Stus-List Re: Boat for Sale

2023-06-09 Thread Richard Arper via CnC-List
I’m out in Puget Sound and have a C 34+, hull # ZCC34+39C090, deep keel,
named Xanax (previous owner was a psychologist).

Not sure if that means I have hull #39 or 90. I’m thinking hull #39 in 1990?

After having a C 34, hull # 264 for 35 years, we bought the 34+ 7 years ago
and enjoy the boat very much, a great sailing boat, sails much different
(nicer) than the 34.

We love the interior layout and the way that it sails.

I single hand it almost all the time.

The photos of Savage definitely look like it needs some TLC.

I’m not a fan of the traveler in the cockpit, ours is on the cabin top.

Looks like the same Harken traveler that I have, I rebuilt mine with new
bearing balls.

Also not a fan of the red interior, but to each their own.

I redid my interior and that was costly.

Interior teak looks a little rough, but salvageable.

Needs instruments, which is a little pricey.

I have a dual cylinder hydraulic backstay, Savage has a manual adjuster.

I also have a 3 blade Maxi-Prop.

Engine hours could be an issue.

During Covid I resealed all the cabin top mounted hardware and the overhead
ports, so now a very dry boat.

But if the hull/rigging is sound and watertight, with some elbow grease and
upgrades, it could be nice.

Stus-List Re: Engine strangeness

2023-06-09 Thread cenelson--- via CnC-List
If you have been keeping up with your filter changes (primary, secondary,
Racor, etc.) and the boat is used regularly, my bet is on an air leak somewhere
in the fuel system, perhaps generated by changing your filters.
An overtightened Racor can deform the lid and allow air in and any change in
the mechanical fuel pump may reduce what fuel it can deliver especially at high
rpm.
As others have suggested, it could be fuel crud as well.
Either way I would follow the KISS principle and check the simplest possible
solution first before proceeding to more complicated solutions—something I have
a tendency to do! (e.g. if you hear the sounds of a stampede, assume they are
horses and not hippos).
It took my mechanic and myself several years to determine that my similar fuel
delivery problem was likely caused by a mechanical lift pump barely able to
deliver enough fuel at high rpm ( Beta engine replaced original Yanmar and the
Beta pump was barely able to left the fuel to the engine compounded by air
leaks, etc.)
Ultimately after a few years of erratic operation he bypassed the mechanical
pump and added a simple electric fuel pumps (x2) for redundancy and they were
cheap!) and problem was solved—although we never confirmed with confidence what
the original problem(s) were.

If you have a gas engine, there might be a filter at the end of the pickup
tube (in the tank). Pull the tube and check to see if it's clogged. My
previous boat had an Atomic Foiur engine. After many years, it would run in
idle, but not at speed. When I pulled the tube, there was a filter that was
clogged. After I dissolved the clog, the engine ran fine.

Stus-List C 37 for sale NC

2023-06-09 Thread John Conklin via CnC-List
Preliminary notification.
 I am preparing my C 37 for sale…
Recently sold my home on water while market was hot, but kept the slip I own,
and My C !
With no home base, admiral says it's time for an upgrade to a more live aboard
40 ish cruising boat.

This will be an amazing deal for someone! If anyone is looking, interested,
know anyone or stepping up in size please reach out. She is a beautiful sailing
boat and will be hard to match that. We have won every local regatta at least
once with this cruiser? til the J34C arrived!

I now race my Etchells which is a blast, so we have been just day sailing the
C for the past few years.
She’s a clean1982 standard version with 5’6” draft (mars modified bulb keel)
Hull cleaned monthly by local diver since I have owned. Shows very well for her
age, and ALL systems working fine including the A/C! 略

Will post again shortly with more details for this amazing group prior to
listing.

Thanks All !!

David,

My thinking is it’s not water, as once it stopped, it probably wouldn’t start
again until it was cleaned out. Nevertheless, check the filter and bleed the
injectors if needed.

It could be air, so try your bleed points and get the bubbles out.

As someone mentioned, there could be some crud in the line somewhere that
eventually blocks the fuel and then backs off so you can start again.

My money is on crud in the lines somewhere. Maybe your primary filter needs
replacement.

All the best,

Edd

Don't know much about Savage. Never saw her but do know she is hull 22 of 94
hulls built. Documented as No. 96637 and her HIN is ZCC34+22A090, started
January 1990. Might be worth taking a trip to see some sights in NYC. Looks
like the deep draft keel, 7' 4". Best sailing performance if you can sail in
deep water. These boats are rare. They only made 94 hulls and they are spread
out across the US and Canada.

Stus-List Re: Engine strangeness

2023-06-09 Thread Edd Schillay via CnC-List

Edd

Check your filters as well, especially the one on the motor. If crud is in
there and moving around it will restrict fuel flow when the boat heals

If this is the first time, there is a possibility there is water in the fuel
due to condensation forming over the winter. Pull the Racor filter and
check for water. If so, drain as much as you can, then dump some fuel
treatment into the tank and run the engine for an hour or so. Should be
effective and solve the problem. Might be a good time to replace the filter
element as well.

David,

Crud in fuel pick-up? You may have sucked it through. Or not!

Stus-List Boat for Sale

2023-06-09 Thread htomsutton--- via CnC-List
I have been watching an ad for a 34+ named Savage that is with BoatMax in
Bronx, New York. It’s been for sale for awhile so I suspect it might be in
need of some TLC. Wondering if anyone is familiar with the boat and could
comment on it. It’s a 10 hour drive to go see it and it might save a lot of
time if it is too far past it’s best before date.

Cheers,
