Not directly related, but I've figured out that the light colored interior on
my 1994 C 37/40+ is lacquered, not varnishes.  Removing old lacquer is much
easier than varnish.  50/50 mix of lacquer thinner and denatured alcohol does
the trick.
Hope this helps

Happy New Year all.  Cheers from the balmy Straits of Mackinac.  My new-to-me
37+ has a bright interior, and my sanding hand has been twitching a bit,
thinking I could re-varnish the interior starting with companionway steps.
Then, I ran across a fairly new product, apparently, called Rubbed Effect Low
VOC Satin Varnish by Epifanes.  Blurb says it needs to be applied over at least
2 coats of regular-style bright varnish.  Product is water based, and the
pictures, of course, look just like I would hope.  Has anyone had experience
with this?
Forgive if this has been reviewed, but could not find anything!

I like Sikkens cetol light or natural. Did my teak and holly sole with that
about 10 years ago only one cost on bared lightly sanded wood still fine
with me and i dont remove my shoes to go below and we use the shower which
seems to overspray everywhere and so gives a good reason to wash the sole a
few times a year. It has very little shine but i like it that way

Polyurethane doesn’t seal as well though. Don’t ask how I ( and my new

I use polyurethane for all interior brightwork. It cures harder. The name brand
polyurethanes don’t have UV protection, but we are talking about cabin use
here. I refinished Anchovy’s companionway ladder with big box store poly two
seasons ago and I see no signs of wear.

Stus-List Stair Treads and companion way finishes

2019-01-06 Thread Rod Stright via CnC-List
Has anyone recently refinished companion way stair treads and teak? If so
what stood up best? Has anyone used the fairly New Petit Sea Gold finish?
It has good PR from Petit but I have seen a few reviews indicating it did
not stand up well in exposed locations. Best recommended finish for cherry
on interior bulkheads and trim?
