Oh the irony...

How do all of the other people in your address book that Gmail phished
feel about the "less spam" they're getting?

Re: [c-nsp] catv network - qpsk - atm25

2012-08-31 Thread Jared Mauch
Does your catv cable have a fiber strand as well? Many of these cables also
have a SM fiber.. if so, you can use a bidi-sfp.

It does sound like you are trying to use very old technology, which can be good
on the cheap, but sometimes is not the best choice.

A pair of bidi sfps and media converters can be had for around $250 on the
cheap.

Re: [c-nsp] catv network - qpsk - atm25

2012-08-31 Thread Aaron
Nm-1atm-25 has been eol/eos since 2006, my boss totally doesn't like the
idea of rolling out ~40 node locations with atm25 backhual with eos/eol
gear!

This may have answered it for me J

I'll still hear from any suggestions yall have though, just incase we do it.

Subject: catv network - qpsk - atm25

My boss is asking me about reeng our catv network for various reasons. (swrd
replacement, do rfog for a different set box, much of which I don't
understand since it's very catv-speak..but I'm the ip eng that he needs to
speak to some of this below)

He is saying that one of the pieces of catv gear (qpsk demodulator) has an
ATM25 interface on it that might need to get backhauled into our video
Headend.

Anybody know about carrying atm25 over an Ethernet/mpls/ip network?

I'm thinking AToM or something.. I'm seeing cisco 1400 or 2600 or 3600
support atm25 interfaces. (btw, the catv atm 25 int is rj45 with probably a
atm compliant underlying signaling, etc)

If I went via atm25 router into my mpls cloud I could l2/l3vpn that into my
video headend and probably be done with it.

Lemme know your thoughts plz

Aaron

Re: [c-nsp] Cisco VSS upgrade - time needed?

2012-08-31 Thread Matthieu MICHAUD
Hello,

According my little experience on this (I have done that around 10 times) 2
hours would be enough if carefully planned.
In practice I have done that in half an hour with an actual outage of 15
minutes.

If you did not already done so I advise you to read these :
-
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps9336/products_tech_note09186a0080a7c837.shtml
-
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps9336/products_tech_note09186a0080a7c74c.shtml

I would also strongly recommend you to test the dual active scenario. Other
mailing list members could add it is really unlikely to happen.
They would be right if nobody tests it. But trust me it is not so uncommon
if you have regular DRP exercise.
Right now I can think of at least half a dozen lazy ass (including myself)
convinced that triggering this scenario by shutting down the VSL links is
clever.

[c-nsp] Cisco VSS upgrade - time needed?

2012-08-31 Thread Bernie
Hello! I'm going to be performing my first upgrade of 2 Catalyst 6500
chassis to a VSS in a few weeks. There are only FastE and Supe modules
installed, so I'm thinking my outage window will only need to be 3-4 hours
(inc. rollback time for problems). Has anyone on the list done this
conversion and can you confirm my outage time estimate? On a related note,
what was your personal experience with the actual network outage time
during reboots?

Thanks!
