Apologies if this has been covered before, but I couldn't find
anything in the archives.

My problem is that I need to convert a webpage, it's a coldfusion
generated stats page on a server, into an image (jpg, gif etc). This is so
that I can view the server status from my TV via tivo. I've managed to do
something crude using the cfx image tag but if I could capture the whole
page and convert the html to an image I would be really happy.

Any thoughts ?

Cheers

Re: HTML to Image

2002-08-27 Thread Zac Spitzer

Does anyone know of a custom tag (or anything else) that can create an image
based on HTML input (like CF_HTML2PDF2 but to an image)?

To everyone who was asking about getting website screenshots this week,
Mike took it up as a challenge today and wrote a simple cfx_url2bmp.

You can download it from http://efflare.com/download/

It's completely free, and includes a readme file with instructions on use.
ImageXY, another free tag I saw mentioned recently, should be out soon too.

any chance of configuring the screen size or color depth? the thing is
it uses the current screen config.. it would be great to make this work
in 8bit for example, the resulting image and also memory usage/speed
would really improve

RE: HTML to Image

I did some experimentation to set up a service to use MS Word to convert
web-pages to DOC/RTF and PDF (printing and running through Ghostscript). It
would be trivial to add to this service functionality to output it in an
imageformat, Ghostscript allows this. (I implemented it in ASP, since our CF
servers are on UNIX)

Hey Hugo,

I think I'm chatting with you about HTML2JPG right now ;-)

Anyways, can you expand on this method using Ghostscript?

RE: HTML to Image

2002-08-21 Thread Hugo Ahlenius

Well,

the concept is this:

As long as you can get a ps or eps file then you can filter it through
Ghostscript, and specify a device. There are a number of devices to choose
from among those pdf, ps, jpeg, png etc.

To get it to postscript I created an ASP page (could as well be done in a
Win-based CF setup) that started the winword object, opened the site and
printed it to a file using a generic postscript printer (Apple Color
Laswerwriter). I guess it could be done through an IE control too, perhaps?

Not the smoothest way though...

Re: HTML to Image

2002-08-20 Thread Jerry Johnson

There was a thread way back when about a COM object that could do this.

Generating HTML thumbnails, COM Question

An exerpt from a message:
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
ok, I found the class it's called

 Shell.ThumbnailExtract.HTML.1 {EAB841A0-9550-11CF-8C16-00805F1408F3}

I tried to play with it with cfobject

 cfobject type=COM name=Thumbnail
 class=Shell.ThumbnailExtract.HTML.1 action=CREATE
 context=INPROC

but I got a . COM error 0x80004002. No such interface
 supported error

which cfcoment says No known solutions presently exist for
 this error.

anyone interested in playing a bit with this, I gotta no clue
 about COM, WIN32 stuff

This is just a shot in the dark, but you might try making sure that the CF
Server service is running such that it allows interaction with the desktop -
you can check this in the Services list.
