Hi Peter

On my LF 38 (1984) the Depth Sounder throughull is located under the fwd V
Berth, just Aft of the water tank, Port side.

The knotmeter throughull is right next to it.

Its very tricky reaching in there, unless you have super skinny arms, twice the
normal length.

Good luck

John

I just hauled my boat out and had the bottom painted. I asked the person
providing the service to make sure that the Transducer was clear of paint and
also if they could tell me the location. The painter could not locate the
transducer. For the life of me I have not been able to find out where the
transducer is located. It is a Signet brand depth sounder and it came that way
installed by the factory (I assume). Maybe its not a through the hull
transducer I don’t know.

If anyone has a similar set up or knows the location please let me email me.
The depth sounder works intermittently and I would like to find out why. I
have not followed the wiring (grey) because there are a number of grey wires
bundled together and tied with plastic ties. I may have to do this sooner or
later.

Thank you

Peter,

I used to have a Signet depth sounder on my 37+.  The transducer was located
just aft of the forward cabin bulkhead on the port side.  There was also a
speed sensor right next to it.  My guess is there is something on one side of
the forward part of the keel.

Do many other listers still use Signet Marine equipment?  I have all sorts of
stuff I’ve been meaning to put on Ebay.

This is not to answer your question, but there is no reason to keep
paint off of your depth transducer. It will not affect the performance
in any measurable way. The only possible concern is that the solvents in
some paints "might" attack the plastic lens. If you want to be sure
about avoiding that, simply paint the transducer with a water based
bottom paint. They even sell little bottles of it labled as "transducer
paint". Any water based bottom paint is fine, and I painted mine with
solvent based Micron Extra for 15 years with no apparent harm. I think
the transducer makers put that in their instructions as a defensive move
"just in case".

Agree with Bill. Guessing the reason they didn't see it on the outside is
because it's mounted in a well on the inside of the hull. Could be
anywhere with 12-18 inches of centerline; in a settee, dinette, v-berth or
quarter berth storage, even in the engine compartment. Look for a square
or round well attached to the inside of the hull with a cable coming out of
it.

If the PO was really sneaky, it could be under the V-berth step. :)

Peter — my depth and speed transducers are under the step up to the V-berth;
there’s a trapezoidal panel that lifts off. If you can see the transducer on
outside of the hull, you should be able to get an idea of where it is on the
inside.

My depth and speed thru-hulls (1976 C 42) are also located just forward of
the keel. In my case, they are slightly starboard of centerline (the port side

I believe that some systems combined the speed wheel with the transducer.
Maybe that's why you can't find it?
