Josh,
There is another C 37/40 in the yard with a Max prop. No play at all in
that prop.

Thank you for the replies.
The shaft taper does not seem to be an issue.I placed the spinner housing
on the shaft without the key and with the key. The position of the housing
doesn't change at all.
The shaft key as you can see in the video is captured wholly within the
body of the prop "spinner" housing, so I don't believe that is the issue.
Josh, there seemed to be some abnormal wear issues when I disassembled it.
I couldnt get any good pictures, being so small.
Here is a link to a video showing me installing the prop, including a good
view of the slop I am concerned about.

The prop is now on its' way back to PYI. I'd like to say Jerome's response
to my concern has been terrific. He's followed up with several calls and
had me send it back to them on their UPS account.
We will see hopefully soon what the issue may be.

When you speek of "play" are you referring to wiggle between the blades,
or wiggle on the shaft, or somewhere else?

When I grab on blade and hold it still and then attempt to rotate either of
the other 2 blades they will rotate +or- ~1/16th of an inch. I've checked
this play every time it is out of the water for the last 5 years and it
hasn't changed. I typically disassemble, clean, reassemble, paint and then
grease. Sometimes I just sand it and paint then grease, skipping the
disassemble/reassemble part. Greasing it always "tightens" things up.
Little if any play afterwards. The wear I observe on the internals seems
consistent with the polishing you would expect where 2 surfaces come in
contact with one another.

I'm about to deliver a boat that had a max prop installed with the wrong key on
the shaft, which caused problems.

Perhaps the shaft is not tapered properly?
