RE: Redsky-Still issues with CFINSERT and CFUPDATE.
Wish I could say the same :( The problems with CFMX not updating the jrun-resources.xml file caused us downtime with our Ablecommerce customers (which uses JRUN-resources.xml). Issues with query of queries code would have also forced us to rewrite sections of code for about four websites, and the issue with the CFINSERT and CFUPDATE also hit a lot of our earlier work. So on our production side I haven't been able to see the benefit of Redsky, and that is where we would have benefitted the most from the increased speed and CFMAIL enhancements I'm sure. So..waiting on a few more 'hot fixes' before we put it live. -Angel -Original Message- From: David Schmidt [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Just got notification from Macromedia this morning -- a hotfix has been released -- Technote 18833. RE: Redsky-Still issues with CFINSERT and CFUPDATE.
Yes. That's all well and good. However...two tags which are very commonly used in application design, were working before the update...and are not working now. You can't expect us to change code..both which we have written in the past, or which clients that we host have written to NOT use CFINSERT and CFUPDATE because of applying Redsky. So...there is a problem. And I'm wondering if anyone has found a fix to it, because it doesn't seem that we're the only ones experiencing this. -Gel -Original Message- From: Matt Robertson [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi Angel, Didn't we discuss this in another forum (i.e. the overall value of these tags in CFMX; the question being have they grown up and are ready for widespread use)? I recall saying in one of those posts that these tags blackbox your sql and return unhelpful error messages, making them too much trouble to mess with (among other cited weaknesses). My opinion, which I know some disagree with, remains that this is a tool only suited for beginners who don't know sql yet. More often than not if you try to use it past that level you'll find that what you thought was a time-saving feature just isn't, given the extra time you have to take dealing with stuff like your current problem cropping up out of nowhere, or gymnastics necessary to input a limited field set, copy vars to the form scope etc. etc. If you write real sql you will be done with it forever, unless you change your own app. ~| Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/index.cfm?forumid=4 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/index.cfm?method=subscribeforumid=4 FAQ: http://www.thenetprofits.co.uk/coldfusion/faq Signup for the Fusion Authority news alert and keep up with the latest news in ColdFusion and related topics. http://www.fusionauthority.com/signup.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.4

Hey IF a patch is written for 6.1 to fix this password / Access issue on cfupdate and cfinsert could the Primary Key / cfupdate issue also be address? This field is required in order to do an UPDATE because it is part of the primary key for the tablename table. http://webforums.macromedia.com/coldfusion/messageview.cfm?catid=3 http://webforums.macromedia.com/coldfusion/messageview.cfm?catid=3thre adid=380672 threadid=380672 When using the formfields attribute in the cfupdate tag the primary key must also be listed in the formfields attribute or else error will be generated. This issue was introduced in CF MX. CF 5 and earlier had no problems. I think it is a poor practice to update the primary key even, if it is with the same value. Code Example: cfset form.recordid=2 cfset form.MailList=2 cfupdate datasource==data tablename=MailListLog formfields=MailList Result error: Primary key field RECORDID, not found. The field RECORDID, was not found in the Form input. This field is required in order to do an UPDATE because it is part of the primary key for the MailListLog table. Re: Redsky-Still issues with CFINSERT and CFUPDATE.
My recommendation (which I'm sure many will agree) would be to get rid of your CFUPDATEs and CFINSERTs and use SQL expressions (CFQUERY) instead. Also be sure to use the CFQUERYPARAM tag in your CFQUERY statements. Maybe not the answer you were looking for... but it WILL fix your problem(s). -Novak - Original Message - From: Angel Stewart [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: CF-Talk [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Sunday, August 10, 2003 6:52 AM Subject: Redsky-Still issues with CFINSERT and CFUPDATE. A little late, but after all the posts...I still didn't see an error or any code. The issue appear to be that cfinsert/cfupdate are ignoring the username/password parameters altogether. cfinsert datasource=test tablename=tbl dbtype=ODBC username=test password=test formfields=#form.test1#, #form.test2# Error thrown is: [Macromedia][SequeLink JDBC Driver][SequeLink Server]Required user name is missing. RE: Redsky-Still issues with CFINSERT and CFUPDATE.
Can anyone shed some light on what the 'problems' are with cfinsert and cfupdate not working with 6.1? I must be missing an email or two. Is anyone having problems with MS SQL 2000 and 6.1 cfupdate and cfinsert? Other then the problem that CF 6.0 introduced with cfupdate, requiring the key field to be required in the list of fields to up date. (Dumb problem) I knew I should have tested the beta of red sky. I had it sitting on my desk but, no time to test the cfupdate and inserts. Drat. Recoding 70-90 sites that we have written over the past 5 years using cfupdate and cfinsert, is not an option at this time. Mark W. Is it a BUG??? Bug: A defect or difficulty, as in a system or design. A defect in the code or routine of a program. Well, it is an inconsistency at very least between cf5 and MX that cost us about 16 hours of development time to fix the problem on 50 - 70 sites when we moved to MX.
