What year is your MKIII?  Our 1977 had aluminum frames.  Just curious...

My C has windows that are glued and screwed directly on the surface of the
cabin. There is no cavity, and no visible sealant, and yes they leak. I suspect
that they were glued down with Plexus or something similar, but I wish that
whoever did it had left out the screws. Anyway,

Has anyone attempted this sort of on-the-surface installation using VHB tape?
Seems there would be very little room for sealant. Maybe have to use an exposed
fillet?

A friend had a similar installation on his 23 footer. Used the VHB4991 tape and
the Dow 495, that w asss 20 years ago. Still no leaks.

Stus-List Networking Some Old Instruments & AIS Receiver

2017-12-15 Thread Tim Rutherford via CnC-List
I would like to get AIS info from my Raymarine AIS350 receiver and my
SeaTalk Wind, Depth, and Log into my Garmin GMAP541. It seems simple enough
with a SeaTalk to SeaTalkNG converter.

Here's a drawing of how I think it might work:

Power for the ST-STNG converter comes from the SPX-5 Course Computer.

What are the chances this could work?

Steve,
My 37+ has, pretty much, a surface installation, but with the 0.090"
VHB tap and a 3/16" bevel there is plenty of room for the sealant. My
windows are now 2 years old and no signs of leaking or problems of any
kind. They also really look attractive! See pictures of the project here

Stus-List Window replacement

2017-12-15 Thread robert via CnC-List

Hi Munden:

Where do you sail from?   I am guessing it is the Armdale Yacht Club.

I replaced all my cabin windows about 8 years ago..had tothey
all were leaking and there was no way to keep the water out other than
replace the windowsI tried everything else and it always eventually
failed.  At the time, I didn't know about the 3M tape so I used an
adhesive called Sikaflex UV 295 and the Sika primer.it was very
effective but more labor intensive than the tape would be.

I sail out of the RNSYS.if you need any input on this job, don't
hesitate to contact me.glad to pass on my experience(s) doing this
boat job.

Hi all,
Just want to say thanks to all for the helpful comments on here. I
have to change the port side cabin window this spring. Not looking
forward to it but all your suggestions sure does help. I'm new to
sailing, been power boating for about 18 years but just bought my
first sail boat last July. I've sailed on other people's boats but
being the skipper is a whole new thing.

Thanksfor the comments/help.
