[cobirds] Sabines Today

2018-09-27 Thread mvjohnski
John Stump and I birded Smith Reservoir today (Costilla County) and
re-found the juvenile Sabine's Gull. It was way across the lake on the NE
lake shore. Baird's and Semi-palmated Sandpipers were still on the west
side shoreline.

At San Luis Lake( Alamosa County), we did not re-find the Lesser
Black-backed Gull. We did find 5 Black-bellied Plovers, 1 Semi-palmated
Plover, 5 Sanderlings and about 20 Baird's Sandpipers.

[cobirds] Pectoral Sandpipers, Timnath Reservoir

2018-09-27 Thread marimammoser
This morning there were four Pectoral Sandpipers at Timnath Reservoir. They
were spread out in the wet areas and standing water on the north side (away
from the lake shore). There were also about 5-6 smaller peeps seen flying
with a group of Killdeer. The very small size suggests possibly Least
Sandpipers, but they didn't land so I couldn't get a definitive ID.

On the reservoir itself were the usual groups of white-checked geese, Am.
White pelicans, Western Grebes, a few gulls and ducks.

[cobirds] Prothonotary Warbler, Pectoral Sandpiper and other Boulder migrants

2018-09-27 Thread Peter Burke
The Pleasant View Marsh area remains a very active warbler spot with
hundreds of Yellow-rumped and good numbers of
Wilson's and Orange-crowned . And I was
"pleasantly" surprised to see that the Prothonotary Warbler
was still among them. Other birds in the marsh
included Red-eyed and Warbling Vireos, Ruby-crowned Kinglets and a
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher.

At Cottonwood Marsh, Walden Ponds, the number of Wilson's Snipe
appears to be dwindling. The Pectoral Sandpiper
continues and was joined by a Lesser Yellowlegs
and there are now two Greater Yellowlegs.

Good birding,
Peter
