is now built on Tomcat. Not much of a problem EXCEPT that some (but not
all) file names will be case sensitive in some applications. Wasted a day on
that
one trying to debug an application that had worked fine on CF9.

I use Sublime as well and love it for its simplicity.

However, believe you can do real debugging with CF Builder. That may be a perk
worth consideration.

I do agree, changing dev methodologies can be time consuming, so maybe start
off using it in your free time to get used to things.

 Then use the Linux mod_rewrite redirect below on the current www box
 and you should be good to go. Since you've got Linux on www, you
 could also install NGINX (which makes a great HTTP proxy server) or
 use Apache to proxy traffic to ww4 while maintaining the www in the
 URL. You'll need to enable some IIS settings to allow for proxying
 and set a www handler on that machine, but once you do, that's pretty much
 it.

 Apache Example with mod_proxy:

 Location /
 ProxyPass http://www4.esu.edu
 ProxyPassReverse http://www4.esu.edu
 SetEnv force-proxy-request-1.0 1
 Order allow,deny
 Allow from all
 /Location

 NGINX proxy example:

 server {
 listen   80;
 server_name  esu.edu www.esu.edu;
 access_log  /var/log/nginx/esu.edu.access.log  main;

 location / {
 proxy_pass http://www4.esu.edu:80;
 include /etc/nginx/proxy.conf;
 }
 }

Then use the Linux mod_rewrite redirect below on the current www box and you
should be good to go. Since you've got Linux on www, you could also install
NGINX (which makes a great HTTP proxy server) or use Apache to proxy traffic to
ww4 while maintaining the www in the URL. You'll need to enable some IIS
settings to allow for proxying and set a www handler on that machine, but
once you do, that's pretty much it.

Apache Example with mod_proxy:

Location /
ProxyPass http://www4.esu.edu
ProxyPassReverse http://www4.esu.edu
SetEnv force-proxy-request-1.0 1
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
/Location

NGINX proxy example:

server {
listen   80;
server_name  esu.edu www.esu.edu;
access_log  /var/log/nginx/esu.edu.access.log  main;

location / {
proxy_pass http://www4.esu.edu:80;
include /etc/nginx/proxy.conf;
}
}

 Is the current www4 a Linux or Windows machine? I would suggest
handling those at the web server level, with a 303 status code to let the
search engines know the redirect is temporary, rather than through the
application - with the exception of perhaps some dynamic redirects that need to
be changed on-the-fly. Much more efficiently handled at the web server level.

 Linux redirect to ww4 example:

 RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.esu\.edu [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)
http://ww4.esu.edu$1 [L,R=307]

 Windows IIS web.config redirect example:

 rule name=Redirect www2www4 temp stopProcessing=true
   match url=^(.*)$ ignoreCase=false /
   conditions logicalGrouping=MatchAll
   add input={HTTP_HOST} pattern=^(.*\.)www\.esu\.edu$
ignoreCase=true negate=true /
   /conditions
   action type=Redirect url=http://ww4.esu.edu/{R:1};
redirectType=Temporary / /rule

Forms going into Barracuda

2014-01-13 Thread Steve LaBadie

I have numerous forms on the website that are being delivered to specific local
email addresses. Generally they get delivered without issue. But on occasion a
form will consistently get delivered to the recipient SPAM.

I am being asked to insert some type of header record to indicate the message
is coming from a local form that guarantees a person completed the fields. They
will then have the SPAM filters key on the header and allow the message to be
delivered.

Not sure how to go about this. Any help would be appreciated.

Caching

Is there an inherent problem with CF caching pages or is this strictly a
browser and IIS issue. We updated our home page and are receiving complaints

We are up to version 10 of the server now, so no there is nothing about CF
specifically that is an inherent problem here.

If the homepage isn't resolving correctly that sounds on the surface like a
DNS issue, but perhaps you were using poorly chosen vocabulary to describe the
problem?

If you are also to give more detail about the exact error and/or behavior you
are seeing perhaps someone an help you.

One other idea here since this is only happening on campus... I know many
universities tend to have Big Brother Overlord types of content filters in
place. If your university has such a filtering device, it may be cacheing an
old copy of the CSS file somehow. This problem would manifest itself as being
only an inside the network problem.

In any case, changing the CSS file's name should resolve this too.

In situations like yours I would say the opposite. If you are developing on a
live server, you have no production machine, only a development one, deployed
in a production environment.

Really though, if you have a computer that you use every day, you should make
an effort to make that your development environment. CF will run fine on a
desktop or laptop.

If this is not possible in your case, I would look into emailing yourself the
errors, or perhaps writing them to a log (maybe they already are logged). If
you choose to email them, you might consider creating a mailbox just for the
errors so that a major mistake doesn't destroy your inbox.

Lastly, look into Hoth:

Subject: Fusion Reactor

We have had Fusion Reactor running for several months and for the first time
we are getting Crash Protection Alerts regarding memory usage. There are no
request running and when looking at Task Manager Performance we are showing
less than 50% memory. In FR it shows 33%. SO I am not sure what I should be
taking away from these alerts.

Any ideas or direction would be helpful

Not necessarily, but usually, yes. Recent versions of CF all have JRun 4, with

 The hotfixes and updates will fix many more issues than they will create.
 The only issue that seams to bite some folks is the session fixation
 patch, which should only cause a problem if you have multiple CF
 applications running on the same domain with different application
 names and using sessions.

In a nutshell, you need to:
- uninstall the web connectors using the Web Server Configuration Tool
- uninstall IIS 6 compatibility mode using Add/Remove Windows Features
- install CF 9.0.1
- reinstall the web connectors using the Web Server Configuration Tool

You do NOT have to uninstall CF itself.

If you want to use iis7 connector them you must remove the iis6 compatibility
mode remove all existing connectors, and then re-add them.
If iis6 compatibility mode is installed iy wil be used. If you use .net or
custom isapi modules then then iis6 compat mode can interfere with these too.

Handling Flat Files

2012-09-07 Thread Steve LaBadie

This question is in relation to a previous post I made about a lot of
request through port 51011. Was able to resolve a lot of the traffic by
caching. We are using a MySQL database and MX7 with an include file on
the home page which calls this file:

cfquery datasource=admin_panel name=etext
cachedwithin=#createTimespan(0,0,1,0)#

SELECT *

FROM emergency

WHERE active = 1

LIMIT 1

/cfquery

cfloop query=etext

section class=grid_11 push_4 mainContent
id=emergency

img src=/images/icons/template/exclamation-icon.png
id=emergencyIcon/

h2cfoutput#etext.title#/cfoutput/h2

cfoutput#etext.text#/cfoutput

/section

/cfloop

The traffic has reduced a lot but my System Admin is request that I use
a Flat File to reduce traffic even more. Never used a flat file before
or how CF would handle it. Any guidance would be appreciated.

10x more traffic? Yeah that will hit you where it hurts for sure. The
first advise I would give is to look at changing you code to use the
Google hosted version of these libraries:

 Also, the rich format of the new website is taxing the ColdFusion

Yes, 10x traffic will do that. :)

 When the website seems to stop, the number of connections to CF's port
 51011 increase from about 5 (average normal) to about 500.

This smells like CF is getting hung and IIS continues to send it
requests.
This leads to a dogpile effect on CF where it's still receiving new
requests from IIS but can no longer respond. This is usually due to a
problem with something getting hung up in your CF code, or with SQL. For
example, a SQL call that never comes back from the database, or some
CFHTTP calls that never hear back from their servers, or a CFLOCK tag
that's in a deadlock.

If this is in fact the problem - the best way to troubleshoot this is
install something like FusionReactor on the server and get a stack trace
while the error is occurring. This will quite literally give you the
exact line of ColdFusion code causing the problem. I'd bet a dollar that
it's one of the three things I mentioned above.

Well that doesn't match what you're looking for in your form

Why not use cfparams on the action page and default the values? You
can
even default their value to and then if it equals that inform the
user
they need to go back and choose one. Or in your form on either the Yes
or
No, use checked=checked to default one or the other to being checked.

allthough most here would aregue that your business logic should at
least
be in a separate CFC so that the code is re-usable.
There are some good form handlers out there that do all the validation
and
generate nice error messages for you.
here is one off the top of my head

 One of the strengths of ColdFusion (and, indeed, other languages of
its
 ilk) is that you don't have to separate your input interfaces from
your
 back-end processing, and even the response display. There are sound
reasons
 for implementing direct feedback form input interfaces within a single
 template, conditionalizing the function points. In some cases, good UI
and
 app design dictate that it all be rolled into one, because the input,
 processing, and response may all be visually integrated (i.e., what
you
 enter into the form and submit comes back at you in a processed form,
 providing necessary results feedback). If your input UI is the basis
for a
 self-same response display, then it makes perfect sense to roll it all
into
 one template, allowing one to maintain that code in a single place.
But of
 course, YMMV. I just wanted to make note that there's nothing
inherently
 bad about designing things that way.

Steve, to respond to your inquiry specifically, I've always felt it was
best to take complete control over what is in the Form scope, right from
the top, by laying out a series of cfparam tags and their default
values, especially if check boxes or initially-unselected radio button
groups are part of the form.

cfparam name=Form.thisField default=
cfparam name=Form.thatField default=0

Then my back-end logic, working with the assumption that everything IS
defined, regardless of what the user did or did not do in the form, is
free to simply test a form field value to see if it has changed from its
default to know if it has been selected or a user value provided. No
dinking around with browser implementation junk.

With that Yes/No radio button thing, general UI guidelines specify that
at least one element of a mutually exclusive control group be defaulted
to 'selected' when the interface is presented. After having said that,
though, you should actually consider changing question input like Do
you have an Undergraduate Degree? from a Yes/No (boolean) radio button
input to simply a single check box, with a rephrased question like I
have an Undergraduate Degree. Then, that's where your use of the
cfparam tag comes into play, because you can prescribe a fixed value
to that one check box input element, and only when the check box is
checked off does that become the value for it, differentiating it from
the default value, and indicating that it was selected.

cfparam name=Form.UnderGrad default=0
...
input type=checkbox name=UnderGrad value=1 strongI have an
Undergraduate Degree/strong
...
cfif Form.UnderGrad eq 1
!--- If it equals 1 at form submit, instead of the default 0, then
it was selected ---

CF 9 Standard is available in a 64-bit version for Windows. You must
also be running a 64-bit Windows OS, obviously. I believe you can
still use Access from a 64-bit version, but haven't bothered to verify
that for myself, because, well, yecch.

We purchase 12 GB of memory for our web server and come to find out that
we need Windows 2003 Enterprise or upgrade to Windows 2008 in order for
the memory to be recognized. We currently have MX 7 standard installed.
I am going to upgrade to CF 9, Standard. I understand that CF 9 Standard
comes in 64 bit and can run 64 bit heaps. And I believe you can still
run 32 bit ODBC drivers on a 64 bit windows so I can still use my Access
DB's.

There is something wrong with the idea of using such a beastly
web-server
with an Access DB backend, upgrade your DB while you are at it.

Detecting Mobile Devices

2010-10-13 Thread Steve LaBadie

I have just finished the development of a mobile site for our

everything seems to be working. I was wondering if there is a more
streamlined approach to detecting the different devices. Right now I am
checking for specific brands. I can see this list expanding as more
devices come on the market. Any thoughts.

make sure you are using Isapi rewrite 3 and not 2 as only 3 works with
apache rules
make sure wordpress is giving you the Apache rules and not the IIS
rules.
If it is causing you that much grief, it probably will just be easier to
give Apache a try. However I would recommend upgrading to windows
2008/IIS7
as it is better in many ways, it is however significantly different and
does
have a fair old learning curve.

Moving to Apache

2010-09-02 Thread Steve LaBadie

I am currently running ColdFusion MX7 on Windows 2003 running IIS. I
would like to switch to Apache.

1. Can this be done without screwing things up?

2. Do I have to re-install CF and point to Apache?

3. Should I set-up a VM?

I did set up a testing server to make sure everything works using
Apache. So now I am ready to make the switch.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

RE: Moving to Apache

2010-09-02 Thread Steve LaBadie

I didn't really want to switch, but we couldn't get WordPress 3 to work
on IIS. We have to migrate our faculty website off of our UNIX box an
onto the web server. Up until now faculty or someone had to know HTML in
order to create web pages for them. We installed WordPress and created a
bunch of templates so they didn't have to go through the difficult
process of creating web pages.

do you have some particular reason to switch to Apache?
Windows is much easier to use and administer, especially if you are not
used
to Apache/Linux.
Unless there is a specific feature of Apache you need which IIS doesn't
have
then you may be just creating more work and complications for yourself.

 Yes, if done carefully. If this is on the same box, you obviously
 won't be able to have both Apache and IIS listening to port 80, so
 there will be a little bit of downtime.

  2. Do I have to re-install CF and point to Apache?

 You don't have to reinstall CF. You will simply need to run the JRun
 web server configuration tool to disconnect CF from IIS and connect it
 to Apache. If you have multiple virtual hosts, you'll probably end up
 doing some manual configuration with Apache, as the web server
 configuration tool doesn't handle that too well - you might want to
 test setting this up in another environment first.

  3. Should I set-up a VM?

 That shouldn't be necessary for this.

I have wordpress 3 running on IIS7 with no problems at all, it was the
easiest setup I have ever done and works perfectly.
However I note you said you are running windows 2003 which is IIS6,
which
may be the issue as I believe wordpress requires URL rewriting to work
properly. This is built in to IIS7 bit not IIS6, and wordpress detects
IIS7
automatically and generates the rewrite rules in the web.config which is
the
same as the .htaccess.
There is a solution for IIS6 called ISAPI REWRITE which is fully
compatible
with Apache mod_rewrite rules and you can just copy the Apache .htaccess
file, so any software that requires Apache for mod_rewrite , should work
on
IIS using ISAPI_REWRITE.
You can download it here.

WOT: DNS CNAME

Is there any problem or disadvantage of creating CNAME in the DNS to

As a CxO myself, I would be extremely reluctant to create CNAMEs that
point to sites that actually belong to other organizations, as in your
first example - I wouldn't want to imply ownership of
support.microsoft.com. Nothing good can come from that.

If your organization owns the hosted websites off campus, then I don't
see any problem.

isNumeric(form.num) will always evaluate to 0 (and not 4).  It's a
literal
string (by virtue of the fact that it's enclosed in quotes). So this
condition will never be true.

What you want is isNumeric(form.num). Which will return true or false.
So
when you say isNumeric(form.num) eq 4... I'm not sure that's what you
want.
ColdFusion will accept that... it uses implicit boolean conversion so
true
== 4 is true.  But that's not really what you're going for, I don't
think.

try:

cfif structKeyExists(form, 'num') and val(form.num) eq 4

Best is probably a query. For example:

cfset myQuery = QueryNew(letter,title)
cfset QueryAddRow(myQuery)
cfset QuerySetCell(myQuery, letter, A)
cfset QuerySetCell(myQuery, title, Title)
cfset QueryAddRow(myQuery)
cfset QuerySetCell(myQuery, letter, A)
cfset QuerySetCell(myQuery, title, Title)
cfset QueryAddRow(myQuery)
cfset QuerySetCell(myQuery, letter, B)
cfset QuerySetCell(myQuery, title, Title)
cfset QueryAddRow(myQuery)
cfset QuerySetCell(myQuery, letter, B)
cfset QuerySetCell(myQuery, title, Title)
cfset QueryAddRow(myQuery)
cfset QuerySetCell(myQuery, letter, C)
cfset QuerySetCell(myQuery, title, Title)
cfset QueryAddRow(myQuery)
cfset QuerySetCell(myQuery, letter, C)
cfset QuerySetCell(myQuery, title, Title)

...or from the DB. This will allow you to do this:

ul
cfoutput group=letter query=myQuery
li#myQuery.letter#/li
ul
cfoutput
li#myQuery.title#/li
/cfoutput
/ul
/cfoutput

Then provide this information in the original post!

Even with this structure, I'd be tempted to construct a Query and do
grouping anyway.

What structure does the data arrive in - is it already split
alphabetically?

edit/preferences/FileTypes and Editors should be all you need to edit.
There is no comas in open in code view just .ext with periods...

In CS3 and early Dreamweaver version the HTML tags were color coded when
I added new extensions. In CS4 they are not color coded. I believe it
has to do with the fact that the MMDocumentTypes.xml file no longer
exist. So is there a file under Configuration that has taken the place

I always use cfparam but I gather that also using the StructKeyExists is
more efficient. And yes agree I should be trimming as well and checking

Why do you suggest using the StructKeyExists?

Because it is the most efficient way to check if the Form scope contains
the Name field.

Do you see a problem in doing it this?

cfif form.name NEQ AND form.requestname NEQ

...

The main problem is that there is nothing to check/enforce that Name and
RequestName are defined.

You should use either StructKeyExists or cfparam to ensure you have
these fields, otherwise you will get an error when the page is accessed
directly.

Another issue that the validation can easily be bypassed with just a
space.

If you trim() the fields you ensure that you at least have some content
(even if you don't have full name validation).

Subject: Re: Checking for Existence of RSS.CHANNEL.ITEM

 cfset variables.items = XmlSearch(objRss, '//item') /

With this line, you guarantee that variable.items is an array. It may
be empty, but it will always be an array and so you avoid the kind of
validation code that can get messy with CF and XML.

A more poignant example might be if you only wanted to show items with
a given category. Using XPath:

variables.items = XmlSearch(objRss, '//item[category=somecategory]');
// then just loop items

Without XPath:

if( StructKeyExists(xmlobj.rss.channel, 'items') ){
  for(i=1; i LTE ArrayLen(xmlobj.rss.channel.items); i=i+1){
if(StructKeyExists(xmlobj.rss.channel.items[i], 'category')){
  for(n=1; n LTE ArrayLen(xmlobj.rss.channel.items[i].category;
n=n+1){
if(xmlobj.rss.channel.items[i].category[n].xmlText =
'somecateogry'){
   // finally do something with the item!
}
  }
}
  }
}

(nightmare).

Anyways, to do what you want:

cfset variables.objRss = XmlParse(RSSHotEvents2.xml) /
cfset variables.items = XmlSearch(objRss, '//item') /

cfif not ArrayLen(items)
   There are no events for today
cfelse
   cfloop from=1 to=#ArrayLen(items)# index=variables.i
!--- #items[i].title.xmlText# ---
   /cfloop
/cfif

This may be of help too:

Checking for Existence of RSS.CHANNEL.ITEM

2009-05-19 Thread Steve LaBadie

I am producing an XML file from a calendar application for an RSS feed.
I have encountered an error when there is no event scheduled for a
particular day. I get an error of Element RSS.CHANNEL.ITEM is undefined
in OBJRSS.

I have tried both cfif IsDefined and StructKeyExists and can't get rid
of the error. Is this code to complex to check for the existence of the
CHANNEL.ITEM variables using these methods, is there another option? I
am using CFMX 7

cfhttp url=/RSSHotEvents.xml method=get/cfhttp

cfset objRSS = xmlParse(cfhttp.filecontent) /

cfset Item_Length = arraylen(objRSS.rss.channel.item) /

cfloop index=i from=1 to=8 step=1

cftry

p class=eventsspan class=newstitle

a class=eventlink
onClick=javascript:window.open('cfoutput#objRSS.rss.channel.item[i].l
ink.xmltext#/cfoutput','Event','height=450,width=625,toolbar=no,menuba
r=no,status=no,location=no,directories=no,titlebar=no,resizable=yes,scro
llbars=yes'); return false; href=cfoutput
#objRSS.rss.channel.item[i].link.xmltext# /cfoutput
style=text-decoration: none;

cfset date = #objRSS.rss.channel.item[i].date.xmltext# /

cfset time = #objRSS.rss.channel.item[i].time.xmltext# /

cfset date1 = #DateFormat(date,/dd/)# /

cfset time1 = #listFirst(time, -)# /

cfoutput strong#objRSS.rss.channel.item[i].title.xmltext#/strong

cfoutputfont style=padding-left: 10px; font-weight:

Page Caching Problem

2009-04-23 Thread Steve LaBadie

I have a mini calendar on my pages that will take you to a master events
calendar. The links on the calendar give you the option of selecting
today's date, month view, or a previous or future date. The today's date
is caching any previous view and I can't seem to stop this from
happening. This occurs in both IE and Firefox. Do I need to set a
caching directive in IIS in order to stop this from happening? Any
direction would be helpful.

I have tried:

cfheader name=expires value=#now()# /

cfheader name=pragma value=no-cache /

cfheader name=cache-control value=no-cache, no-store,
must-revalidate /

cfcache action=flush

meta http-equiv=expires content=Mon, 06 Jan 1990 00:00:01 GMT /
