I've put up a proof-of-concept (read 'ugly') virus alias database at
http://www.kevinspicer.co.uk Its currently rather limited in that it
only fully indexes Clam, Fsecure and Symantec (although some
 aliases for
other vendors are picked up). If people feel it is worth
 pursuing then
I'll try and find time to add some other vendors and maybe
 even make it
less ugly (and validate the html!)

Hi

Yes
you must update the clamav.

I am
doing it myself for the first time, beginner like you, but I use FreeBSD so I do
not know how to do it with redhat but I think you do it with an rpm manager or
download the rpm from clams site and install like new. But I bow to Redhat users

Hope

[Clamav-users] Problem with Clamav CVS 20040426

2004-04-26 Thread spiralvoice
Hi,

I am using Clamav on a pretty old libc5 system.
Compiling without libgmp works, clamscan and freshclam works.
Clamd also starts but does not scan anything. Strace on clamd reveals
this when using clamdscan:

13:01:21 gettimeofday({1082977281, 214557}, NULL) = 0
13:01:21 time([1082977281]) = 1082977281
13:01:21 accept(0,

Clamdscan strace shows this:

13:01:21 write(4, CONTSCAN /disk/develop/./strace, 37) = 37
13:01:21 fcntl(4, F_GETFL) = 0x2 (flags O_RDWR)
13:01:21 fstat(4, {st_dev=makedev(0, 0), st_ino=1966730,
st_mode=S_IFSOCK|0777, st_nlink=1, st_uid=0, st_gid=0, st_blksize=1024,
st_blocks=0, st_size=0, st_atime=104/04/26-13:01:20,
st_mtime=104/04/26-13:01:20, st_ctime=104/04/26-13:01:20}) = 0
13:01:21 mmap(0, 4096, PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE, MAP_PRIVATE|MAP_ANONYMOUS,
-1, 0) = 0x40008000
13:01:21 lseek(4, 0, SEEK_CUR) = -1 ESPIPE (Illegal seek)
13:01:21 read(4,

Any clue?

Greetings, spiralvoice

Another thing, did you recompile Clam after compiling GMP? Otherwise

Well, clamav source (both stable and devel) is always available on
www.clamav.net. You can compile it yourself.
Binary versions of CVS snapshot (the ones with devel-)
is usually available on clamav.or.id.
packages (rpm, deb) usually only have stable versions, not devel ones.

[Clamav-users] Re: clam-av/milter, NOW: that one resolved, moved on

I am no longer getting this error. I ripped everything out by the
roots, and started over. Instead of trying to build from source, I
downloaded binary packages from Dag Wieer's repository, and installed.

It seemed to go smoothly, and the three processes (clamd, freshclam,
clamav-milter) all started up without problem. The sendmail restarted
cleanly also.

There are two small problems:

1) Each message transaction takes significantly longer to complete.
I've boosted the timeout in the config file (to 600), and yet I'm still
getting the following errors in the maillog:

Apr 26 09:31:17 davinci sendmail[7530]: i3QDVHVI007530: Milter: data,
reject=451 4.7.1 Please try again later
Apr 26 09:31:17 davinci sendmail[7530]: i3QDVHVI007530:
to=[EMAIL PROTECTED], delay=00:00:00, pri=86363, stat=Please try
again later
Apr 26 09:31:33 davinci sendmail[7510]: i3QDRXVI007510: Milter
(clmilter): timeout during data read
Apr 26 09:31:33 davinci sendmail[7510]: i3QDRXVI007510: Milter
(clmilter): to error state

The second entry was from a message that was started 4 minutes
previously, well within the 10-minute timeout window. Eventually, I see
messages delivered - but I haven't done a one-to-one check on message
IDs yet to determine if ALL messages are delivered.

2) The second problem: Viruses are still getting through. More to the
point, viruses in the database are still getting through. Additionally,
no header line ([X-Virus-Scanned]). Therefore, I'm back to where I
started before clamav - only more slowly.

Not quite.

To activate any new features (ie, OLE scanning in this version) You should
see what config lines are in the .rpmnew files and intigrate them into your
existing conf files. And run a freshclam to make sure your virus db's are
up to date.

Nothing changed in regards to directories from clamav-0.70-rc to

[Clamav-users] Can't get clamav-milter going

2004-04-26 Thread George Bell
I had clamav antivirus working fine for a couple months. Now after a

ClamAv: Unable to bind to port local:/var/run/clamav/clamd.sock: Address

In use by possibly what? I haven't any idea what this message means or
what I can do about it. I've tried increasing the debug level but this
is about as much information as I can get. Also, I have tried going
through the archive of this list and found exactly the same question but
there was no answer.

Please help !!

The socket you start the clamav-milter process as an argument is used
for communicating with sendmail

depending on your clamd /etc/clamav.conf configuration, clamav-milter
will connect to clamd using ANOTHER socket.

If you specified the milter to use the same socket as clamd, the above
is what will happen.

Try stopping clamd, stopping clamav-milter.

Check the socket paths in the /etc/sysconfig/clamav-milter and the
arguments passed to clamav-milter (possibly in the init.d script). It
should be the same as what you have in your sendmail.mc/sendmail.cf file.
Check the socket path that clamd uses (clamav.conf). It should be
DIFFERENT than above.

If files exist there remove them.(use your judgement here)

I hope you are using the sendmail.mc method of sendmail configuration
instead of hand hacking the sendmail.cf, but thats not actualy relevant...

With sendmail stopped, I start clamd(which creates
/var/run/clamav/clamd.sock as before), then clamav-milter this time as
clamav-milter -options local:/var/run/clmilter.sock
Now I get error:

ClamAv: Unable to bind to port local:/var/run/clmilter.sock:
Permission Denied
ClamAv: Unable to create listening socket on conn
local:/var/run/clmilter.sock
the clamav-milter program will try to run as clamav user under typical
install.

Odds are that ls -la /var/run /var/run/clmilter.sock will show you a
permissions conundrum.
My recommendation?

Switch the sendmail/clamav-milter sock to point to
/var/run/clamav/clamav-milter.sock

I'm entering all these commands as root.

If sendmail is already running it issues a warning that
/var/run/clmilter.sock is missing. If I then try again to start
clmilter again the above error repeats.

So ???

Thanks

George

ClamAv: Unable to bind to port local:/var/run/clamav/clamd.sock:
Address already in use.

The socket you start the clamav-milter process as an argument is used
for communicating with sendmail

depending on your clamd /etc/clamav.conf configuration, clamav-milter
will connect to clamd using ANOTHER socket.

If you specified the milter to use the same socket as clamd, the
above is what will happen.

Try stopping clamd, stopping clamav-milter.

Check the socket paths in the /etc/sysconfig/clamav-milter and the
arguments passed to clamav-milter (possibly in the init.d script). It
should be the same as what you have in your sendmail.mc/sendmail.cf
file.
Check the socket path that clamd uses (clamav.conf). It should be
DIFFERENT than above.

If files exist there remove them.(use your judgement here)

In use by possibly what? I haven't any idea what this message means or
what I can do about it. I've tried increasing the debug level but this
is about as much information as I can get. Also, I have tried going
through the archive of this list and found exactly the same question but
there was no answer.

Try deleting the .sock file and restarting clamd. Maybe there's an old .sock
file left over from before the reboot.

Re: [Clamav-users] installation update require - trouble !

2004-04-26 Thread jjolet
just a word of advice for the future.i'd have put symlinks in the
old locations, not copied executablesthat's a good way to end up
with multiple versions down the line. if you make a symlink, then when
you upgrade in location a, location b now points to the correct
things...

i´ve solved the problem by deleting all files related to the old rpm,
uninstalling it and the, after
being certain that all file were gone, i've installed the new rpm.
my system kept the path to the old file so i had to copy the new ones
(executables) to these location
so that commands such as clamd --version would work without have to
write
the full path

here are the results for:

clamd / ClamAV version 0.70

freshclam / ClamAV version 0.70

[Clamav-users] Trying to install on old machine

2004-04-26 Thread Christian Hack
I'm running an old RH6.2 based box, which does most things OK for now (it's
still kernel 2.2 though). I'm looking to upgrade soon, but would like to get
ClamAV going on it for now.

When I run configure, I get these errors:
checking pthread.h usability... no
checking pthread.h presence... yes
configure: WARNING: pthread.h: present but cannot be compiled
configure: WARNING: pthread.h: check for missing prerequisite headers?
configure: WARNING: pthread.h: proceeding with the preprocessor's result
checking for pthread.h... yes

but it continues on. When I run make I get:

/bin/sh ../libtool --mode=compile
gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I.. -I.. -I./zziplib-g -O2 -c -o others.lo
`test -f 'others.c' || echo './'`others.c
rm -f .libs/others.lo
gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I.. -I.. -I./zziplib -g -O2 -c
others.c -Wp,-MD,.deps/others.TPlo -fPIC -DPIC -o .libs/others.lo
In file included from others.c:43:
/usr/include/pthread.h:141: parse error before `*'
/usr/include/pthread.h:143: `pthread_create' declared as function returning
a function

followed by a big bunch of errors.

The same errors appear in my config.log. Rather than attach it, I have
placed it here:
http://edmi.com.au/config.log

Am I asking too much from my old machine?

CH

Well, if it still failed to compile you could get my linux static binary
from http://clamav.or.id/. Should work on any linux i386.
Built from latest CVS snapshot. Clamav-milter included.

Fajar
