Re: Stus-List Boat insurance...reimbursement vs. depreciated

2019-11-14 Thread Rick Brass via CnC-List
I guess they must have updated the application software. I had been covered for
3 years when they realized that Imzadi, my 38, was too big for their
underwriting standards.

I do admit that while I was covered, I was occasionally amused by the
promotional messages that lauded how big a benefit it was that they covered
road service on the trailer for my boat.

After Progressive didn’t renew my policy a local agent placed me with Victoria,
the marine insurance subsidiary of Nationwide. Good experience until they
stopped insuring boats in North Carolina.

Re: Stus-List Fuel filter vacuum gauge(s)

2019-11-14 Thread Bill Coleman via CnC-List
I believe you are right, but this is confusing to me as the Primary is the
(first) filter between the lift pump and the tank, and the secondary is under
pressure after the lift pump.

Got me interested, I found this,

https://books.google.com/books?id=vHI__6p_uxQC

=PA146=PA146=secondary+filter+gauge=bl=2XrLgc30QZ=ACfU3U0rAWI6VQoGFsYnBTciGpMUnhCLJg=en=X=2ahUKEwiIqJKf9erlAhVFVd8KHfIrA1IQ6AEwEHoECAgQAQ#v=onepage=secondary%20filter%20gauge=false

and it seems you would need a pressure gauge, but not sure of the range. You
could certainly T something in.

However in some 30 years, I have never had a secondary filter clog. I think I
may have preventively replaced a couple, but mostly the primaries, where all
the crap ends up.

This article makes an interesting point, that putting too fine a micron on your
primary can destroy your lift pump.

I think Andy alluded to only using 20 or 30 microns as the primary a bit ago.

Hello all,

I mentioned a while back that adding a vacuum gauge to my fuel filter was on my
list. Not an emergency, but just something that will give me a bit more piece
of mind.

I understand that I should tee in between the Racor and the lift pump, and any
significant vacuum would mean the Racor is getting clogged.

However, is there a way to also plumb in a gauge to know the condition of the
the primary filter on the engine as well? It occurred to me that since the
line leading into the primary filter on the engine would be under pressure from
the lift pump, a vacuum gauge wouldn't work.

Thoughts?

On Fireball (C 35 Mk2) I have two sets of tracks. The aft set runs from
approximately the fwd cockpit main winch, 6" inboard of the toerail at a slight
inboard angle to the second set which run parallel to the deck house to the aft
lower shroud about 2" outboard from the on-deck aft spinnaker deck fitting.
The angle between the two is slight enough that the twin sheet genoa lead block
will pass the junction. Boat carries two of these blocks to facilitate double
headsail changes. The no.1 & 2 are lead outboard of all shrouds , the no.3 is
lead inboard of aft two shrouds, outboard of the fwd shroud. This winter
adding a 2' section of track forward from the fwd shroud parallel to the toe
rail to handle the #4 (80%) and the #4 being used as a staysail, being tack on
the fwd bow-centerline track.

It looks like your aft track is further outboard than mine too, so this must be
a mk1 vs mk2 difference, as those positions have factory access panels in the
liner.
