I use carabiners for my Jacklines but I don’t put them in series in the chain,
I use as a toggle inserted in the sewn-in loop, to secure it in the hole in the
toerail. My jacklines are custom made load-rated cargo slings used in the
material handling biz.
I’m still pondering the midship cleat but If I were to use carabiners it would
be in this manner. Effectively, the carabiner is a captive pin.

Do some research on the load handling ability of spring hooks and
carabiners. As I recall they are nowhere near as strong as the line to
which they are tied. This has been my hesitation in using them.

Stus-List Attaching spring line to toe rail

2021-03-19 Thread Dennis C. via CnC-List
Last week's discussion on midships cleats got me to innovating (again).
Here's my latest idea.

I took an old spring hook and slid 1/4 ID black surgical tubing over it.
It clips easily onto the soft shackle which stays permanently affixed to
the toe rail. It's easier than putting the soft shackle through the eye of
the spring line every time. The tubing keeps the spring hook from damaging
the topsides paint since it now hangs below the rub rail.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1AL3VUgx_Xk2PStPI65nMAITnPXBOey8m/view?usp=sharing

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fnnEaS9gIv-3f_y7qCSszqHrLlrzKjei/view?usp=sharing

The tubing slid on fairly easily after I lubricated it and the spring hook
with dishwashing detergent.

Hi Bill
12V DC TVs are sometimes stocked in the Trucker Fuel Stops. Also Walmart  had
one with an adapter 120Vac to 12 DC. Figure the polarity and cut off the
adapter .Wire up to the boat with a fuse & good to go. Many options on  sending
video to the new TV/Monitor.

Attaching the blocks to the mast assures the load is carried by the mast, not

Well, there is Imzadi. And I also still have Belle, my 25 mk1, though I really
should find someone else to love her. And there is a Tanzer 16 dinghy.

Does the fact that the Grady White 19 Fisherman in the back driveway has not
been in the water for almost 10 years put me in the same category as Andrew
Burton?

In the last couple days, list messages have started ending up in my spam
folder. I use gmail.

Anyone else using gmail having this issue?

I'm re-creating my filter(s) to send them to my C list folder. Hopefully
this will resolve the issue for me but I'm concerned what gmail thinks the list
emails are spam.

I have also clicked the "Report Not Spam" link in gmail.

TBH I'm not sure. Unfortunately he wasn't even sure... At least 5. They
get it mixed in the pot and just keep going. Cooler temps make it go on
thicker and hotter temps force them to work faster. The bottom of the wing
keel really threw the count off too.

Stus-List Re: Mast Base Blocks

2021-03-19 Thread Ron Casciato via CnC-List
Also a big Garhauer fanI have their blocks on shackles like David, lines
led to deck organizers on each side and then back to the cockpit through
sheet stoppers before the winches on the cabin roof. Those lines are always
under some tension and hold the blocks up nicely.

This set up is a much better racing plan and keeps crew off the deck and
foredeck most of the time.

3 jib halyards, 1 main halyard, 1 ASYM tack line (led from the bow), 1
outhaul, and 1 reef line, and 1 Garhauer Rigid vang line.

All lines run into the cabin through two flush Lewmar opening ports on the
bulkhead. Replaced the instruments with the ports and it keeps the lines
out of the cockpit nicely as well.

All of the original winches have been removed and deck faired smooth.

Hard to beat Garhauer for quality and price.

I had my bottom stripped this past summer. The guy used what can only be
described as a hand held planer to strip the gel-coat and layers of fiberglass.
He relaid 2 layers of fiberglass and then barrier coated it with a MIL-spec
product. MIL-DTL-24441 Ultra High Solids (UHS) by Sherwin Williams

https://industrial.sherwin-williams.com/na/us/en/protective-marine/catalog/product/mil-dtl-24441-type-iv.9528308.html

I found a little bit of research from the US Navy about it.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Nvoi-ISVw-EBBAdXvqyUkA1ABqBhvKOe/view?usp=drivesdk

The guy that did the job claims he's one of the only people who still do this
type of work in the Chesapeake Bay area. He raves about the quality of the
MIL-spec stuff. Said it is a 2 part epoxy (the same as interprotect 2000 but
way harder and better). 路‍♂️
