[cobirds] Boulder County shorebirds

2020-08-02 Thread 'goldenplover' via Colorado Birds
At 3:30 this afternoon (8-2-20) my grandson Jack and I stopped by Little Gaynor
lake (after TedFloyd’s reports of shore bird habitat there) and saw 4 Avocets,
3 Wilson’s Phalaropes, 1 Semipalmated Sandpiper, 4 Baird’s Sandpipers and at
least 10 Killdeer. The birds moved progressively west where the light was poor
so may be other species there. Earlier in the day probably better time to check
it out. Good birding. Bill Fink. Longmont

[cobirds] Ebird postings

2020-06-25 Thread 'goldenplover' via Colorado Birds
At least on cobirds people including me would say where exactly they saw a
given species-for instance Rabbit Mountain is a rather large area so nice pics
of a Blue Grosbeak are great but where were these pics taken on Rabbit
Mountain? Some of us or maybe just me who are still working don’t have the time
to wander around this area aimlessly-I don’t mean to single out this example
but how great are all these ebird results for the average birder-agh citizen
science you say -so be it.. Bill Fink Longmont

[cobirds] Northeastern Co Sedgwick and Logan

2020-06-14 Thread 'goldenplover' via Colorado Birds
On 6-13-20 I birded parts of both counties noted above-best birds were a
Mississippi Kite just northeast of town of Sedgwick and a photogenic Upland
sandpiper on a fencepost between Nunn and Sedgwick. Also Bell’s vireo in western
section of Tamarack but no Cardinals at usual spots in eastern section-I wonder
if anyone has seen them there this year? Thanks. Bill Fink Longmont

[cobirds] Posts regarding gull identification

2020-02-02 Thread 'goldenplover' via Colorado Birds
I want to say that I hope cobirds doesn’t continue to become a forum for some
“expert” birders to make denigrating comments about other birder’s
identification capabilities. Comments like “Nick’s been wrong before” are
uncalled for in my opinion. I’ve been birding in Colorado since 1986 and I’ve
never seen such lack of civility and I for one hope it doesn’t continue!
Sincerely. Bill Fink Longmont

2019-05-05 Thread 'goldenplover' via Colorado Birds
I had 14 species of shorebirds at Lower Queens Reservoir today (thanks to Ric
Olsen for directions). Best we’re Semipalmated and Snowy Plovers and Western
Sandpiper-the latter among many Semipalmated and Baird’s Sandpipers. I couldn’t
find yesterday’s White-rumped Sandpiper and the Whimbrels present yesterday
apparently sent a stand-in Long-billed Curlew which is still a beautiful bird!
Good birding. Bill Fink
