Ok after a very challenging delivery I'm stuck in Newport because I got in after dark I picked up a random mooring and they want big big money to stay. I can't find petar's number 284 and I really don't know what to do. Can anyone offer any advice or help. They want 30 per night out 700 for a month... What a nightmare... Some advice: Make it a point to get your boat sailing as soon as possible, so you can enjoy what she was designed for. So many project boats become eternal projects, the owner loses time, money or ambition and the boat lives on a trailer, neglected until it becomes junk. So make sailing your focus when planning your projects and don't get caught up in overhauling everything; clean her up, check the sails, get all the hardware cleaned and lubed, replace any frayed halyards, sheets, hoses. Prioritize projects into those that make the boat safe and seaworthy first, get your new required Coast Guard stuff like flares and life jackets, fix any rigging problems, service engine, service trailer wheel bearings, etc. Plan where to launch her and checkout marinas, ramps, and cruising destinations over the winter. But work to splash the boat as soon as the ice melts in the Spring. Will you be getting a slip? Keeping her on the trailer? It will change your life. The 32' boat appears to be turnkey ready to go, but w a very high asking price. It's probably worth every penny, but won't ever sell for that price. I bought our boat for half of her listed price. The PO got enough money to pay off his loan, but had a huge yard bill for storage. I have a lot of sweat and money invested into my boat after 12 years, but doubt I will ever get what I paid for it and the next owner will definitely get a better deal than I got. There are so many discounted boats on the market, it will be hard to get what she's worth. The hard reality is that storing a boat for 6 years at a good marina, and keeping the insurance, maintaining a cover, can cost as much as the final selling price. Hi Danny, find the office of whoever is looking after Petre's mooring field. I expect they have a diagram/map of the mooring field numbers that will narrow your search by quite a bit. Or get to the closest Yacht Club, a friendly local member is often your best resource for finding things. Oops, do you have a dinghy? Hi guys, what a weekend! I'm all set now. Caseys rented me a mooring for 1/2 what old port wanted. Not as good as free but, what can you do... The ride over was very exciting and it gave me a whole new level of respect for the Viking 33. The seas were big, very big at times, the wind had to be pushing 20 and Lolita just kept on blasting to windward, under full sail, with very little complaint. The rail was buried most of the time! I swear some of those rollers were 8 footers! The wind was really blowing today too. More than yesterday. Fortunately, I only had to motor from one mooring to another. The launch guy for old port was really great and helped me pick up the mooring on the other end. He even motored me around the harbour looking for petar's number but, it was no where to be found... Anyway, I'm good now and on a mooring I don't have to worry about anyone chasing me down for squatting.
