I have the opposite reaction to recycling on my alley...the sanitation guys are nice, friendly and do a good job. In the early days they sometimes crushed the materials and left broken glass in piles in the alley. I mentioned it to the City person in charge and it doesn't happen anymore. True, they don't always put the containers back in exactly the same place they picked them up from..but I think the guys do a good job and the City has been responsive in fixing problems. In all honesty, if I had to spend my day lifting other people's junk and dumping it in a smelly truck, I think I'd be inclined to drop the containers as soon as I could. Re: [Chat] recycling
I'm guessing most people have alley pic up. I don't have an alley. My back faces vineyard lane, where cars park. One container, at present is behind my car. I know its there so I won't back into it. If not already done so I'll move it out of the gutter.I know it's my neighbor's container. Many people park on vineyard who are shopping on greenmount. This is becoming more complicated than it needs to be. The bottom line is don't throw my stuff around. I don't care where u set it so long as it is not in the gutter. judy On 03/03/2011 12:16 PM, Joshua Fruhlinger wrote: I imagine that they have way too much ground to cover in the course of the day to put them back exactly where they found them. Re: [Chat] Recycling Problems
You may want to ask the recycling office if they can change the route to pick up in front of your houses on that block instead of behind. I know they mentioned that the trucks they use for recycling are too big to fit down some of the alley streets, which is why they carry the bins down to the end of the block. Re: [Chat] Recycling Problems
The alleys east of Guilford and north of 30th are narrow, not like the named alleys west of Guilford Avenue. The residents were asked to put their recycling in front of their homes because the trucks cannot negotiate the smaller alleys. The workers now spend extra time collecting from both the front and rear. There would be less spillage if they were able to collect from the front only on blocks where the alleys are too narrow for the truck. Re: [Chat] Recycling
Mine got picked up late in the evening. Because of the late pick-up, I noticed that someone took about half of what I had initially put out prior to it being collected. I can only assume that it was someone who wanted the cans to recycle for cash, but it kind of disturbs me that someone is going through my trash. If that's not why it was taken, I'm concerned that what I put out may not get recycled.
