Stus-List Morring available in Newport
Hi Burt, and any other local CC transients, I’ll be away this coming weekend, and also entire week of august 18th. If anyone is interested in using my mooring let me know. Re: Stus-List A4 engine problems
a small % of gasoline in diesel is OK. I would not go for more than 5% at most for a short time. I had a diesel Golf, used to fill up in Mexico (at that time 1/5th price). Once I filled up at a different pump, got dirty fuel (some 'bugs' and water). A gallon of gas in 20+ gallon of diesel did the trick, the tanks (2) were clean with a 1/2 cup full of gunk in the bottom. No more stuff in the per-filter. Sold the car 80-100K miles later, at 190K. Never any problem. Leslie. I have been told that up to 10% gasoline in a large (25 gal) diesel tank would still be OK to use. I picked this up when discussing diesel truck refueling issues. I friend of mine with a fleet of diesel trucks panicked when he looked down and noticed he stuck a gas nozzle into his diesel tank. He paid for a tow and to have the tank drained and cleaned. Afterword’s we discussed the event and he thought he had put in 5 to 10 gal of gas into a 40 gal tank. I recommend you check your engine owner’s manual before paying $$ to pump out a diesel tank with a few gallons of gasoline added. Last year the attendant at a marina I was at accidentally filled the tank with diesel! The marina paid for a waste disposal truck to come down and pump the tank out. Then we put about 10 litres of gasoline in and pumped that out too. I like to think I got a free tank cleaning ... they paid for the fill, dinner, a night at the marina and a LIMO (to take us to dinner). Yeah, they made good on their mistake, and then some. Stus-List big $$$ used CC
Fair warning: You'll spend far more then you think refurbishing a neglected boat, even buying used stuff, being creative with eBay, and working on it yourself . My boat is a 1990 but was in need of maintenance. I spent over $1,000.00 just on partial (Very partial) replacement on running rigging and over $ 3,000.00 on Little Stuff like paint, door handles, clam cleats, hoses.. This is all stuff you don't really notice until you start going through it all in details / or they start failing. Most items are less than 100 bucks but when you have 50+ of them, it adds up in a big hurry. I'll be glad to share my spreadsheet detailing it all if you PM me. -Francois 1990 CC 34+ Take Five Lake Lanier, Georgia ___ This List is provided by the CC Photo Album Email address: CnC-List@cnc-list.com To change your list preferences, including unsubscribing -- go bottom of page at: http://cnc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/cnc-list_cnc-list.com

The amazing thing is that I did most of the work myself, and very little of it was cosmetic. That was intentional. The boat is structurally sound enough to survive anything that *I'm* structurally sound enough to survive, but if thieves are cruising by in a panga trying to decide which boat to break into, they'll probably choose somebody else. Re: Stus-List Head sink backing up?
Ray, On my CC 38 the bilge pump is routed into the overboard discharge of the sink in the head. If the discharge line becomes partially or fully blocked, the bilge water will back up into the sink. I would first check the overboard discharge valve and ensure it is fully open. If it is open, then most likely you have some gunk in the hose. Good luck! This is similar vintage to my 35-3, which has a drain straight down inside the 'vanity' to a through-hull valve. Make sure that valve is open to start with. There aren't any u-traps on my setup (you should be able to see under the sink), so you would probably be able to get a coat hanger or longer wire down to rod out any barnacles that may have set up home in there... Alternatively, close the through hull and check the hose to start with. We have to close the through hull when on a very heeled starboard tack otherwise the sink fills - that may be how the PO left it. My head sink was getting worse and worse until it took 20 minutes to drain. I poured Clorox down it and now it works perfect again. Seems it killed all the algae and such that was growing in it. Re: Stus-List big $$$ used CC
Danny - I've been using Quicken since the 1980's. These days it's easy -- just push a button and all transactions for your linked accounts are downloaded into your computer. Back then it was much tougher, and I had to dedicate an afternoon a month to data input. But it's worth it. Some people assume I have a 'bunch' of money, but the truth is that I just keep control of the little that I have, know where it's coming from and where it's going. For years, every morning I'd make coffee, and run two custom reports which were basically a P/L and Balance Sheet. One was titled 'Cash Out Value' to let me know how much money I'd have if I checked out and took off on the boat. It helped me to meet my defined objective. And it's cheap. I wouldn't use the new on-line version, though, because I wouldn't want all that information on someone else's server, that could be subpenaed. Down here, though, it's a cash economy, and I'm back to the 1980's... Wal Danny Haughey wrote: OMG... If i kept that that kind of accounting foe my boat I'd probably want to shoot myself!!! If you look closely at the underside of the hull-to-deck joint there are both thru bolts (the permanent fastening) and screws (probably temporary fastening during construction). This means you will have to completely remove the teak toe rail to get at the heads of the screws for their removal. (You would have to remove and reinstall the toe rail anyway.) Even though the part of the rub rail that sticks out beyond the hull is not structural or will not affect leak tight integrity, I think if you cut it off and put something else over it, it will look cheap. Also, I wouldn't want to add a bunch of screw holes into my hull (to mount a new rub rail over the old) just at the structural joint between the deck and the hull. I can tell you that the rub rail is made from white EPDM and paint does not stick well to EPDM. I'd bet you can scrape it off rather easily--you could also use a varnish remover to make it come off easier but be careful about this touching the hull. I think that before you try some Rube Goldberg fix like putting another rub rail over the outside, I would try very hard to clean the paint off. If the paint doesn't come off, I think I would try replacing the rub rail by removing the entire toe rail and all the screws. Then, try replace just a few feet at a time until you are all around the perimeter of the boat. There is probably enough flex in the outer part of the deck to do this. Re: Stus-List Replacing Rub Rail - Landfall 35 Now Landfall 38 rub rail
Hi, I was a bit surprised to hear people discuss about a white rub rail on the Landfall 38. I assumed they were all teak as I have on my LF38. That is, I have an iconic LF teak toe rail which bolts through the deck along with a separate teak rub rail (~ 1-1/2 x 5/8 ) which is screwed onto the bottom outside of the toe rail. I have just looked online, and I now notice other LF38 with the white rub rails, but I don't see any with a teak rub rail. The cabin's teak had just been re-oiled, Galley sink had a brand new shiny faucet, cushions had just been cleaned and in very good nick, sails appeared in decent shape etc, etc, etc. We all looked at the boat and all exclaimed OMG it's gorgeous.. I had it pre-purchase inspected and surveyed both.. My list is not near as long as yours although it's only over 12 months.. So far. But what I shared is actually a fraction of what I've spent on the boat in the past year. That was just a For Instance as a warning. Those boats are demanding mistresses my friends, demanding mistresses: Very pretty, ego stroking, entertaining, exciting, DEMANDING. Regards, -Francois 1990 34+ Take Five Lake Lanier, Georgia. Re: Stus-List big $$$ used CC
I've had my 1981 Landfall 38 since 1997. I've put a lot of money into everything from an engine rebuild to all new running gear, a new propane stove, Espar heater, sails etc. batteries Etc. Meantime I've installed new electronics on many of the Beneteaus sold into Nova Scotia, worked on a whack of other boats of all types, makes, sizes and conditions, and have never felt that the money I spent on Indigo was going to a poor place or should be invested in a newer boat. I think the reason is that my 33 year old boat is every bit as seaworthy as any of the others I've been on, works and sails as well as any, satisfies my aesthetic needs and, perhaps most important from my point of view, has soul that most of the new boats don't have. Next boat will be a 25' wood power boat with a comfortable chair and a BBQ on the stern deck. Rich On Aug 6, 2014, at 20:35, Dave Godwin via CnC-List cnc-list@cnc-list.com wrote: Ha! It's the little things. If I kept track of every dollar I spent on hoses, hose clamps, wires, crimps, sealant, epoxy, sandpaper, brushes, paint, tape, tools, lube, books, manuals, fittings, etc etc etc .. well, I'de be busy doing data entry I guess. But I don't. I sort of keep my receipts around in case I get the urge to tally it up one day but the truth is, I'm afraid. Lets not even get started on time. Then there's the big ones, sails, engine work, electronics and upgrades ... boats are expensive. It doesn't make a lot of sense, our sailing season is 5 months long. Friend of mine is $80k and 8 years into an Ericsson 30 rebuild. He can't get an offer of $20k.My CC 26 cost me $24k 12 years ago. Since then it's retail has halved and I've probably got $20k into it in up grades. When I bought it, there was no thought of selling it and there still isn't. Good job, 'cause this thought line can drive you nuts.I'm going to either leave it to one of the grandkids (if I can get one interested in sailing), or sail west until we (boat and I) fall off the edge - this is plan B 'cause I'm a lake sailor! sam :-) From: Dennis C. via CnC-ListSent: Wednesday, August 6, 2014 6:27 PMTo: cnc-list@cnc-list.comReply To: Dennis C.Subject: Re: Stus-List big $$$ used CCI quit tracking $$ when I went north of $20K. Bought my 35 Mk I for 13 k 15 years ago. Compared to beach house rentals for one week/ year, I'm ahead of the game. It's not an investment, it's what you do with your disposable income. My family has not suffered. Chris Price 35 Mk I p. s. Sailing to Baltimore, getting-a slip and walking to the Ravens game tomorrow. Back to the club Friday for a Bridal shower for my daughter. Can't put a price on that. Sent from my iPhone On Aug 6, 2014, at 11:07 PM, Sam Salter via CnC-List cnc-list@cnc-list.com wrote: Friend of mine is $80k and 8 years into an Ericsson 30 rebuild. When I bought it, there was no thought of selling it and there still isn't. Good job, 'cause this thought line can drive you nuts. I'm going to either leave it to one of the grandkids (if I can get one interested in sailing), or sail west until we (boat and I) fall off the edge - this is plan B 'cause I'm a lake sailor! sam :-) From: Dennis C. via CnC-List Sent: Wednesday, August 6, 2014 6:27 PM To: cnc-list@cnc-list.com Reply To: Dennis C.
