I don't know if XP supports Win32 like previous MS Software, but you ought
to give Apache web server a try. Built by people who care about software q
uality, not by people like the dork M$ rep you met.

You HAVE to have XP Pro. I found this out only AFTER I talked to the MS Re
p at CompUSA, where I bought XP Home. The funny thing is, I explained to th
e dork M$ rep that I am a web developer who does a lot of work from home on

Okay here's my problem:

I use my laptop as a portable cold fusion design station. (You know
For those afternoon trips to starbucks) Right now I have cold Fusion
Studio, Cold fusion server 4.5 and Microsoft personal web server as
My web server. (Remember it's on my laptop, all I have to do is check
One page on at time while I sip my chai...)

My questions are: what is the personal web server equivalent for XP.
Can I do the same thing on XP?

Thanks for your help

Thanks all for the tip on Apache/Win/XP-Home I set it up with the single

As long as you are using XP Professional, you can install IIS (it's a
limited version similar to PWS). No problems.

Probably not. PWS stopped being supported at Windows ME, I believe. When I
tried to find a PWS for Win ME the Microsoft site said that it was no
longer supported for a home system running a version newer than 98, and
that all I had to do to install a web server was upgrade Windows to a
professional version.

Can I do the same thing on XP?

I don't see why not.

You might be able to get Apache to run on the machine, although there may
not be a version for XP yet/ever.

There is no PWS for XP. XP Pro has IIS. We used CF5, Apache1.3.22 on XP
home and it works great. Just make sure you add the LoadModule line after
all other module calls in the init file and you'll be fine.

My questions are: what is the personal web server equivalent for XP.
Can I do the same thing on XP?
