My solution is a rotating pod on a platform. The photo is mark I. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/43wn90deuauc5dh/AACB0OMJeRle0KBX62sczHVra?dl=0 Mark II has a larger wooden platform. I don’t have enough room behind the pedstal guard for a platform, so it has to be in front. I like being able to see the chartplotter from either side while steering, therefore the rotating/tilting pod. It is supported by Sailrite clamps and a aluminum angle bracket. Mark III version will likely have stainless tuming for support and Sea-dog 90° clamps, but this version has worked fine for a year. That’s the other advantage to my system. When I’m not using the plotter, it easily unhooks and gets locked inside the cabin (and off the boat completely during the winter). I just used a simple rail clamp and some wire looms. Re: Stus-List Chartplotter mounting
I have a Raymarine ES 7 and used a Navpod pod on a stainless steel arm which allowed me to mount the MFD above the compass without needing a taller pedestal guard. One thing I wanted was to make sure my wiring and electrical connectors aren’t exposed to the elements, and a guard mounted enclosure achieved that. It wasn’t inexpensive, but it came with a pre-cut faceplate to the specific instrument I bought and I didn’t need to completely reconfigure my helm. All the wiring runs inside the stainless arm and goes into the pedestal guard and down through the cockpit floor using Edson’s new stainless guard feet. I purchased it at Defender’s warehouse sale at a substantial savings over retail. I was reluctant to go with a taller or angled pedestal guard because my traveler sits immediately in front of the pedestal. Having the mainsheet wrap around an electrical instrument or pedestal guard in a crash gybe can be somewhat problematic.. Re: Stus-List Chartplotter mounting
Mike, +1 for what Edd said. I used a RAM mount (you need to put together the configuration yourself, as none of the “kits” would probably work for you). It allows infinite adjustment and can be rotated backwards and forwards (for driving from in-front of the wheel). The total cost was under $100. I don’t have good pictures, but these should give you an idea: https://www.dropbox.com/s/s84952c47416x0f/IMAG0258.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/bh77705narpqyqx/IMAG0260.jpg?dl=0 Marek 1994 C270 ”Legato” Ottawa, ON From: CnC-List On Behalf Of Edd Schillay via CnC-List Sent: Tuesday, November 20, 2018 19:27 To: cnc-list@cnc-list.com Cc: Edd Schillay Subject: Re: Stus-List Chartplotter mounting Mike, If you get a pod, make sure your pedestal guard is tall enough to hold it and keep the chartplotter far enough from your compass so as not to affect its accuracy (your Raymarine manual will tell you how far away it needs to be.) Additionally, the downside to a pod is that you can only use the display from directly behind the wheel. Personally, even when motoring, I like to drive from the sides. As such, I mounted mine with a rail clamp so I can change the angle. It may not be as pretty as a pod install, but certainly more functional. All the best, Edd --- Edd M. Re: Stus-List Chartplotter mounting
Make your own. I used one of these: https://edsonmarine.com/3-stainless-clamp-on-accessory-mount/ Cut some StarBoard, routed the edges and "voila!". Here's pics: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B_sb5TfIENvsbEhPTjhvV0FWR0k https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B_sb5TfIENvsRjJHbmFuQ3dieGc Nice thing about using a clamp on mount is you can move it around if you don't like where you first put it. Also note the instrument "pod" I built for my Nexus display. StarBoard and a couple of pedestal clamps. Easy. Dennis C. I did the same as Brad. The King Starboard was much deeper than I needed so I cut it and re-routered the edges. Functional and cost effective.
