Dear JK,

Donated. This is great stuff. Beyond she launched in ’71, we know incredibly
little about the history of our boat. Every last shred of info regarding her,
her type, and the company and it’s people is precious to us. Thank you so much.

Once her repairs are completed next year (helps to set a deadline), we hope to
take her up the river to visit Belleville, her birthplace, and then Kingston
and the museum.

Stus-List Butyl Tape tips

2021-08-09 Thread Robert Abbott via CnC-List

Joel

I have to say I have never had a problem with butyl...my 1984 C
deck/hull is sealed with butyl and still no leaks...I have rebeaded
various deck fittings with butyl with no leaks.  For the obvious easy
rebeading and removal, if necessary, , I wouldn't use anything else.

2021-08-09 Thread Dave Godwin via CnC-List
I’m surprised that you had problems with leaks from the butyl used by C

I pulled all the hardware off of my boat and in every instance where butyl was
used, the core was bone-dry. No leaks. Nada. Zip. None. Dust dry core.

The only leaks that I had were the subsequent deck hardware installations that
I did (poorly) using 4200 and Sikaflex.

All the re-bedding that I have done has been with the butyl that I purchased
from the Maine guy...

I'm using butyl for the first time and learning to like it. I'm refitting my
boat outside and have to work around humidity, blazing sun and wind and rain.
Another Butyl advantage is that it never cures or gets hard, so you can prepare
deck hardware, (wrap some butyl around each fastener), inside the cabin at
night, or at home while having an adult beverage and install it the next day,
or bag it and install it days later or whenever weather conditions are better.

Before butyl, I had success using 3M 4200 and 4000UV but once open, you have to
use the tube within 24 hours or toss it. They are good products, and quicker
than butyl, but incur some waste and that makes them very expensive. I save
them for thruhulls and deck fills.

I appreciate the seven drawings I was able to purchase back when they first got
the collection. 2012 or maybe 2015. At that time, the museum people would
search through the pile of documents and scan the ones that applied. The
drawings for the 1989 34/36 were lost somehow in the fire or taken by Tartan,
who knows, but I too sent a little more $$ to help the museum's effort.

If you haven't been following along, I am scanning GHC's personal binders of
articles, notes, photos and correspondence.  They start with his birth and
follow his growth as a sailor, designer and gentleman.  Dad left C in 1982,
but continued his interest in her and the yachting world.  You will see some of
his other designs because even though he stopped being the chief designer in
1972 he never did stop designing.

There are some repeat articles, do not feel the deja vu feeling is unwarranted.

Also I do not have any permission to reprint any of these articles and the

I second Chuck’s comments, I have used 3 rolls of the Bed-It butyl tape during

Stus-List George Harding Cuthbertson's Binder 1982 - 2008

2021-08-09 Thread JohnKelly Cuthbertson via CnC-List

I should have made it a harder challenge :-)  Thanks to all that
contributed to the Marine Museum of the Great Lakes campaign to
  digitize the C drawings collection

If you haven't been following along, I am scanning GHC's personal
binders of articles, notes, photos and correspondence.  They start
with his birth and follow his growth as a sailor, designer and
gentleman.  Dad left C in 1982, but continued his interest
in her and the yachting world.  You will see some of his other
designs because even though he stopped being the chief designer in
1972 he never did stop designing.
There are some repeat articles, do not feel the deja vu feeling
  is unwarranted.
Also I do not have any permission to reprint any of these
articles and the copywrites belong to the original
  publisher/writer.
Here we go...
