Re: [Chat] recycling
I agree. I think the city employees do a great job considering the mess that some residents leave for them. A much bigger problem is people not securing their recycling properly and/or putting it out too early. I was walking by an alley behind Calvert St. yesterday evening as a strong wind gust sent most of the contents of someone's bin airborne. Re: [Chat] recycling
I'm guessing most people have alley pic up. I don't have an alley. My back faces vineyard lane, where cars park. One container, at present is behind my car. I know its there so I won't back into it. If not already done so I'll move it out of the gutter.I know it's my neighbor's container. Many people park on vineyard who are shopping on greenmount. This is becoming more complicated than it needs to be. The bottom line is don't throw my stuff around. I don't care where u set it so long as it is not in the gutter. judy On 03/03/2011 12:16 PM, Joshua Fruhlinger wrote: I imagine that they have way too much ground to cover in the course of the day to put them back exactly where they found them. Re: [Chat] Recycling Problems
I'm not sure that info is entirely accurate. After the city reversed its decision to require every neighborhood to put their recycling in the front several years ago, it named specific blocks in CV that had to continue to put theirs at the front because their alleys were too narrow for the larger trucks. Many were in the area mentioned, but not all. The west side of Abell, for instance (at least the 3000 block), could handle the trucks, and they routinely go down the alley. If I recall correctly, one of the neighborhood newsletters listed where each block had to put their recycling at the time the decision was made. If anyone still has that info, it would be great to make it public again, because I agree that it's a waste of city resources to have to collect from both the front and back of houses. -jon --- Linda Forlifer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > The alleys east of Guilford and north of 30th are > narrow, not like the named alleys west of Guilford > Avenue. Re: [Chat] Recycling Problems
The alleys east of Guilford and north of 30th are narrow, not like the named alleys west of Guilford Avenue. The residents were asked to put their recycling in front of their homes because the trucks cannot negotiate the smaller alleys. The workers now spend extra time collecting from both the front and rear. There would be less spillage if they were able to collect from the front only on blocks where the alleys are too narrow for the truck. Linda >>> Katie <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 5/28/2008 1:36 PM >>> You may want to ask the recycling office if they can change the route to pick up in front of your houses on that block instead of behind. I know they mentioned that the trucks they use for recycling are too big to fit down some of the alley streets, which is why they carry the bins down to the end of the block. Apparently they are not bringing the truck down the alley and so they clumsily carry the bags and bins down some way with trash spilling out all along the way, which they do not clean up. They also do not return the bins to their proper place. I called and complained. Be aware of this and please complain if there is a mess in the alley and your bin is not where it should be. Re: [Chat] Recycling Problems
You may want to ask the recycling office if they can change the route to pick up in front of your houses on that block instead of behind. I know they mentioned that the trucks they use for recycling are too big to fit down some of the alley streets, which is why they carry the bins down to the end of the block. Mine was also picked up sometime after dark. I wonder why they were so late. I hope the city isn't going to end up paying lots of overtime. When I was a kid in Philly, we lived near a place called the Triangle Bar. In the afternoon, there were always a fair number of trash trucks parked outside it. My mom claimed the sanitation workers would wile away the afternoon and then would work late and collect overtime. I think this is the first time this has happened here in Baltimore to us. Usually our trash guys come quite early. -Kathleen >Mine was picked up a little later than that. > >-Original Message- >From: John Spurrier <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Sent: Sep 12, 2005 8:45 PM >To: Chat@charlesvillage.info >Subject: Re: [Chat] Recycling > >DPW just picked up mine 10 minutes ago (8:35 p.m.). > >John > > >>Our recycling wasn't picked up today. Re: [Chat] Recycling
As I recall, the previous Monday blue bag pickup (8/22) was actually on Tuesday, and the stuff was out overnight, and in fact it was picked up after the trash. That was before Katrina, but nobody commented on the late pickup then. But it is good to hear that this time, the lateness was for a very good reason. I'm sure that there is a massive need for trash pickup in New Orleans; I just hope that the people doing the pickup are given protection against the toxic waste that is all over New Orleans.
