Re: [CinCV] Nudging takes on the timeline

2010-02-03 Thread Frank Glatzel
Hi Daniel and Roland,
thank you for all your usefull tips and tricks.
It really makes me see Cinelerra in a different light now.

It's the way to go for LInux Video Making, as nudging clips
is one of the most important tasks in music video making
to keep the sound sync with the voice.

Ciao Frank

Also I forgot to add on the far left of the timeline where you have video1
and the function buttons the last one is an arrow that lets you expand the
window. There you can set subtractive, additive overlay but there is a
numeric window and if you hold the cursor over it it says "nudge" I've never
used it but I believe you can enter frames to move the whole track back and
forth. assuming you can use - numbers. play with it.

Re: [CinCV] Nudging takes on the timeline

2010-02-03 Thread Roland

Hi

Daniel, I didn't know this function. Thanks for the tip.

Frank,
You can apply an effect on just a part of your tracks by:
- selecting the area you want in the timeline with the "cut and paste
editing mode" button OR with the in [ and out ] buttons ... and
drag/drop the effect in there.
- selecting the area you want, making a copy of it (or cutting it), and
pasting it in another blank video track (Video -> Add Track) on the top
of the video track you want to modify.
Note that this new copy can be easily "nudge" along the timeline in the
new video (or audio) track with your mouse. For precise nudging you can
use the "manual goto" button (if you are using the CV version) in
combination with the 4 and 1 buttons of the num keypad.

Other thing: Make sure you have "Play every frame" option checked in
Settings -> Preferences -> Playback -> Video out. The Audio offset (sec)
option in the "Audio out" part can also permit you to sync your video
(but for the whole project).

Re: [CinCV] Nudging takes on the timeline

2010-02-03 Thread Daniel Jircik
Yes that is annoying. You can of course insert silence. But that's been
problematic for me for some reason. What I usually do is record about 2
minutes (or longer than you need) of black and make a short clip of that.
That way you can skirt things up and down the timeline with the same method
as described previously. Pushing the black, or pulling the scene. etc. Using
a black track keeps your audio tracks from going askew as well.

Thank you very much, Daniel.
Your suggestion works perfectly and solves half of my problem.
But when I try to drag a take around the timeline it doesn't seem to stay
where I drop it. Is there perhaps a snap which I can turn off?

Would be very helpful if I could position a take somewhere in the track.

When you put the cursor on the beginning of a scene move it back over the
start. Note that the cursor changes to -> or <- when you move the cursor
over the start or end of the clip. Each one has different functionality when
used in drag and drop mode with left mouse button.
-> at the head of the clip nudges track forward independent of other tracks
<- nudges the other way.
-> at the end of the clip lengthens the clip
<- at the end of the clip shortens it.
Play with it to get the hang of it but that's how you can sync up multiple
cameras etc. Hope hope that is useful.

Hi Scott,
thank you for your suggestion, but it doesn't solve it, as Cinelerra
seems to lack the function to grab a take on the timeline and shift it
around freely on the timeline to any position like a DAW i.e..
These effect work on the entire track instead.

How would I go about doing this?
I know there is a function to nudge the entire track, but I only want to nudge

Your help would be really appreciated.
