[cobirds] Turkey Vultures in Boulder County and bluebirds in park County
Friday afternoon, I spotted 2 Turkey Vultures circling over the southwest section of the Golden Ponds path in Longmont (Boulder County). Yesterday, I hiked with friends up to the quartz quarry in Pike National Forest, above the Tarryall Rive (Park County). The hike up produced Mountain and Black-capped Chickadees, Pygmy Nuthatches, and Stellar's Jay. But, when we got back to the parking lot, we were treated with one male Mountain Bluebird. Driving back to Hwy 24, we spotted several more bluebirds on the phone lines and flitting down into the pastures. [cobirds] Tree Swallow - Teller Farms, Boulder County (2/15)
Hi All, While birding at the Teller Farm pond at 12:15PM I noticed a Tree Swallow flying near the surface of the water to the back of the pond. The Tree Swallow was there the entire time I birded the area. This is the earliest I've seen one in the state. [cobirds] Fremont county --- Tundra Swans/Rusty Blackbirds, 2/15/15
COBirders, I did about an hour of birding this morning before heading to other commitments. Near Brush Hollow I had a flock of at least 47 PINYON JAYs. Then a quick look at Florence River Park to see if there might be any CINNAMON TEAL and there was a single male. Then just west of the park there were two TUNDRA SWANs flying low and to the east. Before heading home I checked the ponds along highway 115 between Florence and Penrose but I did not see them there. Then just a little further was along the road (county road 119) there were 2 males and 4 female RUSTY BLACKBIRDs. The males were singing as the six of them sat in a tree. -Mark Peterson Colorado Springs -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Colorado Birds group. [cobirds] Turkey Vulture over Litteton, Arapahoe Co
This morning an unexpected early *Turkey Vulture *tilted its way eastward over St. Mary Church along S.Prince Street in Littleton. This was a few hours before the snow began, and perhaps now it is thinking, What am I doing here in February! [cobirds] Black Phoebe at Florence River Park, young Golden Eagles above there, and Great Horned Owls in Colo Springs
While counting birds day before yesterday for the Great Backyard Bird Count in Florence River Park I spotted the Black Phoebe that I have seen and posted about at that location this winter. It put on a nice show, calling frequently as it foraged on a number of flying insects on that warm (almost 70 degrees) day. Above I spotted two young Golden Eagles flying near each other, apparently practicing the flying skills they will need as adults. I got photos of the phoebe and the eagles that I have uploaded to my Birds and Nature blog http://birdsandnature.blogspot.com/. Late report of a pair of Great Horned Owls I spotted roosting on the faux balcony of the La Quinta Inn near the World Arena in Colorado springs. The male was there alone one day then he was joined by the female for two days then they likely left to build a nest. The Double Tree pond is across the way with lots of waterfowl and one day I spotted a Cooper's Hawk flying by. Photos of the owls are also on my Birds and Nature blog http://birdsandnature.blogspot.com/.
