The Yanmar pump is a Swedish made Johnson pump. I ordered some parts from
pumpvendor.com I don't think they were actual Johnson pump parts, but they
were inexpensive. Next year's maintenance will show whether or not it was
a good choice. Pump vendor sells complete Johnson pumps, maybe contact
them and make sure it's actually a Johnson, if so, I'd say go for it.

Hi Stu,

Thank you working on this. Can you structure it to where it has the sender
as Stus List ( or C&C List ), then CC the sender...? That way people would
have the option of replying to the community or replying only to the

My 2 cents.

I guess that's why the NHC puts out all those adviseries and cone of
uncertainty. We've lived in SW Fl for too many years and been through a few of
those " won't come here" scenerios. Hurricane Charley being one of them. We
learned a long time ago that's it's a lot cheaper and less stressful if you
just prepare. Charley was headed to Tampa but made that unexpected turn and
nail our little city flat. All except our house and our boat. Not bragging, but
we knew what could happen. We had very little damage cause we had prepped. I
can only say sorry to hear about your damage and hope it's not too bad. I'm
sure you will prep more next time. TedS/V TenTen  '81. 40'Punta Gorda Fl.

Stus-List Think your boat is safe at a floating pier?

2020-09-16 Thread Dennis C.
I've been looking at storm damage on Facebook and youtube. I've also been
chatting/texting with lots of boatowners, etc.

Here's one thing that might surprise some. I've several times referred to
Touche' being on a Category 3 rated floating pier. There are several
marinas in the Pensacola area with similar if not nearly identical
construction. Based on reports, two of them are destroyed; Palafox Pier in
downtown Pensacola and Barber Marine on the ICW at Orange Beach.

Here's video of Palafox Pier's floating docks in the aftermath of Sally:

https://www.facebook.com/daniel.elliott.13/videos/10221654064716893/

These docks, and all the boats tied to them, were displaced and carried
about .2 nautical miles north of their original location. This also
happened in 2004 during Hurricane Ivan. Go to the link below and scroll
down 12 pictures. The piers are in nearly the same spot. Deja vu.

https://www.tcpalm.com/picture-gallery/weather/2019/08/19/15-years-later-photos-damage-wrought-hurricane-ivan-florida-hurricanes-pensacola/2052705001/

So, don't go thinking that your boat is safe just because it's on a
floating pier.

2020-09-16 Thread Edward Levert
Dennis as we all know speaks the truth. For the third time this season I
have stripped all canvas in light of storm threats that never materialized.
Put out additional lines. Some might call me alarmist. But I have done it
over 50 years of boat ownership and have only lost one boat, my C&C 27 Mk I
to Katrina. After 15 years of waiting on local politics, I now am in the
luxury of a new Marina with floating docks which are rated to a 20 ft give
or take surge. But the one thing that frost me supremely are owners,
friends included, who do nothing banking on their insurance. What they
don't realize is that a roller furled jib that tears loose or some other
breakdown of inadequate mooring and preparations can cause damage to other
boats in the harbor and or the harbor itself.

We have become reliant on forecast that in theory gives a projection 5 days
out. 3 days ago Sally was projected to come ashore south of New Orleans.
Pensacola is 200 miles east. And as Dennis states Pensacola was never
thought to be in the bullseye. Pensacola wasn't even in the cone. It is bad
luck that Touché may have lost a Genoa. Hopefully that is all. When I lost
the 27 which I had owned since the early 80's I knew I had done all that I
could do to prepare.

Stus-List Hurricane prep.

2020-09-16 Thread Charlie Nelson via CnC-List
Hopefully the damage to your boat and dock won’t be too extensive.
Our club requires boats over about 24 ft to vacate their slip when a hurricane
warning is issued for the county. Most anchor in a nearby fairly wide and deep
(in NC deep is 7 ft or more!) creek that our marina abuts. Some get hauled out
at local boatyards. Either way, the dock has a better chance of surviving
without the boats.
Of course, anchoring is also a crap shoot since other’s boats can drag and take
another ashore or aground.
I anchored Water Phantom before Iasias came thru. Since I was traveling for the
next several weeks (during the peak hurricane season) I left her there (saw her
yesterday!) with 2 anchors (~60 lb and 30 lb danforths). My plan is to leave
her there until early October. Currently she shares the creek with only 1 other
boat.
I took the headsail down and wrapped, secured mainsail and boom (good) and
turned everything but the ACR off (bad) since it was ‘new’ to me and as I left
the boat didn’t realize that it drew some amps(about 15 mA)—hopefully after 10
weeks I will still have some battery power left!
Good luck to all in any hurricane’s path—no matter how well you prepare your
boat, ultimately it comes down to luck and your insurance.  Unfortunately,
neither life nor anchoring is risk free.

Hi Stu

First a hearty THANK YOU for all you do. This list is invaluable and truly
adds to the value of owning a C&C. Any upgrade will have its challenges so we
just muddle along to identify and fix

FWIW I have had zero problems while you are dealing with these issues. My
Outlook rule keys off Stus-List in the from line to segregate all list emails

Personally prefer some means for us to contact the sender off list

I have a 3gmf (20hp) engine. I replaced the water pump with one from
marinepumpdirect.com. It looks exactly like the Yanmar pump, and is a
direct replacement at half the price of a Yanmar pump. The impeller is
slightly different, so you can't use a Yanmar impeller as a replacement.

Hi Matt, I have a new (only used a few times) symmetrical spinnaker. Color
is white and black. Sail maker is Doyle. It was purchased at the end of our
sailing season, and I decided to fly an A-sail the following season. I sold
the 35 and the sail didn't go with the boat, so it's been sitting in my

2020-09-16 Thread Hoyt, Mike
Hi Stu

Is nice to have Stus-List somewhere for filtering (subject line is OK) and very
nice to know who sent the email.

In the past from was in this format:
CnC-List ; on behalf of; David Risch via
CnC-List cnc-list@cnc-list.com

In the mail panel would show up as David Risch via CnC-List.

REPLY ALL would then have cnc-list@cnc-list.com
as TO and davidri...@msn.com as CC

Not meaning to single out David but that is one email I happened to save.

What was great about that is we could filter on FROM and also see who the email
was from.

Thanks for doing this!
