My C+C 29 On Western Long Island Sound is for sale. I am advertising on *Sailing Texas* and *Windcheck*, as well as local bulletin boards. whatever you do don't answer any of the calls your going to get from those guys that call and say have buyers ready. The company is American Boat Listings Ablboats.com used boats scam Internet Although it is not technically a scam, they do nothing except take your money and post on all the free listing sites. They don't care if there is mistake in the listing, whether you want to change anything, lower the price, add some more detail...whatever... They will not answer your calls after they take your money and you'll never be able to revise or remove your listing. I got taken for $150. The one question I had was, ...will you list it on Yachworld? The answer was yes, among many other sites... When it never showed up there I wrote and asked and the one answer I got was we are not brokers and you need to be a broker to list on yacht world... When I said I was assured that it would be listed on yacht world by the sales guy that called me, I never heard anything from them again. Many, many attempts to contact them and get the listing changed to a new price, I never got another response, EVER... Oh, and I ended up finding a buyer through Craigslist locally, in the end. The boat was every bit as nice as I described and the first serious buyer that showed up, bought the boat because she just wanted a turn key and that is what she got. You'll get a lot of tire kickers and low ballers. My boat was on a trailer in my yard so I wasn't racking up storage fees and decided I could wait until someone showed up that was looking for a solid boat, ready for sailing and was willing to pay a fair price. It took me almost 2 years to sell her. My asking price was easily 1/2 what I had invested. I started listing while I was using her one season and went through the next season in the yard and sold the following spring for very close to my asking price. Good luck! /Points East/ magazine is similar to /Windcheck/, and is distributed free in many of the same locations around the LIS. It covers all of New England. Selling on your own is not a bad way to go if you're willing to deal with the calls, showings, etc. When we sold our 34+ we did it on our own but had a local broker handle the money and paperwork for a significantly lower fee (2% if I recall correctly). The boat sold for $750 less than asking price to a pair of friends looking for a Niagara 26 who travelled quite far and picked it over two in the Montreal area. They picked this boat because of the upgrades and the sails and the fact that it was documented online for easy reference. There was even a copy of a survey from six years previous to the sale available to view on the web site. I will also consider doing future sales of my boats on my own.
