[Chat] Jones Fall Sewer project
So, is anyone else going crazy with this sewer project? It goes down 27th Street and this week they are tearing up 27th at Guilford by my house. It's absolutely horrible! I work from home and at several times during the day, the whole house shakes. We were given no notice about this by the city (only those located within 100 feet of 27th Street were according to the Peabody Heights Assoc.), and luckily we were both home when they started yesterday, as when they are drilling, the house shakes and things started to fall off walls and move on shelves, some of which were family antiques. Luckily we were home so that we could grab these things and put them away. Not to mention that the shaking of the house will cause damage to the foundation, I'm sure. I see that the Community Law Center has offered to help but I wonder if our being more than 100 feet away (just barely) matters. http://cityservices.baltimorecity.gov/dpw/jonesfalls/pd.html http://www.peabodyheights.org/ This sucks. -Greg Greg Alexander Freelance Writer/Editor Editor, Mason-Dixon Arrive 2629 Guilford Avenue Baltimore, MD 21218 410-243-3387 [EMAIL PROTECTED] www.gregoryjalexander.com Any questions? Re: [Chat] [Discussion] Jones Fall Sewer project
We were given initial notice of this, through a number of fliers and people knocking on our door, over 6 months ago. The initial estimate of work was early October ... two months behind schedule is nothing, apparently, for a project like this. Thankfully we haven't found things to be too bad, probably because I am across the street. Having walked by the big dig at 27th Calvert I predict the worst will come as they start to bang lots of large metal supports into the ground (is that what they started doing today?) There is always a problem with rats. I haven't seen anything out of the ordinary. They still come and eat the trash from the cans the kids kick over. Re: [Chat] [Discussion] Jones Fall Sewer project
Over here on Calvert St. we have survived the big dig (so far)...the worst part is when they are driving the I beams down. However, although there was a lot of noise, there was little in the way of shaking and damage to the house that you describe...at least to mine. I work at home one day a week and was here when it happened - and aside from the noise, it didn't bother me. I'm only a few houses up Calvert from 27th so I wonder if the substrata is different where you are to cause such a disturbance. I really feel sorry for the people at the corners of 27th...it's incredibly invasive. And no, there haven't been any extraordinary rat problems. - Original Message From: Greg Alexander [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: The Charles Village Chat List Chat@charlesvillage.info; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, December 6, 2006 7:09:07 PM Subject: Re: [Chat] [Discussion] Jones Fall Sewer project Thanks!
