Hi, all — Heidi & I were up at Crooked Lake overnight last night and today for
much of the day. All is good up there; I wanted to let everyone know that I
put the new registration stickers on our canoe and grandpa’s old fishing boat,
so they’re current now.Sarah & Bryce — Heidi probably already told you, but we
washed the sheets and towels we used, so everything should be set for Sarah’s

Re: Stus-List Raymarine wind

2018-06-16 Thread ALAN BERGEN via CnC-List
If the CAL legend on the digital display (small legend at the bottom of the
display) flashes for the first 30 seconds after any power up, use the
appropriate Calibration procedures to:

1. Apply the factory defaults.
2. Carry out the linearization procedure.

To do this:

1. Power up the wind instrument.
2. Slowly turn your boat through two complete circles (three to five
minutes for each circle). This procedure automatically linearizes the
windvane. A successful linearization is indicated by the digital display
flashing and the buzzer sounding three beeps.

Next set the instrument to factory defaults, and finally calibrate the
instrument. These procedures are in your owner's manual. If you don't
have the manual, let me know, and I'll copy the procedure for you.

Stus-List Late Launch

2018-06-16 Thread Bob Wooden via CnC-List

Always fun reading what others are doing...

I am not yet launched this year; although I am getting close... Other
than a quick splash last fall to motor across lake Michigan (WI to MI )
to bring Rhapsody home after I moved; she has not been in in the water
for 4 years.  My job and new house/moving etc. got in the way.  But this
year I am going sailing!

So I though I'd share my launch list this year (some done, some not yet
done)...  Rhapsody is a 75 model year (built late '74) C 27 Mk 3.  She
still has the original Universal Atomic 4; normally runs like a sewing
machine.  She has been a great boat for me, I've sailed all over Lake
Michigan.  And she sails to her rating, I've done OK in the distance
races I've entered.  But boats don't take setting for a few years in
storage very well...

 * I had fixed some soft core before storing a few years ago. Still
needed to apply nonskid (KiwiGrip is great stuff, and the gray looks
great against the white decks) and reinstall the starboard chainplates
 * I needed to repaint the entire hull blue again.  I had repaired some
damage caused by a bow anchor that got loose and the primer was
already done.  Needed to finish sand everything, paint topsides,
boot stripe, and bottom.  Install new graphics for "Rhapsody" and
   registration numbers.
 * The shift linkage for the Atomic 4 was very stiff; almost unusable
last fall.  I tried to oil it, but it did not help. Replacing the
teleflex "cable"; what fun.  The binnacle end was not too bad, but I
hate working stuffed in the very small cockpit lockers.  I don't fit
very well (at 6'3" and 260lb); other than the access it is not that
   bad.
 * Replaced the cooling water impeller (again, no fun in the locker).
 * Repaired the autopilot.  The old AutoHelm 3000 wheel pilot has
always worked well, but failed during my trip last fall.  It would
only turn to port, not starboard.  Diagnosed and replaced the output
Darlington transistors based on comments on this list and it works fine
 * Clean gas tank, carburetor  and fuel filters.  When I motored across
the lake last fall I had to keep the choke out to keep the engine
running, so 4 year old gas (even with stabilizer) is not good...
 * Change oil and put the water lines back on for launch
 * Change spark plugs; check points, distributor cap etc
 * etc...  etc...

You get the idea...  I just thought that others might like to see the
type of effort maintaining a  good old boat takes.  I also read with
interest the notes from the C rescue committee earlier this week; I am
just trying to just save my own.

Re: Stus-List Raymarine wind

2018-06-16 Thread ALAN BERGEN via CnC-List
On the ST50/60/60+ instruments, there has to be 8 volts between the red
wire and the screen. Less than 8 volts won't do. The i50/60 instruments
are probably the same. I had a similar problem with my wind display. I
thought it was the masthead transducer. When I discovered the lower (7.2
volts) voltage, I ran a connection from the red wire on one of the other
instruments to 12 volts. That raised the red to screen voltage to 8
volts. I then had to linearize the instruments and it cured the problem.

Re: Stus-List Battery Monitor

2018-06-16 Thread Edd Schillay via CnC-List
Josh,

First of all, the previous owner did a piece-of-shunt job (see what I did
there?) with the wiring. It’s a mess. And, as such, I’m not getting accurate
readings. I thought I’d do a rewire, but wiring diagrams for this thing are
really hard to find (I found one scan on Google, but it was faded and had fold
lines.)

Also, the manual looks to be written for electrical engineers — not my forte at
all. And I’d like to be able to program the thing without bringing aboard a
scientific calculator, an abacus, and my MacBook Pro.

The new ones are far simpler — and has one screen which will show voltage, a
graphic meter of power remaining, charge in/charge out, etc. And all I need to
enter is the rated Ah of the batteries.

I also like the the M2 unit has the ability to add an alarm so that when you
drop to a user-set number, like 30%-40% (Though I'd never go below 50%), you
know you better get a charge going ASAP.

And so, Link2000, you are the weakest link. Goodbye.

All the best,

Edd

Re: Stus-List Raymarine wind

2018-06-16 Thread Chad Osmond via CnC-List
We had the opposite, speed didn't show, but direction did. Sending it to
Raymarine was a fixed rate repair. They replaced the speed portion of the
unit.

You can check the back of the unit to watch the voltage swings indicating
direction, but odds are it's the masthead sensor.

To verify, check the blue and green wires against the sheild. They will be
between 2 and 6v depending on the wind direction. Blue / Ground is port.
