[cobirds] Bird Conservancy Banding Report - Barr Lake Station, 10/14/16

2016-10-14 Thread meredith . mcburney
This is shaping up to be the biggest last week of fall banding that I can
remember. Cloud cover kept things cool, allowing us to band a little later
today, and we got a couple of noon-time flocks of mostly Yellow-rumpeds.
Total of 64 new birds today:

Ruby-crowned Kinglet 7
Hermit Thrush 3
Orange-crowned Warbler 6
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Audubon's 26
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Myrtle 3
Song Sparrow 3
White-crowned Sparrow, Gambel's 2
Dark-eyed Junco, Slate-colored 1
Dark-eyed Junco, Oregon 2
Dark-eyed Junco, Pink-sided 7
American Goldfinch 4

Two more days! We will take the station down at the end of banding on
Sunday.

Re: [cobirds] Pomarine Jaegar

2016-10-14 Thread Greg Pasquariello
As I arrived today, I saw a flock of gulls in panicked flight. Sure
enough, the jaeger was chasing them. As I watched from the parking lot,
the jaeger flew right over the heads of the birders that were out on the
sand bar. What a look they must have gotten! By the time I got down
there, the bird was a mile away on the water, but it sure is a good looking
bird!

whole time loafing in the middle of the reservior (distant from either the
Jefferson or Douglas County sides) except for two short flights, both of which
we managed to miss.

[cobirds] Birding location requests from out of state

2016-10-14 Thread Leon Bright
COBirders,

About a week ago Arkansas Valley Audubon received a request from a Maine
birder for information similar to the one posted on COBirds yesterday. We
directed him to CFO's http://coloradocountybirding.org/, suggesting to him
that it has detailed answers to his questions. I believe the County Birding
website is a great resource that can be used to answer the great majority
such requests from out of state.
