I suspect that Petr's rpms for clamav have been around longer than the
ones from dag.

I started using Petr's and prefer the directory structure and division
of files to the way it's done in dag's rpms. So far I've stuck with it.

[Clamav-users] Updating to clamav 8 from 7.5 on Redhat8

2004-11-03 Thread tester

Hello all, please bear with me since i am very new
to this list.

I have a RedHat 8.0 mail server that is running
clamav-0.75
and need some help to upgrade to clamav
.80

The first thing that i ran into was some failed
dependacies
see the output below
warning: clamav-0.80-1.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key
ID 6cdf2cc1 error: Failed dependencies:
 libcrypto.so.4 is needed by clamav-0.80-1
libssl.so.4 is needed by clamav-0.80-1

So then after some searching i learned that these
two files were a part of the openssl package and updating that package made
those dependancy errors go away.

I was still having some problems so on the advice
of another list, i tried rebuilding the RPM from source. When i went to install
it i ended up with another dependancy error.
see the output below...

[EMAIL PROTECTED]
root]# rpmbuild --rebuild -without milter clamav-0.80-1.src.rpm
Installing clamav-0.80-1.src.rpm error: Failed build
dependencies: bzip2-devel is needed by
clamav-0.80-1

I managed to
update this file and then i tried it agian.
Now i am
getting conflict errors.
see the output
below...

[EMAIL PROTECTED] i386]# rpm -ivh

So now i am thinking that maybe i need to uninstall
.75 and then try installing .80 but i do not know how to uninstall
.75

If someone on the list feels that this is the right
course of action then please tell me how to do it. Commands

Or just push me off of the cliff.

Heh, RPM dependancies can be fun :) Remove the old package. Been a
while (rpm -e clamav )IIRC

I always compile from source even when binaries are available on my
non-redhat systems. I can manage my own packages, thank you :)

In short, I would compile from source. It's a pretty straightforward
process. Plus you get the lastest features (or bugs)

rpm -e clamav
Or rather,
rpm -e clamav clamav-db clamd
DAG divides clamav into 4 packages (clamav, clamav-milter, clamav-db,
clamd) instead of just the 2 (clamav and clamav-milter) in the default
RPM spec. Unfortunately, that means if you upgrade from DAG's package
to a home-grown one, you can't just use rpm -Uvh like you would in most
situations.
