[c-nsp] DOM on 6724-SFP (was: Will UDLD work with converters ?)

Yeah. I really wish this had gone under a new part number (WS-X6724A-SFP?).
It hasn't happened yet, but I dread having to RMA one of our HW rev = 3.0
 cards.

Well, DOM on 6724-SFP is one of the policy-banned features I'm afraid.

For many years, multiple customers tried several times to get it working.
This topic was also mentioned on various meetings with Cisco, for example
in 2007 I gave the following presentation on European NREN workshop:

http://md.bts.sk/wien2007-dom.pdf

In 2008, the broken I2C bus was fixed on 6724-SFP linecards (HW rev 3.0)
and everyone hoped the problem is over. But instead of announcing DOM
support on these cards, new IOS enhancements were put into SXI train,
which aim to disable this functionality in software:

#sh inte g 3/1 tra
Module 3 doesn't support DOM

#sh inte tra supported-modules
Mod DOM support
 --
  3 Not Applicable

I really fail to undestand, why someone at Cisco tries to make our work
harder and disables highly useful features for no reason. I suppose it's
just a belief that customers will buy ES20 modules instead, but given
that wirespeed 1RU switches with 10G uplinks and 24 SFP downlinks are
available from multiple vendors at reasonable prices, this assumption
fails miserably.

 With kind regards,

[c-nsp] Cisco SCE simultaneous users

2009-10-04 Thread Jason Alex
Dear All,
can anyone advice, does the SCE QM (Quota Manager) supports
that a Username is running on Multiple SCE at the same time ?

we have users in our network that can access the Network from two different
places using the same username

So what we got is that we have this username is running on multiple SCE on
the same time

my question is there is any problem in quota calculation when the same
Subscriber is running on the same time on multiple SCEs ?

Thanks

Can you post the ACLs at either end, and provide software versions for

Re: [c-nsp] Cisco SCE simultaneous users

2009-10-04 Thread Arie Vayner (avayner)
Jason,

It's not supported,

The Cisco Quota Manager implementation assumes a subscriber can exist on
one SCE at any given time.

However, customers may implement their own QM on top of the SCE
Subscribers API and have it support such topology.

Looks like they've jumped from 12.4 to 15.0.

Sounds a bit like the jump from Solaris 2.6 to Solaris 7.

Took a look at 15.0 for my 877...

Minimum Memory: DRAM:192 MB Flash:36 MB

My 877 is fairly new (couple of months old), and only has 128M of RAM and 24M
of flash. Gah, bloat.

IIRC, 128Mb DRAM and 24Mb flash was the most you could fit in an 877W,
although I recall having one with 192Mb after an accidental oh, it
works with a 128Mb DIMM.

Peter,

Someone on twitter said that Asian culture has a phobia of the number 14,
similar to the western phobia of 13. I would have preferred Cisco just ignore
this stuff, but if they were going to bump, I guess 15 is just as good as 14.
At least they are not naming it Cisco IOS 2010 or some such.

Also, I just saw some references to what appears to be show version output for

you can see what appears to be a Cisco 3945 booting.

Hello,
I need to put two 6509s in a non-clean warehouse. I thought I could just
put them in a standard rack with some AC filters attached to the bottom and
let the air get pulled out of the top. However the rack is not airtight
enough and I am getting a lot of drywall/dust in the rack and switches.

Anyone here know where / how to find a semi-sealed enclosed rack with
