The furling system was damaged and the rigging (Navtec rod rigging) stressed requiring an inspection. Thus began a saga that is still ongoing. Initially a Rigger was contracted in Rock Hall to do the inspection, etc. He disappeared and when finally located we had to threaten legal action to get my property back (Mast and rigging). That was 2014. We then had the mast and rigging transferred to Annapolis Rigging for inspection and repair. It has been reported that they have everything to complete the repairs and reinstall. Some confusion seems to have occurred as the boat is out of the water in Worton Creek so Annapolis Rigging needs to go to the boat, the boat can’t come to them. (for the record, they had to come over to the Eastern shore to retrieve the mast in the first place). Here is where the ask is – Is anyone close enough to Annapolis Rigging to stop in and have them call me. BoatUS and I have been trying since August to reach them to get the estimate to approve for them to arrange for a crane, etc. to come and “assemble mast, step mast, block and tune mast, install boom, run lines, and hook up electric”. On the way back we motored around loafing at about 4 knots for 30 minutes as we headed for the channel back to the slip. Halfway in it died again. I used the electric fuel pump to be sure it was 'primed' and it started right up and then quit again after about 30 seconds. By then, we were close enough to the slip to sail in--kept the main up for just such an event--which we did without issues (a competent crew of 6 can do that!). Ran it in the slip at full throttle and it died again after about 3 minutes. Started tight up, ran again at full throttle and it died again. Fuel tank is only 3 hours into a full tank (48 gallons) and the pick-up tube was replaced last year to go further down into the tank so neither the fuel level or pick-up tube level can be issues. I also added some Stan-dyne (?) when I last filled the tank earlier this year. The Neuse River was almost flat since we had only a 5 knot breeze so I doubt that it was 'stirred up' crud from the tank. Haven't replaced the fuel filter between the tank and the engine or the engine mounted one this season (did it last year) so that is my first chore since IMHO it looks like a fuel issue or an air in the fuel line issue. I also will check all the clamps that are used to seal the fuel line from the tank to the engine. Does the list have any other suggestions/ideas besides what I listed? By the last round, she was the fastest boat, but did not have the points necessary to become the challenger. As a matter of fact, Stars and Stripes actually raced for the cup using the sails that were developed for Heart of America. Last time I saw Heart of America she was on a mooring in Burnham Harbor in Chicago. Renamed and converted into a private yacht with engine, interior, and everything. She ran in several Chicago Mac races, but had such a handicap that we used to joke that she started after the rest of the fleet was half way to Mackinac. Pretty boat though. I have a Garmin 741 with touchscreen and WiFi and am very happy with it. The touch screen works well and is pretty intuitive - especially if you've used Garmin before. Using the WiFi with an iPAD is great. I can either use the Garmin Bluechart navigation program using the boat's GPS location or can use the iPAD as a remote station using Garmin Helm. This let's me see and control exactly what the unit at the helm has and lets me lay in a new course for the helmsman or, if the autopilot is on, the change the autopilot remotely. I found through personal experience when I was much younger the following three precautions that I try my best to follow: 1. Get enough sleep the night before boating. Being sleepy is similar to dizziness (at least for me) and sleepiness can make seasickness (unless it is caused by Bonine) more likely (unless you can just sleep) 2. Don't be hung-over. Same as sleepiness but with nausea added. Starting out like that is a bad move. 3. Eat a decent breakfast. Low blood sugar and/or a stomach full of junk (candy bars, Fritos, donuts) can cause dizziness and nausea which the gentle motion of the sea will push squarely into the red zone. I've tried ginger in various forms and am not quite convinced of its effectiveness. Never heard of Stugeron but am now interested in trying it. I see online that the active ingredient is an antihistamine: Cinnarzine. How is the drowsiness compared to that of Bonine (meclizine)? I see that the brain has a vomit center. The trick is to prevent signals originating in the inner ear from reaching the VC. Apparently antihistamines are able to do this. And, it seems, they always make you more or less sleepy. Re: Stus-List Sealed-Up Centerboard and PHRF Credit
There is a noticeable improvement in upwind pointing and speed with the centerboard down and having a boat that only draws 4.5' with the centerboard up vs. 6.5 for the fixed keel version opens up a lot of cruising in a Bay that is very shallow. I've had the pendent break on my old CC 35 and on my CC 37, but both time were because of lack of maintenance. I replace it at least every 5 years now and the expense is pretty modest. Yup the centreboard ... And the cable snapped. We were able to hauler her and put her in her cradle for the winter. Pulled the cable out and it was badly corroded ... Just a few strands intact so over due for replacement. Arranged to have south shore yachts do the replacement - and when ghey removed the pin and remaining cable the pin was 70% or more worn thru, the thimble was also well worn ... Good thing it happened in a calm harbour And the admiral was not on board. The new fittings look much more substantial and should out last my sailing days! Re: Stus-List 2012 Annapolis Bermuda Race CC 37
I do - it’s my boat. As noted in Joel’s email, I’ll be doing the race again this year. I want to thank all of you in advance for your support, advice, patience, equipment and even sails that have made it possible for me to enter the race. There will be fellow CC ers on the boat both ways! Our class includes Steve Sharkey's CC 37 as well as a mini transat 21 footer and a 100 foot schooner. Should make the starting line interesting. You can track us at www.bermudaoceanrace.com. They are using Spots, not Yellowbrick. Finally, as a follow up to an earlier post, I ran out of time to make a fancy enclosure for the frig compressor. Some corrugated plastic board from Home Depot and duct tape will suffice for now. If nothing else, it will serve as a template for a more permanent solution. -- Joel The Office Annapolis 301 541 8551 ___ This List is provided by the CC Photo Album Email address: CnC-List@cnc-list.com To change your list preferences, including unsubscribing -- go bottom of page at: http://cnc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/cnc-list_cnc-list.com ___ This List is provided by the CC Photo Album Email address: CnC-List@cnc-list.com To change your list preferences, including unsubscribing -- go bottom of page at: http://cnc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/cnc-list_cnc-list.com

Congratulations. We've all had ugly experiences docking so don't let it get to you. We wound up backing out of the marina breakwaters after fending off successfully several boats. Embarrassing? Yes but a great lesson. And unfortunately upon return, there were mumblings about a woman at the helm . It wasn't pretty but there was no damage. We ended up drilling a new hole in the side of the vertical casting to press the pin out, after removing the hair-diameter cotter with small needle nose. I'll consider this newly-drilled hole a nice feature the mfg. forgot to include, until someone knows of a better way to get these apart... The one end is hooked to the shift lever and the other to the transmission. You can follow the old one and get your length. It is (as was said) a Morse cable and is available at many boat stores. It is threaded at each end - you take the ends off the old and put on the new. The biggest problem is getting the pedestal apart to get to the lever end - I had to use heat and solvent (PB Blaster or WD40) and an impact screwdriver to get the flat plate off the top of the casting which holds the lever. Don't scrimp on the length, if you are uncertain, buy the next longer cable, it can always run a bit loose in the lazerette area. I don't remember the lengthy, and was replacing the throttle cable which may be a different length.
